Does anyone have access to a program to create DIC in waterfall fashion? This was discussed in this forum back in 2012. I have taken over this program from a relative. And would like to print DIC with the divorce tags showing? Any other way to do this? I have not succeeded in figuring this out yet.

I'm trying to generate a 13 Generation Ancestral Box Chart (Pedigree type) containing about 500 names and I'm getting the above error message. Once VCF completes the Box Chart it is about 20 ft long and 18 inches high, the first 12 Generations look good, but the boxes in the 13th Generation are empty. I reported a similar problem about 10 years ago and was told it was probably a memory problem. At this point I'm running Windows 10, have 16GB of RAM, with an i7 processor, so I'd assume I now have enough Memory. My TMG database contains about 95,000 names and runs very smoothly. When I use Second Site to generate my MilesFiles web page, several off the Descendant Box charts have over 20,000 names in them. Of course I realize they are not being generated by TMG.

Correctly taping together multiple pages from a VCF printout is virtually impossible since the cutting of the page edges must be perfect.

With the tremendous amount of options available in VCF there got to be an option hiding somewhere that creates an overlap printing at the page edges.

That way the cutting is not critical at all.

An additional great help is printing a small "x" alignment mark at the top and bottom edge. Cut one edge approximately through the two "x"s and align the page on top of the next page using the leftover x pieces. No need to worry about the internal boxes.

I have searched the help file without success.

The 'VCF palette' is handy for quick coloring little charts, but box and line colors can often be more conveniently set in the chart definition screen using the Color Lookup Table (CLUT) or with the VCF option to use the accent colors which are active in the project. The colors in the standard CLUT can, however, appear garish in accents and charts. It is easy to create and save in TMG up to 16 custom colors.

Once the custom colors are set up in either the VCF report options or Accent color lookup table in TMG, those colors are available for use in both the accents and in the settings in the chart definition options. You can lighten or darken them in the CLUT as you prefer while still retaining the base color. For example, I would use a darker shade for box lines, a lighter shade of the same color for fill or accent.

*Note that TMG and the VCF chart editor have separate color lookup tables. Custom colors added to the TMG color lookup table are saved for use in TMG for accents and in VCF chart options. When you are editing a chart in VCF after you have created it, any custom colors added to that program's color lookup table are not saved from one chart to the next. The 'VCF palette' was devised as a way to 'save' custom colors in the VCF chart editor.

I have assembled a group of custom colors in a VCF chart - see screenshot above - which you can download (save to your computer), unzip and open in VCF. You will want to print it out so you will know how the colors will look from your printer.

I've tried several charts. Only in the charts through VCF this symbol is missed. In the chart-creation directly into a *.jpg-file: no symbol. In text-based reports (without VCF), the symbol is correctly printed.

In the event-definition-screen I've tried to change the symbol to \\u007e, but there's space for only 4 characters.

Please can anyone give me a hint, how to solve my problem?

[using Visual Chartform 3.2]

I don't seem to be able to create a 2 Point Dashed or Dotted line, whether Connector or drawn.

The line is 2 Point Solid when chart is generated. If I go in to Properties for that line, I first have to enable, then disable, the Transparent check box in order to change from Solid to Dashed, as everything is grayed out. But, even though 2 Point is selected, it appears like a thinner 1 Point dashed line.

Even if I go back in and (after enable/disabling the Transparent check box to un-gray choices) change from 2 Point to 1 Point to 2 Point in order to select 2 Point + Dashed (or Dotted), it comes out as 2 Point Solid.

Bottom line: How do I get a 2 Point line that is not Solid? This happens whether it is a Connector line generated with the chart, or a line drawn with the toolbar button.

While experimenting today, I found what I believe to be is an undocumented feature.

There are 6 types of elastic lines that you can select to join between 2 conection ports on boxes (and also to intermediate connection ports). When the object at the end point of a line is moved then the joining segment adjusts accordingly.

There are 2 forms of line

orthogonal - segments always horizontal or vertical

oblique - segments not constrained

There are 3 annotations for the end points of the lines

nothing - just the line is shown

arrowhead at one end

arrowhead at both ends

This gives the 6 types.

I discovered today that for the oblique line types

at each intermediate location where you click the mouse becomes a way-point.

Thus you can easily contruct an elastic multi-segmented path bewtween 2 locations on a chart (e.g. linking married cosins on a chart).

The intermediate points :

- are saved correctly in a .VC2 file and are redrawn as expected on re-opening

- may be edited by selecting the line and then "Edit Vertices" icon on the tool bar. That is, this line acts like other multi-segmented lines or shapes for editing.

This will certainly make manual annotation of charts much easier to perform.

The orthogonal line types are do survive the save-then re-open test but in the prosess loosing some of their properties in that saving or redrawing process.
