Les, My sentences originally had [W]. The daughter sentence for the 1891 census (as yet unchanged) is [W] was listed as the daughter of [R:Head Of Household] in the 1891 census <[L]>. <[M2].> When I add her as a witness then I use the role of daughter but if there are more witnesses with that role then the output can be strange. Especially when using SS. The sentence can read Jane and Ann was listed as the daughter..... or They was listed......... Using [W] in the sentence structure gets round the stange English or double names that can occur. I've had no problem with that so far, especially on my SS site. Ultimately everyone will have their own role Daughter1, 2 etc. so the sentences can go back to [R:Daughter1]. The trouble with TMG is that it's just too darn versatile

Les, I understand now what Terry originally said So as you say for old records then the first part would print as normal and the second would not as the WM is blank. Then change old, when and as. I may change the first part of the sentence since there are witnesses with the same role so output is a but peculiar. Just a matter of changing [R:Whatever] to [W]. Thanks to all for your input to help think through this change. Now just to change the sentences for the 1891 cenus and input the 60/70 families downloaded off ancestry.

Trouble is the way I originally recorded the census entry for the family. Head of household as P1 with a transcription of the entry in the Memo field and each person in the family as a witness with the appropriate role but nothing in the WM field. So all the information is there but not in the right place.

That's what I've been doing. I looked at John Cardinal's TMGUtility and export and import sentences to see if there was an easy way to edit/add externally but that doesn't work in the way I want. The hard work comes in amending the events already input. Know what i'm doing over Christmas.

Thanks for that. I don't use footnotes at all at the moment but someday will do so will bear it in mind.

I am editing and creating new roles for census records so I can have Son1, Son2 etc. I rename Son to Son1 and make some changes to the sentence. OK so far. I then create a new role of Son2. This is at the bottom of the list so I move it to below Son1. I then go to another role e.g Son in law which is the next after Son2. If I edit Son in law's name then Son2 will change. If I edit any role above Son2 then the correct one changes. It appears that what is changing is the role which occupied that position in the list prior to the move of the role from lower down the list. If I move 2 up the list then what is changed is one 2 above the one I want to change. The sentence stays the same. If I exit editing back to the main tag list and then go back to tag edit then the role which had been wrongly renamed is at the top of the list with the correct name. at least at the end all is OK but it's disconcerting when the wrong tag is renamed.

Hi Theresa, Thanks. Yes everything is fine if you move, close and then open again to edit an existing role. It's fine even if you don't but what you see on the screen until you do close and go back in is scary. and then it's at the top of the list so needs moving again.

Alan, As a result of your post I've decided to change my sentences (Big Job as it also involves changing how I record the information). The sentence for the 1851 is now [RP:Head of Household] was enumerated as the head of the household in the 1851 census <[L]>< with [WO]>.<[PF] was recorded as [M1],><aged [M2]>< born in [M4]>< and an occupation of [M3]>[:CR:] M1, M2, M3, M4 are marriage status, age, occupation, place of birth The sentence for the roles is similar [R:Daughter1] was enumerated as the daughter of [R:Head of Household] in the 1851 census <[L]>. <[RF:Daughter] was recorded as [WM1],><aged [WM2]>< born in [WM4]><and an occupation of [WM3]>[:CR:] This makes use of the witness memo and WM1-4 are equivalent to M1-4. I will also put a transcription of the census entry in the citation memo field. Once I have the details recorded in a structured format then I can play with the sentence structure to produce something readable. I will also dispense with separate Occupation tags created from the census entry.

An example of a sentence was [R:Daughter1] was enumerated as the daughter of [R:Head of Household] in the 1851 census <[L]> <[M2] It will become [R:Daughter1] was enumerated as the daughter of [R:Head of Household] in the 1851 census <[L]>. <[RF:Daughter] was recorded as [WM1],><aged [WM2]>< born in [WM4]><and an occupation of [WM3]>[:CR:] So each sentence will have the same addition apart from the role. I was looking at something like a possible export, mass change and import rather than edit the tag and then the sentence for each role. I am also creating new roles e.g Son1, Son2, Son3 etc. and would like to set their sentence fairly pain free. I do't use locally customised sentences at all.

