  1. TMG7 duplicated

I just updated from V6.12 to V7 and tried to restore. In V6 all my projects are in C:\Prgram Files\The Master Genealogist\projects and exhibits are in the same line under pics. When I tried to restore my data it put it under My Documents. So now I have two seperate sets of V7, one under Program Files where I want it, the other under My Documents where it put the data and I don't want it there. How can I get everything to work like I want? All the files and folders seem to be duplicated which does not make sense. I tried to go into preferences and change the default to the folders under Program Files but it would not let me. Please someone help me before I just decide to dump version 7 and stay with 6.
  2. TMG7 duplicated

OK - I had read all the pre-install instructions, but when I came to something that talked about VISTA I skipped it, because I am still running on XP. When I went back and read everything like I should have from the beginning it made sense and I now understand what is happening. This is a case of PICNIC - Problem in Chair, NOT in Computer. Thanks to all who answered and cleared this up for me.
  3. According to the TMG manual I can set up a path and use external data files for a Memo field. I created a text file in Microsoft Word it is just one line, This is a test for using an external data file for a memo field. Then in TMG I created a tag and in the memo field typed in the path for my file name putting an exclamation point as the first character. !C:\extfiles\test210 Then I ran a Journal (custom) report and sent it to a Word file. At first it just printed the date and sentence for the file but did not print any of my external file. I went back into my external file and put a space in front of the sentence, now it does print the sentence but it prints several lines of garbage before and after. HELP what am I doing wrong?
  4. Would like to be able to have the option to have a page break for each generation when doing a custom journal report. I have gone out to Word and created page breaks, but would be nice to have it be automatic as well as it has messed up my index to add the breaks. The report looks much more professional to have each generation start on a new page. Also would like to be able to put 2 or more images side by side, for example small pictures of husband and wife side by side on the report instead of one under the other. Is this possible or am I still wishing? Carol
  5. Call External File from Memo Field

The manual says a word file with an extension of .doc but I will try it with the .txt Thank you
  6. Several "newbie" questions

Hi, I also questioned how to be able to print multiple marriages in order, ie. he married 1st jane brown, he married 2nd susan black etc. Some one answered with a website and I am able to say it works perfectly. The person that answered said to look at his article on Multiple marraiges and the web site is tmg.reigelridge.com. The answer is to change the sentence structure under in the marriage record and it is all explained in his website. Good luck.
  7. Wish List - Generations and Images

NOT kidding. When you do a Journal report and send it to Microsoft Word you have titles Generation One, Generation Two etc. I like these generation breaks (Titles) to appear at the top of the page and on a new page for each generation. For example Generation One appears on page 1 - 3, Generation Two title might start in the middle of page 3. I want it to break and start to print at the top of page 4 so that it appears more like a chapter. I used to use a very old genealogy program (ROOTS3 and Roots5) it automatically did a page break for each Generation Title and it is on my wish list for TMG to provide an automatic page break also. I'm talking about the Titles that appear on a Journal Report, such as Generation One, Generation Two etc.
  8. Hi - I would like to have borders and frames around my pictures that I am putting into my Journal report. I know that I cannot use the TMG frames for my exhibits, but does anyone know how I can put borders/frames around my pictures (like the borders in Word) and keep them as JPEG files. It really would look good to have some different style borders around the smaller exhibits in the Journal report. I have some frames in Photo Deluxe, but the ones I like are the more formal borders like in Word. Does TMG have an option? Thanks for any help. Carol
  9. I imported my data base from a very old program (RootsIII & RootsV). I am trying to accomplish 2 things in my TMG Custom report that I used to be able to do in Roots. One is to display the parents of a non-primary spouse, for example Jane White the d/o Jim and Nancy Green White. Roots did this automatically and it appears that TMG does not, am I doing something wrong? My other problem that Roots did automatically is I would like to see multiple marriages say for example married 1st Jane White, married 2nd June Black, married 3rd Joan Gray. Again does TMG do this automatically like Roots? If TMG does not do this automatically, it would be a wonderful feature to add, in the meantime if not automatic is there a way to accomplish these 2 tasks manually?
  10. Marriage Roles

Ok, I received my book "Getting the most out of TMG" and read up on Terry's input for creating multi marriages, it works great, but still have some questions. I am correcting my one project that I imported and doing it manually, my other project will be about twice as many people (about 13,000). All my marriages converted over using the roles Groom and Bride, Is there any way to globally change the tags to principle? I don't like the way they display on the screen if using roles - for example in the marriage tag the name displays as Bride; John Doe (1023) if you use principles instead of groom and bride they just display as John Doe (1023). Or is there a way to change the way the names display and I can leave the tags using the role of groom and bride and just change the sentence structure the way Terry suggests. I hope this is not too confusing.
  11. Spouses Parents Multiple Marriages

Thank you Terry for your quick reply. I printed off the information and will fix my database and try my Journal report again.
  12. Hello - I am new to the forum and I have 3 questions for right now. Is there a way when doing a Custom Journal report to set it up to have a page break between Generations? Right now I am manually putting in page breaks in Word. My second question is when writing a text (bio for example) is it possible to center some lines? Again I am having to manually do this after I have produced a RTF file in Word. My last question is I have a lot of pictures and documents that I am putting into my file (Exhibits) and I would like to use some of the frames from TMG is there a way to use frames for Exhibits or are they only for charts?
