Hi all! Sure hope someone can figure out this problem. I am trying to output a Pedigree (5 gens per page) including 20 generations into a PDF file. The first time, I received a spool error, no report. Second time, TMG was stuck at 3% at the calculating text for 561 charts.. stopped and produced a 1 page report with only the font name and partial names showing. Third time, TMG stopped responding at 0% at the calculating text, I had to shut down the program. I've tried printing to screen (properties using Generic, Acrobat PDF Writer, etc). Tried printing to file as Acrobat PDF... If I press "Save" nothing happens, report windows goes away. If I press "Print & Save", TMG gets stuck. I even tried "Install PDF printer" and let TMG install it. Doesn't seem to help. Is there a page limit with Acrobat Reader?? At 15 gens there are 197 charts...TMG error says "General print spooler error". I can output a 5, 10, 11 and a 13 gen pedigree using print & save. Pulling my hair out here!! Julie Ladysmith, VA

Can anyone tell me how the heck to change the default icon for images in Second Site? It shows a small face currently. Since I am using this to create dog pedigree sites, I really need another icon to designate an image. I have exhausted all the help in Second Site. I LOVE what the program does but screen shots in the help sections would be so much easier! I can't make heads or tails out of where to go to change an option half the time. Help file says "The Button Image property determines the image associated with a User Item. The Button Image property is set to an image code which Second Site uses to determine an actual image. The image is selected from a pull-down menu that includes all the standard names for Second Site images (including some that are not appropriate for menu buttons) as well as the file names of any GIF, JPG, or PNG files in the Input (-i) folder." That is as clear as mud to me. Help! Julie Aw heck! I have been messing with this too long today! I found it... it's under Pages: User Items... then Add.. Other-Exhibit Gallery. Hi all, Okay, I am trying to print a Journal Report. How can I get it to show: Hoofprint Max, son of Keltick Emmet and Hoofprint Nova? Right now I am getting this: Hoofprint Max ((?) Keltick's Emmet, #2). Was whelped on , etc. I found a sentence structure but I don't know where to put it??? I tried adding it to the Parents-Bio tag, nothing changed. I do have Marriage tags for each... Help!! Julie

Hi Terry, Same thing is happening with the Compressed Pedigree Report. I guess it is just too much data for TMG to handle. I let the Compressed Pedigree run all night on 25 generations, when I got up this morning, it was stuck at 0% generating text. Said there were over a million "people". LOL! I had to ctrl-alt-del to stop TMG. I tried running the reports on my husband's computer with no better results. I'm running TMG on a fairly new computer (bought this year), dual-core with GEForce graphics and Windows XP Pro so I don't think it's that. I have 1 Gig of Ram, maybe I need to bump up the memory? Oh well. guess I'll have to stick with 15 gens until I get a response from Tech Support. Julie

Hi Terry, I just figured it out! I went in and created a custom format, and ta da!! Now I have the report outputting as I want it. I just kept clicking and unclicking options in the name options, creating a small report each time to see what the changes were. Now I have this: Generation One 1. 1 Dixie Leigh (W42798), daughter of Hero of Grettamarc (A794101) and Frieda of Dornwald (W768), was whelped on 1/9/1946 USA. Color listed as Cream/Black. She was bred by E Kent Oglethorpe. Generation Two 2. 2 Hero of Grettamarc (A794101) was bred to Frieda of Dornwald (W768) (see #3). Children of 2 Hero of Grettamarc (A794101) and Frieda of Dornwald (W768) (see #3) are: 1. i. 1 Dixie Leigh (W42798). 3. 2 Frieda of Dornwald (W768) was whelped 7/31/1942 in USA. She was bred to Hero of Grettamarc (A794101) (see #2). Color listed as Black/tan. Have you ever had an issue with printing out a Pedigree with a large number of pages? I have another post on the board about it. Seems a shame TMG can do really neat stuff but you can't get it out!! I may have to try contacting Tech Support. Julie

Hi Terry, Thanks for the help, never occurred to me to add to the Birth tag. My other question is: Why do my names print out like this: Hoofprint Max ((?) Keltick's Emmet, #2). on my Journal report? This is the first line in the report, and nothing I do seems to get rid of it. I don't understand why the (?) appears and only the Father's name appears. Can you tell me what that first line is? Is there a way to correct? Julie

Help! I was trying to figure out a way to get rid of the blanks in the Ahnentafel report. I don't know what I did, but when I try to print to screen the report won't show any data! Anyone know what the default settings are so I can reset? Julie

Hi! I've imported Data from Legacy into an existing dataset. Is there any way to merge different tag types? When I imported I didn't see a way to select custom tags? For example... Legacy has Birth, TMG has Born. My reports are set up to show data shown as Born, it is not picking up data shown as Birth. Do I maybe need to change the Birth tag somehow? Legacy has Desc, TMG has a custom tag named Color. Legacy has Misc, TMG has a custom tag named Breeder. I've been changing the tags as I come across them but it would take me forever! I just imported 60,000 dogs and have another 150,000 to import. Please help! Julie Ruther Glen, VA USA

