It keeps reappearing and then TMG closes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it made no difference.

My great-great grandmother (dad's side) were, um, puzzling to say the least.

She lied about her father (she was illegitimate) on both of her marriages. She married twice, first in 1921, to my great-great-grandfather and again in 1930.

On both occasions she used her maiden name and is recorded as a spinster, even though she clearly wasn't in the second. I have found no evidence of divorce, and both of my great-great grandparents were alive and kicking at time of the 1939 register

	Anyway, my query is this:

Under the brides married name i record her maiden name in the suffix as -[insert maiden name here]. How can i record her previous married name as well?

I have been using TMG - USA for many years. Recently I have started researching my wife's family and found ancestors and cousins in England and Ireland. Therefor I want to set up a UK Style on the Master List and rename some (or all) of the 10 name labels. However, I am not familiar with the place names and have come across references to Borough, District, City, County, Civil Parish, Ecclesiastical Parish, Registration District, and others. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I hope someone can tell me what place name labels are used by TMG-UK users.

I have been using TMG since 2005. I now use Gold UK Edition v 8.08.0000

This Web Site has been a life-saver in the past (for instance sorting a problem with constant request for unlock key after installation on a Windows 10 Computer). But I am a total computer software amateur (trying to improve as I have now retired). I missed the opportunity to upgrade to Version 9. As I understand it, there is no longer A) support, and licences to upgrade.

Is there anyone out there who could briefly summarise: The differences between UK and other TMG versions. The Versions that remain useable on Windows 10. The way lock codes etc work with respect to use and licences ( for example I have versions V 6, V 7, and V8 hard and soft copies and various "unlock" codes obtained over the years since 2005, but I really do not understand if any of this is useful to me or anyone else), The best place to get support and/or advice (other than this site, noting there is pretty much nothing recent on the Version 8 "bulletin board" (is that the correct term ?)). And who are the kind generous people (with their time and energy) that keep this site operating. Will it continue ?

I received this message when trying to restore a project from a backup. All the backups prior to this were OK. All the backups after it have some corruption which produces error messages starting with #111 when I try to access the Master Place List. If I click through them the Master Place list appears; however 'sort' does not function and until I reload TMG other functions cease to operate: data set manager; master source list etc

The single backup which produces the above error message (BUG - There are problems with CDX files) causes the program to fall-over.

Unfortunately I do not use the Master Place list function very often and it was 6 months afterwards (and much data entry) that I first noticed the problem and searched back to find the origin. I had been in discussion with Wholly Genes about it but none of their suggested fixes work - and I now find out that they have ceased to exist!!!

I have already tried many things: reindexing; optimising; running in repair mode; validating but none seem to notice that there is a problem. I have used the program in 2 different versions (7.03 and 7.04) on two different Windows (Vista and 7). I have also run a working 'sample project' simultaneously with my present faulty project and they do not seem to interact with one another.

Although the error messages are the normal gibberish it appears to stem from an Invalid Column Index on the Master Place list.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hello Everyone,

I am writing this in desperation. I have a long-term genealogy project I've been working on for over a decade - but I don't do it all the time as I have an ongoing health issue. I've been using TMG's UK Gold edition since 2005. Last year I upgraded to v8 and was shortly thereafter contacted by WhollyGenes via email and upgraded to the newly released v9. I then had some technical issues and I communicated with a lady from the company to get it fixed - which we did by the end of October! Then in December my hard drive died and I lost EVERYTHING - including all my emails & all of my receipts. I did have a backup of my TMG data files, albeit a few months old, but nevertheless I have them. It has taken me this long to get my new hard drive installed and organize everything. So today (Feb 28th 2015) I tried to contact Wholly Genes and ask to have my activation/registration codes re-issued so I can continue with TMGv9 and my long-term project. Imagine my absolute horror when I found that the company has apparently folded and I am now left in 'limbo'. So I ask, if the company records ARE still available will someone from Wholly Genes please help me so that I may continue my project using a newly downloaded version of the program I purchased a few months ago. That's another thing - where do we get copies from now? I am a legitimate customer, and I have spent hundreds of dollars supporting this company and it's software for many years - I would hope that someone from the company will please provide some assistance. Can anyone help or do I just chalk my decade of hard work using and customising my project in TMG UK Gold version up to history and start over?? I sincerely hope that someone can provide some advice and assistance. Thanks, and Kind regards, MJ Purcell

Dear TMG community

I hope that you can help me.

First though, we would like to wish Bob and his family all the very best... we sincerely hope that things work through and thank you so much for helping us to realise great outcomes from our research. Family is important.

TMG has served so well for many years and while its presentation may not be all that "modern" the functionality of the program remains outstanding, clear and perhaps the most useable and practical product. No doubt its been a passion and we appreciate your efforts so much!

Technically though; recently we have experienced the roprotectionman error following a hard drive crash and restoration.

The Hard drive crashed during a recent visit to the UK. We were running V8.02 and uploaded V8.08 from the web to an alternative laptop while we were still traveling ... using the backup database that we had prior to flying.

