  1. Virginia, Thank you for your suggestions and for the links. The gallery of user layouts was very interesting and has inspired me to experiment this afternoon. By shifting and resizing windows and fields, I am very close now to a screen layout that matches the way I like to work and is a good compromise on how much I can see at a time (Btw, maybe the fact that so few people use the multi-line option for displaying tags just shows that the feature is not quite right yet?? Teresa sees what I'm getting at!!) Alison
  2. Jim, all I meant was that I don't find the "show item tips" a satisfactory solution to the problem of seeing as much of the tag detail as I would like. I know how to turn it off. Just hoped there was a chance of a little more flexibility in the future. Please? Alison
  3. Having just increased the size of the screen fonts to give my eyes a break, I now find that not enough info is displayed in the tag box. I tried adjusting the number of lines, but then it annoys me that some tags get far more space than they need. And the 'tool tips' type effect is driving me mad with all that extra clicking to change the focus person. Some may think I am hard to please, but I do know what I want! I want the number of lines displayed for each tag to be automatically flexible - a "fit to text" option. Of course, it would need to have a (user-defined?) maximum number of lines to account for those instances when I feel moved to write a whole essay in the memo field! How about it? Alison
  4. This is an update on the problem I encoutered with Spyware Detector 2 (I said it was version 5 before, but it is definitely 2). The SD people told me that they have solved the problem of false positives - however that is not my experience so in case this may help someone else, here is the essential info: SD continues to falsely identify the file ...\system32\dzactx.dll as a "critical threat". (I have XP Home SP2) This file is in fact a DynaZip ActiveX file from Inner Media Inc that is perfectly valid. If you quarantine the file it disables the backup process. Whilst everyone should make up their own mind about whether a file on their system is safe or not, just be aware that Spyware Detector may be still falsely identifying perfectly harmless and valid files as "spyware".
  5. When I created an Ahnentafel report as an HTML file I found the following bug: A sentence such as: The cause of death was given as "senile gangrene". was rendered as : The cause of death was given as "senile gangrene&quot. ie the semicolon was lost, presumably because it was followed by a full stop. Is this a known bug?
  6. Help! Just as I thought everything was sorted. . . I use Spyware Detector 2 and it has come up with a list of 22 spyware threats. When I quarantine the lot, guess what? TMG won't do a backup. Same message as yesterday. Then I try to close again but get the message "Cannot quit VisualFox Pro"! The only way to close is to use File, Exit, and say no to a backup. I have attached the log of the quarantined items in the hope that someone can identify the part(s) that belong to TMG. I have also sent the log to the Spyware Detector people. TIA, asilan Log.htm
  7. Jim, Both problems now fixed - thank you. I reinstalled (6.08) and that solved the backup problem. Have also now updated to 6.12 and all well. I realised that the source type deletion was not quite as I stated. Because I had imported my project from version 4, my source types were US rather than UK. I had added the Parish Record (UK) source type manually and then managed to delete that (sigh). Anyway I have now followed your excellent advice (in Getting the Most out of TMG, p107-8) and merged an empty data set with (custom) UK source types with my original data set. I now have all 82 UK source types, plus the Mills types I started with and all my custom sources (bar one, but no longer necessary). Perfecto!
  8. I am using the UK Gold Edition version 6.09.000 I have two problems: 1. I have inadvertantly deleted the standard output forms for Parish Records (uk). How can I restore these OR can I be sent the text so that I can set them up again? 2. When I try to backup my files I get this error message: OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered. 0 MENUOBJTMG.MBACKUPWIZARD Is there a way to fix this without a re-install? I am prepared to edit the registry if someone can give me full instructions!! TIA, asilan