Hi Terry! Well, duh! You are so right. Of course there are no "custom tags". LOL! Sometimes my mind can't keep up... Anyways, I did try reassigning during Import but it made them a seperate tag. I changed Desc to Color and ended up with (2) Color tags. May be due to Legacy, not sure. No big deal since I figured out how to incorporate the new tags into the reports. Yayayayayaya!! Hi! How can I get the Reference field to print on a chart other than the selection under Other Chart Options - Misc? I don't want it to be next to the name [ie Tom Hanks (123456)]. I would rather it appear under the name with a label. Is there a way to set up a tag that would pull the reference info? Thanks in advance! Julie Ruther Glen, VA

Hi John, I did use the Advanced Import but the only tags were the Standard Tags in TMG. None of my custom tags show in the list upon Import. You would think it would have! LOL! But the good news I have relabeled the non-conforming tags to appear to be the same and re-did my data options in my reports. So they are now pulling the info and even though I have different tags for the same info, at least I don't have to re-assign. Thanks goodness TMG lets you choose up to 9 fields on the reports. Please help! I just ran a few Ancestor Box Charts. Some of the pictures are not displaying at all. Thought it was a BMP issue, so went and changed those to JPG, deleted the BMPs and inserted the JPG's. Those now seem to display in the charts. While I was doing that I noticed that some of the pics orginally JPG are also not in the charts. I did move the external folder to another location on my hard drive, I BET that's what's happening!! Is there a way to check which names have exhibits?? Or an easier way to update the exhibits to the correct path? I've tried refreshing thumbnails, etc. Only says I have 2 missing exhibits. You are the BEST Mike!! That worked perfectly!! I've been getting an error after creating a chart today. Says "Visual Chartform cannot be found, Reinstall from disk" when I try to create a 2nd chart. If I close TMG and reopen, it seems to be okay, still can only create 1 chart but I'm not ready anyway, so am not too worried. Really strange, as it's not done that before! I do get crashes (TMG disappears) if I use the buttons on the left (add tag, delete tag, etc), so I use the right mouse button instead. I'm still running a trial version, hoping that once I register it, these little odd occurances will stop? Oh, and by the way, I have about 4,000 dogs entered, of Max's lines. Bound and determined to get this done!! LOL! I'm itching to get started on the mega chart! Wish me luck!! Once again, thanks!! Julie

Ok, I don't have all the data in yet, but I have been running some test reports on my dog's ancestors. Does anyone have the best settings (box size, margins, etc) for producing a very large chart 3' x 10' ? What I'd like to do is maybe have 2 charts printed 3' x 10' and then paste them together so they measure 6' x 10'. I'm including 30 generations with photos and my test charts are coming out with a lot of white space, and are way too long! I've played around with top to bottom, left to right, etc. Haven't ventured into any of the other options. I want to get the most data in the least amount of space, even if data is small. Any suggestions? I'm hoping to save some hair on my head!! Thanks in advance! Julie

Ok, I just don't get it!!! I can create an Ancestor Box Chart that shows all my custom tag data. Everything is there that I want. But when I create a Hourglass Chart, all of my custom tags show nothing!! They print on the chart for example as "Reg No: ". Just the label! The data type settings are exactly the same for both charts. I have tried selecting different choices but I keep getting the same result. Doesn't seem to matter, data is missing. Ancestor Box Chart: Born: Label Date PlacePrep Place Reg No: Label Date PlacePrep Place Color: Label Date PlacePrep Place Breeder: Label Memo The custom tags have data only in the "Details" for Reg No & Color. Breeder has data only in the "Memo" and Born has date and Country. What the heck????? I am baffled! Julie

Both are checked... But I have just figuered it out... I did not have "Use Place Styles" checked!! Now all iof my data is showing, whew!! Thanks for your help! Julie

<<Just a stray thought, go with what you know this year. Perhaps two of your 3 x 8 feet charts would be a good “tease” donation to display at the show this year (I’m surprised that 15 generations can fit on such a “small” sheet). Complete the one 15 generations chart on Max that you are practicing with now. Do a similar chart on the ancestors of your favorite dog that is in the 15th generation on Max’s ancestry chart that has a fully known pedigree to the “Original Registered German Shepherd”. That one would be about 14 generations. The 2 charts together would be summa-cum-sexy, although a very incomplete ancestry of Max. It does hit the high spots. Also, just place a sticky note on the first chart linking it to the continuation chart, no need to glue the charts together or to make the linkage permanent.>> Hi Mike! What a great idea!! Hi Mike! Wow! So this is a bright light at the end of this tunnel! I'm still trying to absorb all the info you posted. I have about 3,000 dogs in Max's lines entered so far. I believe there are 5,000 unique names in his pedigree. I can take him back to the first German Shepherd registered in Germany (about 28 generations). Trying to get this done before August (National dog show in Canada), and I would love to have a chart ready to donate to the club. I've been able to play around with the Hourglass chart listing ancestors only. This seems, for some reason, to build a more managable chart. I can make a 15 generation chart small enough to fit on a 3 x 8 sheet so far. Working with that and moving things around, I hope to be able to somehow get all of this data on a chart. It seems this should be something fairly easy to do but I am stumped. I have custom tags set up as "other events" like this: Reg No: memo field has data (ex. A123456) Color: data in Details field (ex. Black & Tan) But I get so confused when I go to the chart option Data Types screen! What do I know what to select to include this data? Thanks in advance!! Hi! Me again!! One last question I hope! When I make a box chart, I don't want blank data to print. For example I only have limited info on certain dogs, no Reg No or no color. On the chart they print Reg No: ________ and Color: ______. Is there a way to suppress empty data fields? I did click on "Remove blank lines" but this does not seem to have any effect.
