Whilst utilising the Memo field and also the witness memo fields, i only ever have one Principal which is Head of Household (UK Census records) and a wife would be one of the witnesses with that role. Split memos then accomplish the sentence structure required.

This may be happening because your siblings and childrens windows are overlapping the Details window so when you select a new person they disappear behind the details window. Try resizing all windows so they don't overlap. They, as Theresa says, save the layout. See my layout attached.

Dirk, First you would need to setup the data only backup as one of the backup options. File, Backup Click the radio button Save as new configuration and put a name in the box. Click Next gives the path and naming pattern (I use the date/time method). Click Next Tick Project data files. you could include Accents and filters as well if required. Click Next and select compression (usually Normal) Click Next then Finish and the first Data only backup will be done. Second you need to create the button Click View, Toolbars and custom and the custom toolbar will appear. Click View, Toolbars, Customise. In the right pane find Run a backup of a specific name under Special Functions. Click Add to move to the left hand pane. In the bottom box select the data only backup name. you can also selct whether you have text or a picture. Click OK to close the customise You will want to save your layout with this so the toolbar appears each time you open TMG. There are many other functions you can add to a custom toolbar. Some people have created giant ones so they don't go through the menus. So at any point in data entry a simple click of a button produces a backup. Hi Dirk, The data is saved as soon as it is input so if you were to close without a backup then you would still have all your changes. You can backup at anytime by using the option in File, Backup where you can set up different types of backups. One good tip is to create a data oly backup and then add it as a button to a Custom toolbar so at any stage you can simply click the button and instantly backup all data.

I do the same as you where the Head of the Household has the tag with the occupants as witnesses. I don't go as far as Terry including all the relationships in that tag but have structured the Head of Household sentence to include the other occupants. e.g. [P] was listed as the head of the household in the 1891 census <[L]>< with [WO]>.<[M0]> I use roles for each of the witnesses and split Memos to include all the info which I see as pertinent to the tag. e.g. [W] was listed as the daughter of [R:Head Of Household] in the 1891 census <[L]>. <[W] was recorded as aged [WM2]>< born in [WM4]><[WM1],><and with an occupation of [WM3]><[M0]> I will change the Head of household sentence eventually to be the same style as the other roles but at the moment have a mixture of ways the information was input and I need to clean up and change. I haven't been using the Split Memo long but it gives me what I want and does away with an additional Occupation tag.

And you couldn't restore a v6 backup to v5. I am assuming you have v5 since you posted to the v5 section.

Phil, 6.09 has a new feature called Message Manager which is trying to connect to the Internet to download messages. It's sticking at the Query point because it can't access the Internet. Check your firewall settings are not blocking TMG and that you are connected.

I see the citation as giving the ability to locate the entry at a later date. So all I see as relevant is the reference and the place. From that someone else would be able to find it. I have a different source for each census. So I would choose a source of 1891 census with citation detail RG12/4900/23/5, Gateshead Co. Durham.

Yes but if you change to EnglishUS and see what the Label is on the tag you may find it to be Note rather than Newspaper.

Shaun, If you open the tag in the Master Tag type List, look at the language assigned to the tag. Then check EnglishUS or English2. I would suspect that on one of those the tag is Note rather than Newspaper.

June, As Terry and others say your sentence needs sorting to get the output you require. I uses Roles with Principal 1 as Head of Household and all others as witnesses. My Head of Houshold sentence is [P] was listed as the head of the household in the 1891 census <[L]>< with [WO]>.<[M0]> This gives me Jeff Piper was listed as the Head of the household in the 1891 census at 3 Co-operative Street Stanley Co. Durham with Barbara Streisand and George W Bush. The <[MO]> is to prevent what is in the Memo from printing for this role as I am in a transition with 2 structures. I use split memos for each person so married||26||miner||Stanley Co. Durham The Witnes sentence is [W] was listed as the butler in the household of [R:Head Of Household] in the 1891 census <[L]>. <[W] was recorded as aged [WM2]>< born in [WM4]><[WM1],><and with an occupation of [WM3]><[M0]> This gives George Bush was listed as the butler in the household of Jeff Piper in the 1891 census at3 Co-operative Street Stanley Co. Durham. George Bush was recorded as aged 26 born in Stanley Co. Durham, married,and with an occupation of butler. I put a transcription of the census entry in the Citation Memo.

Currently using 6.08. I went to edit a tag and when I tried to save I got the same problem where it would open the edit place style window and try to create a new style. I tried creating a new tag with the style and got the same effect. When i looked at the Style Field 10 was shown as missing rather than a field name. I added the missing field name and all apears to be OK.

Bill, I think this is a wish list for what products you would like and then you email a link to friends/family to let them see what they can buy you.

There are 2 schools of thought. Lumpers and Splitters. Lumpers will have a small number of sources. E.G a source for each of the census Returns 1841, 1851 etc. some may lump together to as large a group as possible but others may lump in smaller groups. e.g. 1841 census Essex, 1841 census Durham, 1841 census Scotland. The same will go for other records. Splitters will have an individual source for each location of information. so a census will be split right down to the individual census Record E.g. 1841 census 4 High Street, Chelmsford Essex HO107/1234/56/78. Which you are is a matter of personal preference. Do you want lots of sources or not? You sound like you would be a lumper from your comment. My preference is a lumper. So I have a source for each census, one for birth certificates, marriage certificates etc.

This is also available but would be recorded as an irregular date. You would then use a sort date to place in the correct sequence of events.

John Cardinal's TMGUtility has a feature to change one place style to another. So all places using US Style can be changed to UK Style. If you have some places that should be US style it may tne be easier to change these few back.

I've got the 1's on mine as well. One project has 2 place styles and both have a 1 next to them. On another project I added a place style and edited some tags but was never presented with an edit place style window if the tag had a different style. I added a second data set and disabled the first and all the styles then had 2 in front of them so it is associated with data sets

As Theresa says you could produce reports in html and even use book manager to run a series of reports. To turn those into a website would then need some work. I can't recommend any free programs but do recommend Second Site. Yes it is one you pay for but the type of sites it can produce and its versatility make it more than worth what you pay.
