  1. Backup failure

I had a similar thing when I upgraded to 6.04 that the backup path changed completely. Mine went to LoadMode\ / which came up as invalid.
  2. Add Person Blank Places

I deleted the Repeat files. I have reset the template and then customised again. I am no longer getting a new style created. I am still seeing the same behaviour. I entered one today of Town =Galashiels County=Selkirk country =Scotland It displayed on the tag on PV as Selkirk Scotland but when you opened the tag it showed Galashiels Scotland with the county field empty. If I typed something in that field then all 3 fields showed on the PV. If i then deleted it then it reverted back to Selkirk Scotland even though Selkirk should no longer exist as another value had been placed in the field. VFI showed no problems. Checked entries in the MPL and optimised and it has now corrected. I may create a new Place style. change all the UK style to that and see what happens.
  3. Sort tags

You've done nothing wrong. The three tags are sorted correctly as per the sort dates. I think what you are seeing as wrong are the ages and in particular the Education age. The age is calculated from the date not the sort date so a date of between 1970 and 1990 would give a mid point of 1980 so the approximate age would be ~16. If you changed the sort date on the Education tag to anything after 1972 then they would sort Birth /age 0 Christening /age ~8 Education /age ~16
  4. Add Person Blank Places

Is there a way of resetting the Add Person Template without going to add a new person?
  5. Add Person Blank Places

Thanks Jim, After updating to 6.07 I did have problems with the Add Person where it would create a new Place Style rather than using the UK style and I had to change that by reselecting the UK Style. Perhaps it's linked. That had happened earlier as well. I'll try resetting and also deleting the Repeat files as there are some tipping orrors in there.
  6. Partial Dates

some time ago there was a problem with partial dates where underscores were being included e.g. c __ ___ 1850 I thought this was being resolved. If it was then I'm getting it again in v6.07
  7. Partial Dates

I was looking on the Person View and the Tag entry screens. They don't appear in the Individual Narrative Report but do in the Individual Detail which is columnar. I was thinking that they should not be appearing on the screens but after Paul's and your replies realise it was a misinterpretation of what the problem was.
  8. Memo splitting

Their usage is to help you create sentences to output in reports. As such they can help you create quite a complex sentence structure. The problem lies in remembering what goes in which part of the split sentence easily. After you've created one but not used for some time it is a problem. Some people create a Word document to have alongside the computer with all the split memos for each tag. Others create a role within the tag and the sentence is the split memos for the tag.
  9. Memo splitting

My | is bottom left on the keyboard and is appears on the key as described.
  10. Need help creating a report

This imaginary friend can be used in several ways. All the people on a census. The owners of a building. The members of a church/organisation. The holder of a particular office or title. Limited only by your imagination.
  11. Thanks Terry. I've used F3 and CTRL +F3 but never F2. Must remember that next time i've got a lot of same address inputting.
  12. Need help creating a report

You could create St George Church as a Place Person and add to each baptism tag as a witness. Then all that person St George church would have would be witness tags. Run off an Individual Narrative A sentence something like [P1] was baptised <[D]> <at [W]> <[M]>[:CR:] wil give you what you want. You could even create a role of building if you wished.
  13. Arman, 2) What format do you want to save the focus group as? 3) Not complicated at all. Flags are used in all sorts of contexts to decide who to include. Create a filter flag. Create a LOP report to set it. Create a LOP report to reset to default so you can clear it. With all saved its a matter of a few clicks. You could add the 2 reports to run from buttons on a customised toolbar. I'm not the best in the world with reports and filters. It took me 6 minutes to create the flag and reports and the filter on the PE. Then takes about a minute to run. That's a project with 1600 people about 2000 names
  14. Arman, 1) No comment. As you say terminology. 2) Once you have created the focus group you can export via File, Export as a GEDCOM or ASCII or several other formats. You can use secondary output on reports such as List of People to create a new Project or generate to a file in a variety of formats. 3) You could use the Focus Group to set a Flag on each person in the group and then filter on the Project Explorer by that flag thus getting your focus group as a filter.
  15. If I remember rightly, when you install TMG you are asked if you want it to be accessible to all users. The entry for the program in Add/Remove Programs is TMG (for all Users) You could try a reinstall over the top and you may get the option to select all users. You could also try changing the access rights to the TMG folder which may then allow you access. You could also download the update direct from http://www.whollygenes.com/upgrade.htm and save to the TMG folder.
  16. Relation tag