I use sentences very similar to Les. In the memo field I enter a transcription of the census for the household. I have considered using the Witness Memo for elements of the entry such as occupation, age, place of birth but have not at the moment as I am daunted by the task of going back to change all my census entries. I'm doing mass census entry at the moment so now might be a good time to consider it further to cut down on what I would have to change.

If you can live with the button popping up prompting you for a married name then untick the box "don't ask me again" and you will always be prompted for a married name. The Prompt for Married name is in File, Preferences and Prompts. With a tick there you will always get the prompt.

6.07 is the latest build so you are up to date at the moment. Where are you looking for Check for an update on the menus? It is via the Help option on the menu. When you say the program died what did it do? Have you tried Window, Centre current window in case it's hiding behind something else.

I use the Simple Picklist. I have merged some people but a while ago and not this family.

I don't expect a solution so this is information only really. I'm inputting census records and went to one family to record the 1901 census entry for them. I realised for their births that there was a citation of the 1881 census but looking at the family that event did not exist. However there was an occupation tag for 3 Apr 1881 (census night) and these are entered as part of the whole census entry. So the census tag did exist. Checked my website and, sure enough, for this family the entry was there when my site was updated on 30th November. I restored a backup from 30th November and the census event is there. I haven't been into this family for some time. I restored a backup from 4th December and it has gone Luckily I could re-enter it easily. So where did it go? And are there any others?

As it was a family I was using the siblings window to switch. PE is always on but very rarely filtered Simple Picklist

Ben, I can reproduce most of this. I've change the census flags on several people like you. On one person when i change the flag it then gives a blank person with no census flags or any custom flags. Use the Last person button and i go to the person before. Chose that person again and the flag has not been set. Try and set it and i get a repeat of a blank person Validate says No errors found. however it then opened the first person in the list and gave an error Function argument, type or count is invalid. 43FRMEXPLORER.CNTPVIEW.CNTREE.MUPDATE Retry and the error disappeared and showed my first person, Ada No surname. Using the last person viewed button went back to the person I was trying to change the flag on Laura E King. changed the flag and Ada pops up again with the flag changed. Back to Laura and no flag change. Now I notice Ada is occupying the place in the PE where Laura would have been. VFI and no problems found and Laura is back in her rightful place. Unset Ada's flag OK and set Laura's flag OK. Methinks something is not working right.

I reset the addperson template. I deleted all the Repeat files. I created a new Place Style and changed all the places over. It worked for a while but seems to be hiccuping again. Same behaviour. The PV will show the entry for L5 but the Tag entry screen shows L4 populated. Entering something in L5 then shows it correct on the PV. I've validated and one potential problem found and repaired. Any other suggestions?

The product I give technical support to (accountancy software) has a wish list with 2 ways to add an item. Users have a link on the website to Add a Wish or when someone gets technical support then the technician can add it. Earlier this year when the new reasle was being considered and what features to add I, along with others, attended a session and looked at the wish list. It was a half inch thick A4 print and that was the adapted version where the duplicated wishes were put together. Impossible really to go through completely. We skimmed and chose what we thought were the better ones, based on our support of the system. Other groups did the same to come up altogether with 20 wishes. Having said that, 40% of the new features the year before were customer requests. Some of the requests will never be implemented in that product as they are features of the larger product we have and including them would have an impact on sales of that product. The new version launched in September with some of those features in it. Just wish it was error free (sigh).

Yes as Theresa says (thanks Theresa) you export the US sentences to a text file using TMG Utility. You could then edit of you wish and then import back into English UK If you find in TMG Utility that you don't have an option for EnglishUK then you can add it to the tmgutil.ini file in the Language Choices section e.g. Language3=EnglishUK

Yes. I am sure you can use John Cardinal's TMGUtility to export your US sentences out and then import them in to English UK. At work at the moment so don't have it in front of me so will double check this evening.

On the top of the box is a language box. If you change to another language e.g. EnglishUS or EnglishUK do the sentences appear?

In My Profile you have the small map on the right hand side entitled My Location. This is a small section of the whole map showing your location. If you click on another position then the marker will move to that position. Once you have it where you want click on Save Marker Position.

Tony, In "My Profile" you can manipulate the pin and move it to where you are.

There is no way to do a global change. Each would have to be done separately.
