The problem arises because you have more than one person with the role of son. There are 2 ways to correct this. One is to create new roles Son1, Son2, etc and only assigne one person to each role. The other way is to edit the sentence to " [W] was listed as a son of [R:Head of Household] in the 1901 Census <[L]>, <[M2].>"

Glad it worked David. At least you got the better alternative for Second Site now rather than when you had 200 OLE ojects inserted.

David, Acrobat Reader doesn't appear. You get a list of files to select from.

David, You need to insert the exhibit as an OLE object. When you click on Insert New Ole the Ole Object will open. The click on Edit and Insert Object and browse to the PDF file.

When I add a person, I will enter a place of Birth in the appropriate boxes. e.g. Town Stanley County Co. Durham Depending on the place I will type the Town(L4) in and then use F3 for the County(L5). Once I save the person is created and on the Person View is a tag for Birth. The Name/Place field will only show Co. Durham, the section input using F3. If I open the Tag then the only field filled will be the Town, the field which was typed. If I then type the County or use F3 then the Name/Place field on the Person View is correct. Regardless of which box I use F3 on the town will show but the county won't.

I think I've solved this. L4 in US style is called County but in my UK style L5 is called County and I think it is this which is confusing the Add Person. I hvae renamed L5 to CountyUK and so far have not had the problem reoccur

My pc at home has the link at the bottom of the pages to speak to a technician but if I view the pages at work the link is not there. Any suggestions as to why not or has anyone else noticed this.

You're probably right. Work is not as up to date. I went to view something with Media Player and had to update. Went to v7. As you say as well may be ActiveX or java.

Curious. I've just gone to the main page and clicked File, Send, Page as email. It pasted the page in an email but the chat to a technician icon was missing.

No Terry, I see it on all pages at home and on none at work. The difference at work is that my machine is part of a large network. sometimes pages don't refresh immediately but I can force the server to refresh using CTRL F5. The topics are refreshed and show up new postings but the chat with a technician icon is not there at all.

If both data sets are enabled then you will see them both in the project at the same time. If you look at a persons ID number it will be in the form 1:123 or 2:678 showing which dataset that person is in. To only see one data set you can disable the other and it will not show in the project but will still be there. You could also filter on DatasetID to save keep disabling the dataset and then enabling again

In File, Preferences, Current Project Options, Other who have you got set as the focus person? It is that person for whom the relationship is calculated. also try turning the Automatic Relationship tag off and back on again to refresh.

Yes I had occupation as a separate tag but wanted to create a better sentence from the census itself. So at the moment already input census is under the old style XXX apeared in the household of YYY in the 1861 census. and On 7th april 1861 XXX was employed as a butler. Newly input is in the new style as previously stated which is, in the long run, more flexible for amending/tweaking. I do have some cleaning up to convert old style to new.

Marina, I use the standard tags (although I have amended the sentences). I would record the address 33 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea London, Middlesex for example. George Luke clark would be Principal 1 whom I would make Head of Household. All the other occupanys i would record as witnesses with the relevant Role, Wife, Son, Daughter etc. The source would be 1861 census with citation details of RG9/26/7/11 and the place, Chelsea London. That is sufficient to locate the record again. The Citation Memo is a transcription off the household. On each person in the Memo field I record 4 things Marriage status, age, Occupation and place of birth viz married||43||butler||Wallington Surrey. these are then used in my sentence structure e.g [W] was listed as the butler in the household of [R:Head Of Household] in the 1861 census <[L]>. <[W] was recorded as aged [WM2]>< born in [WM4]><[WM1],><and with an occupation of [WM3]><[M0]> That's my way. Until I change it

David, You could use John's TMGUtility and export the EnglishUS sentences out and then import them back into EnglishUK. This would overwrite any EnglishUK sentences you have created but ensure that you have sentences in EnglishUK for all your tags.

I have created a focus group by selecting my self then adding spouses, ancestors and descendants to 250 generations. when all are added I select all and then repeat until the number in the group is constant. I do not include name variations. The number in the focus group is currently 1564. I then exported it and overwrote an existing group. I am then told that group has 1565 members. If I import it in then I only have 1564 names in the focus group. any suggestions as to why the number of members differs?

I always put in USA where relevant. But then the majority of my research is in England.

My misunderstanding as the file name mentioned in the previous post (TMGJIMBEV__.PJC) appeared quite normal. I assumed you meant that that sort of file name was not the norm.

Vera, I am confused by this statement you made because when I create any project in TMG the file name always has 2 underlines added automatically by the program at the end. e.g my main project was called piper by me but the file name is piper__.pjc BTW I have never, as far as I can recall suffered from this problem.

Have you tried running the descendant report for each of gg grandfather Grimes children? i.e. if 4 children then 4 reports. If one of those won't run then it may narrow down the area to look at.

Sorry, Yes Audit Report. Audit Trail is a report in the accounts package I support for a living.

I'm no expert on charts by any means but it seems to be getting to that 6th generation and then getting into a loop. So it may be that there is some relationship at that level that it can't cope with. You've assigned the wrong person as a son/daughter which takes you back around the chart again. The audit trail report may give a clue.

Is there an easy way to amend all the roles for a particular tag or tags? I want to start using the Witness Memo for census records and need to amend each role sentence to accomodate this.

The question started off really as a query for a mass way to edit role sentences. Following various replies and trial and error (sorry experimentation) I realise that it is one by one with lots of Copy and Paste. The mass editing is to produce sentences for each witness with details from the census entry. This means, for me, a different way of recording the individual people in the household and the changes in sentence are to pick up that data recorded for each person. I have settled on using split WM for the relevant parts. This will then give me flexibility to amend the sentence structure at a later date if necessary.