Hi Mark, No its not something you can filter on as far as I can see.
  17. Windows Error Message

I can't help much but a search for the error message gave the answer A mathematical operation resulted in a number that was too large to be stored in the field or variable in which it was placed. from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default..../html/err39.asp So at a guess, something you are trying to import doesn't fit into TMG. What that might be could be anything. One of the gurus micht be able to find out.
  18. Citing the National Burial Index...

I don't use repositories so my view is as follows and will differ to someone elses. The source is the item which provided the information. The repository is where it is held. E.g a book of local history is the source. The local library is the repository. If you have the NBI in your home then that could be the repository but it may also be available at the Local Family History Centre or the house of someone else who has purchased it so they are both relevant repositories So I would use NBI published by FFHS without a repository. If it were a rare book then I would include its location in the source probably
  19. 6.04 won't backup

Are you sure you're using the v6 registration number, not the v5. And the same name and email address? You can email support@whollygenes.com and request they be sent out again.
  20. 6.04 won't backup

Since the same is happening in your projrct and the sample data then it would suggest something wrong with the program installation, especially since you don't get the wizard at all. Try uninstalling the program and reinstalling. You could do a full install by downloading 6.04 from the WG website as the full program and installing rather than just upgrading to 6.04
  21. Report Problem

You are getting this because of the Death Tag sentence which, in mine, is [P] died <[D]> <[L]> <[A]> The three fields for Date, Location and Age have conditional brackets round them which means that those fields will not print if they are blank hence on a blank death tag you get Robert died. You can delete tags by type using John Cardinal's TMG Utility which has conditions included such as Retain if date not empty. It can be obtained from http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/index.htm and is donorware. Well worth obtaining and definitely worth donating.
  22. I've just checked in my preferences and the Backup path had changed from the folder originally selected to LoadMode\ / When I tried to backup I got the message Invalid file name and the programme then asked again for a backup. when I said No it closed the project and then hung. Had to end in Task Manager. Have now changed it back.
  23. I've got my first fatal error code. Fatal error: Exception code=C0000005 @ 2005.10.09 09:29:12 PM. Error log file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\VFP7Rerr.log Called from - tmgmain line 584 {d:\program files\the master genealogist\tmg\programs\tmgmain.prg d:\program files\the master genealogist\tmg.exe} I had 2 projects open as I was experimenting in one which only had 3 people. I had opened a tag and clicked on a witness to change their role and bingo! I used to have a NVidia GeForce Mx440 graphics card with 64Mb video RAM and had no problems re Fatal Errors but I did have problems with freezing of the screensaver and screen corruption on booting up so yesterday I installed a ATI Radeon PowerColor 9250 with 256 MB video RAM. The test project closed but the other stayed open. Reopened fine
  24. Fatal error: Exception code=C0000005

FWIW I checked for an updated driver via Windows update and there was one for my card. Now just see if I get any more.
  25. Sorting of Association Events in FGS

John, As I also couldn't post to the Pre Sales forum, I replied direct to to the request. As I said, it is not something I use. Jim has posted a reply now in the forum which elaborates the technique. Some people use the non-people to a great extent for census records, houses and businesses primarily. By using tags with appropriate sentences for the roles then you could create an individual narrative probably for the non-person/ A quick play got me the following IN for a church with 2 members View Lane Methodist Church (1) View Lane Methodist Church (1). The following were members in 1844,Jeff Piper (2) and John Clark (3). With a refining of the sentences and addition of approriate sentences such as inauguration of the building etc. you could build up a complexw document.
