  1. Backup problems

I started getting this error only after a hard disk failure. The hard disk was replaced and the technician managed to save virtually all my data, so all I had to do was reinstall the applications. I restored TMG data from a very recent backup and apparently had no problems except backing up to the hard drive. As far as I can tell, the default path is correct, and all exhibits display properly. In my case when I click "OK" on the first error message, the second one reads "Error occurred during backup. Output file write failure, possible disk full". But the hard drive is less than 50% full (it's a 268GB drive), I have full backups of about 300MB, and usually only keep 2 or 3 old backups on the hard drive, and others on removable media. Backups to removable media are no problem whatsoever.
  2. I guess my problem is similar... The "age" field is gone altogether. When I try the "customize other info box", instead of an "age" field there is a "selected" field which appears to do nothing. The age field just disappeared just after editing a person's details; when I switched to a different person, no "age" field, and it does not appear as an option for enabling/disabling in the "other info" box. 3. Should a backup take an HOUR?

Ummm... to tell the absolute truth... I'm not quite sure. Until about 5 minutes ago my backups took a space of about 128MB or so. When I backed up to the TMG default directory rather than my own designated directory... the backup became about 88MB; rather a significant difference. Dang. I'm just not sure.
  4. Hello folks: I have just upgraded from v6 to v7. In v6, my reference numbers were shown on the person details screen, not only in the "other info" box, but also in the box to the left of the "other info" box, where the person's name and ID number are displayed. In the person's details, the "Siblings" and "Children" boxes, it showed name, ID number and reference number. In v7 the reference number is shown only in the "other info" box, and in the reference column of the pick list. I found it very useful to have the reference number shown as it was in v6; it allowed me to instantly see if (for example) spouses were also cousins to each other, or if children had been misnumbered. Is there any way in v7 to have it display my reference numbers as ithey were in v6? I have been to the preferences many times to try to find what I'm missing, but I'm not having any luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. "Refresh Relationships" stalls

I must apologize. More or less. The latest info was indeed correct. Apparently, due to the number of people in my database I was just not leaving it long enough. It takes about 36 minutes to refresh the relationships on my computer. Thanks.
  6. Should a backup take an HOUR?

Wow! I just don't see this at all! My exhibits total about 66MB, I have a little over 174,000 people in my database, my backed-up file is about 128MB; my backup takes about 2 minutes, and I use "BACKUP ALL (project & customizations)" option. My backup is slightly faster when I use a flash drive, but not a lot faster than when backed up to the hard drive. Golly.
  7. "Assumed maximum lifespan"

Aaah! There ya go! Thank you very much. Found here TMG Utility
  8. "Assumed maximum lifespan"

OK, and where/how do I find this "TMG Utility" and what, therein, do I modify?
  9. Hi Folks: Just a suggestion here (and a couple of questions elsewhere)... I really like the idea that I can enter an "Assumed maximum lifespan" in the preferences, and anyone entered with a birth date farther in the past than the entered value is automatically entered as "deceased". Along those same lines, how about adding a function that anyone listed as "living" or with a marriage date of farther back than that same entered "Assumed maximum lifespan" value is also automatically entered as deceased? To extend that, how about anyone listed as a PARENT of someone whose lifespan is farther back than the "Assumed maximum lifespan" is also listed as "deceased"? Makes sense to me
  10. Suddenly, can't add some tags

Sorry! Never Mind! It turns out I had accidentally "filtered" for BMDP. When I "unfiltered", everygthing came back to normal. A novice error, I know. "RadioHead"
  11. Hi all: Just this very evening, I was trying to add a "misc" tag to someone in my database- something I have done literally thousands of times- and after typing in the "memo" data, when I hit the enter key... Nothing. No additional info was added. I have tried several things, including re-installing the entire program (after backing up the data, of course); starting with a different tag type, typing the required text in the "memo" field and saving it as a different type of tag (which didn't work), and even saving as a different type of tag. It hasn't worked. I am now halted. Can't enter new data until I find the fix. What am I doing wrong/not doing/missing/messing up? "RadioHead"
  12. I must concur (not with the "laughing" thingy). I have just over 151,000 people in my database, and see no reason to have a second project. The ONLY reason I can see for a second project is if you're a professional genealogist and/or doing research for somebody else. Then it might make sense to have a separate project. "RadioHead"
  13. "Refresh Relationships" stalls

Yes. No. Yes, and it took a very long time. Well, my "project"is my entire database, 146,561 people. I can't imagine at the moment why I would have more than one project... "RadioHead"
  14. Hi all: Thanks for all the help so far. I have another problem. Every single time I try to "refresh relationships", TMG locks up. I managed to do it once, some days ago, but now when I click on "apply", the Progress indicater is shown only as a frame with nothing inside it. When I bring up the Windows Task Manager, it always says TMG is using 50 to 51% of the CPU, but it's actually doing nothing. I'm using TMG 6.12.000 on an HP zd7140us laptop running Windows XP Home edition, and the laptop has a 3 GHz processor, and 2GB of RAM. Any ideas? I've already tried deselecting the automatic relation tag and reselecting it; tried to refresh with nothing else running but TMG, and even with the"Details" "Children" and "Siblings" windows closed, no difference. 15. Pallbearer Tag

Hi folks: I have a problem using the "pallbearer" tag. No matter how I do it, when a person is entered as a pallbearer, that person is then listed as deceased. I have tried entering them as "principal", and "pallbearer" and, out of desperation, as "interred". Nothing makes any difference. Did I miss something? "RadioHead"
