  1. Sounds

Tonight I deleted a project and got a sound via my speakers which was not the motherboard. I checked my sound settings and it is set to No Sounds. I listened to a few and it sounded like the Exclamation.wav or the Asterisk.wav. So TMG sounds must not all be controlled by sound and audio properties.
  2. Sounds

Hi Jim, I have no sounds enabled, no default beep in the list and still get the beep from time to time.
  3. Problems re-installing TMG 6 on new puter

Are you trying to enter a v5 registation as opposed to a v6? I think your next step is to contact Wholly Genes support to confirm that what you are entering is correct.
  4. Backup Location

    That's OK
  5. Backup Location

Hi Martha, You can change the backup path in File, Preferences, Current Project Options, Advanced. Bu unless you can set your CD up for direct access, such as in Roxio then, it is not possible to backup directly to a CD. The best way is to backup to a folder on your hard drive and then copy that backup file to the CD
  6. Sibling and Children Windows

Carolyn, It sounds like the 2 windows ovelap the main person screen and are going behind when that becomes active. If you close that and they then reappear then the solution would be to change your layout so no windows overlap. Here is my latest layout Have a look at the topic re Favourite layouts at http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...?showtopic=6384
  7. One way to run the 2 reports automatically one after the other would be to use the Book Manager. This give yoiu the ability to set a series of reports to be runin a set order. I use this mainly to set flags where a set of reports e.g cenus flags where new people have been added.
  8. My new favorite layout

The 2 things that seem to be consistent are that when it changes then it increases width by 1/4" and it always expands to the right regardless of where on the screen it is situated. Mine seems to be stable with some space for more buttons. I've just added a button, saved and opened and it extended. Saved again and it's changed again. I've now got it back to somethig I believe is stable.
  9. My new favorite layout

Theresa, Can you post a shot of the layout that doesn't change.
  10. Making custom toolbar behave

Theresa, Can you post a shot of the layout that doesn't change.
  11. My new favorite layout

I changed to the classic theme and my window behaved the same. Depends on any latency on the toolbar.
  12. Making custom toolbar behave

I can get it to behave and also misbehave and it depends on the layout of the toolbar. If there are blanks on the toolbar then it behaves. If I make the toolbar slightly narrower so there are no blanks then close it and reopen it then the left hand side remains where it is but the toolbar reverts back to the original width
  13. Multiple Links to a Single Exhibit

Hi Daniel, You would repeat the procedure "Insert new image > Select existing file" from John and Joe's records. You only have the one exhibit bu several links to it..
  14. No problem. you might want to pick up TMGUtility from John's site whilst you're there as well. It's a great program with a whole host of invaluable tools for "tinkering" with your data or digging you out of that hole you've successfully dug yourself into. Don't leave home without it.
  15. Hi vince, The program you require is john Cardinal's On this Day which can produce a calendar and is free. Available from http://www.johncardinal.com/otd/
  16. John Cardinal's TMGUtility will do this for you. Use the Change Citation option and set the from and to citation to the same and you can replace the text with the new text with the Volume. You can obtain it from http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/ Don't leave home without it!
  17. I have a person, James Ferguson Herdman, whose Birth is recorded as before 30 June 1891. When I enter a marriage with a date of before 30 September 1913 I get the message The age (0) of James Ferguson Herdman (1265) does not meet the expected minimum age for a person in the Groom role for this tag. Proceed anyway. Is this normal behaviour? Using v6.10. I Reindexed, Optimised and VFI but the same. also closed and reopened the programme.
  18. Age of zero with 2 before dates

Les, Thanks. Just the job of changing them all. Looks like a two way process using TMG Utility.
  19. Age of zero with 2 before dates

Hi Les, I began with the GRO Ref tag to record the details but have considered using the custom Reg tags as possibilities. As you say, it doesn't solve the problem but it may make the tags fit in much better in the overall scheme of things. I presume from your comment that the tags are all in different groups rather than all in the Other group?
  20. My new favorite layout

As a result of this thread I've adapted mine a lot. Including a larger custom toolbar (a la theresa). I just need some new button icons for some of the items.
  21. Age of zero with 2 before dates

It's often the disgustingly obvious you miss but not in this case. And the birth is marked as primary. So neither of those. I do notice that on the Marriage and Death tags, both of which are primary and both of which are before dates, that the age column doesn't calculate an approximate age. Screen shot attached
  22. Reports

It relates to the amount of pixels on your screen. 800x 600 is rather low for modern monitors. Some parts of TMG don't "fit" if you have a low resolution. Try changing you screen settings to 1024x 768
  23. TMG locks on startup

Hi, The program is trying to connect to the internet to retrieve messages from WG, a feature added in a recent update. It hangs because it can't connect. 2 reasons spring to mind 1) you are not connected to the Internet. (Solution Connect) 2) You have a firewall which is stopping TMG from connecting. (Solution, check firewall settings) Once past the problem you can change the settings in Tools, Preferences, Program Options, Startup and Exit and change the Check for messages.
  24. Question for Terry Reigel

Thanks Terry, Found that in the myriad of options. My census sentences are different (to an extent) so are not completely repetitive.
  25. Question for Terry Reigel

Terry, I don't see the tag appearing twice in the Journal report. Where?