Restoration and update entries have all gone well for the months following (Oct until now) until realising that some tag records are missing for individuals i.e. Accident & Funeral that had been added.

Furthermore to add using these tags raises the error.

I was concerned that perhaps the updated between 8.02 and 8.08 may have caused the issue?

Tried updating to v9 but this doesn't seem to fix it. (including V.9 repair routine)

Much appreciated for any advice so that we can continue to use TMG.

Really would prefer to not change.

Many thanks

Greg

Hi

I am a long term TMG user but am one of those who thought they would update when they had time to get back into their genealogy research. I was away while all the upgrade/finishing emails were coming through so did not get in to upgrade on time and now can't find a Version 9 anywhere. I started having some trouble with reports when I looked at my V7 again and so looked at what programs others were looking at. I downloaded the trial of Family Historian and imported my TMG project. When I did the straight TMG import - all people came over with their relationships intact but no dates, places, events, memos etc. Just names really. I sent a copy of the backup to Family Historian who were very helpful but eventually gave me the following message: "The developers have taken a look at your file and in 'debug' mode encounter an error where a Memo file is missing, they are also getting the same error if they try to import your Project into TMG 9. Which they think suggests a problem with the file you sent us or your database, as you are seeing the same problem on import on your system this would suggest it may be a problem with your database I am afraid."

Tonight I tried it as a GEDCOM file import. This time the Memos, dates & places came through - but no relationships or events with more than one person linked eg. no marriages. No-one is a descendant or ancestor!

I did get an error message when I saved as the Gedcom; 'Memo file c:\Users\hn\Documents\The Master Genealogistv7\Projects\MYHUNTERPROJECT_G.FPT is missing or is invalid. 4056 G_EVENT

(it gives multiple messages of the same except the event changes (there are 9 numbered events mentioned).

Any help very gratefully received as I'm a bit of a techno failure and don't want to have to re-enter my 9000 odd people & their life events! Thanks ahunterclan

Hi,

Despite having used TMG for about 20 years I didn't join this forum and wasn't subscribed to the newsletter. Hence, I have only discovered that TMG has been discontinued having come here for help with some issues I have stumbled across. I accept that is my own fault.

I have only ever upgraded to a new version when changing my PC and yes, my current PC is from 2008 and so I still have TMG 7 (UK version) running on Windows Vista. I appreciate that I should have kept the software up-to-date but of course it never seemed urgent ...

My problem arose when I tried to add a spouse and got an error message. So, I tried again. This resulted in two identical spouses (with consecutive reference numbers) being added, with two marriages. I tried to delete one of the spouses but kept getting errors saying the person was still tagged in relationships. I then went back to the original person and deleted all the marriage tags but still couldn't delete either of the two spouse records. Eventually I merged the two spouses and married the original person to the merged spouse. This looked OK on the person view screen but I still got an extra "unknown" spouse on reports. I then tried adding the couple's daughter and although that again looks OK in the person view my descendant report is now showing the child as both a child and it's own mother's second spouse! I also keep getting error meessages whenever I try to do anything with this project file, so I fear the data may be corrupt? Naturally, it is a massive project that I have been working on for many years so not easy to recreate!

I do have a recent backup of the project, but having never restored a backup before I am nervous about doing so in case it doesn't work. I cannot discover if there is a way to save the current data or if it will be overwritten by the backup??

I would be grateful for any advice as to how I should proceed.

It may help to know that this project only has people and relationships in it, there are no sources or exhibits (I do store my sources, meticulously, just not in TMG). There are. however, over 1200 people.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

HI,

After a number of years I have now decided to get back into TMG and continue with further investigations into my ancestry. I previously used TMG Ver 7 UK edition. I have all my projects backed up in both version 6 and version 7 so it is a simple matter of restoring the backups. I thought I had the complete TMGW program including the exe file on a removable hard drive. When I clicked on the exe file a message "cannot locate the Microsoft Virtual FoxPro support library" pops up. Having searched for various fixes it appears that the only real solution is to re-install TMG. How can I download a copy of TMG ver 7 from the website. I have the original serial number. I appreciate that we are now up to ver 9 but I'm reluctant to purchase the later version as sadly TMG will cease to be upgraded although I understand that support will continue for some time. If necessary I will purchase ver 9 if it is available in UK format and will stick with it until an alternative FHS software company can safely import my project files without errors.

Any help appreciated

If I click "Ignore" the four digit number cycles up six or so times and then repeats.

Certainly the file EDMONDSON_N.FPT is there is the correct directory.

I have tried the various maintenance options incuding validation and have tried restoring from my oldest backup (maybe six weeks old) but nothing helps.

I have had a review of fifty or so individuals at random and as far as I can see the data seems to be intact.

How do I get the GEDCOM data out and how do I correct this problem? Thanks.

TMG Gold UK edition - US dataset styles

My data sets are all set to UK. Is there a way of changing the default for Add Person? I don't know how this has happened unless it has been corrupted in one of the recent upgrades.

US vs UK Version

Are all the differences just in the configuration?
