  2. snow leopard, crossover 8 and tmg7

I don't have any experience with Crossover 8, but Snow Leopard, TMG7 and VMWare Fusion all work just fine-what sort of problems are you having? Perhaps then we can narrow down if it is SL, CW8 or TMG7.
  3. Running TMG v7 via Parallels in a Mac

Don't forget that some of us Mac users also use VMWare Fusion, so searching for both Parallels and Fusion will give you results from the majority of the Mac users. Siobhan
  4. adding an image to the layout

Not directly to that image box. You have to go to the exhibit log and add that image there, making sure as Jim said to make it the primary one for the person.
  5. GUI

You state that you would prefer the program to look like Web 2.0 style-but this is not a web interfaced program. Many of us are quite happy with this. If you look around at the major genealogy programs, none of them has a Web 2.0 style either. What do you find so offensive about the GUI?
  6. When going into the layout manager after upgrading to version 7, I decided a couple of my layouts were not being used, and I wished to delete them. Doing so causes the project to "fail" (I tried to attach a screen shot, but it isn't sticking). I am using version 7 on a Windows Vista Home Premium machine-however, I was able to replicate this on my laptop which has XP installed. Here are the steps I took: Open layout manager Choose a layout to delete Delete a layout Click close to shut the layout manager window When prompted to save current layout-answer "no" The project then "disappears"-toolbar intact, project showing open, but all windows are gone Have to close project and reopen to be able to work again Is this a known bug?
  7. Layout manager bug?

Well I'll be !*$#*!-it works just fine now. Only difference is that I reformatted my hard drive over the weekend. Hmmmm.....
  8. Layout manager bug?

Can anyone else verify this? Has it already been reported?

  10. Chat Transcripts have Moved

Thanks Terry for taking a look at it-it works like a charm now! Siobhan
  11. Chat Transcripts have Moved

Terry, I get the exact same message as Mike...attached is a screen shot of the error, showing that I am logged in. Siobhan
  12. Exhibits and Images

Forgot to ask if any is designated as primary-that will make a difference too. Siobhan
  13. Exhibits and Images

Maureen, What format are they in? Siobhan
  14. Is it somehow tied to the roles? I can't replicate it when I create the role names you have, but I noticed in your screen shots that the roles are incorrect for the principal and the witness on their respective person views. Elizabeth Unknownsurname Graham has WITNESS as her role, when in your previous screen shot, you clearly have her as the EXECUTOR. Could it also possibly be a language flip by the program? One where you don't have WillWriterPLDM and Executor set up as roles? Just thinking through the possibilities here...
  15. I too get the beeps when using the up/down arrow keys. It doesn't matter what screen I am in. For example, when on the person view, if I go up or down the tags, the beep is there. I have all beeps and in fact, all sounds turned off in my windows vista preferences, but I still get them in TMG. Siobhan
  16. Kevin, You might want to check out this topic that both Robin and myself commented on late last year. The debate was the US version vs the UK version, and I commented that I run a hybrid version which combines the best of both worlds. The topic can be found here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...ic=4807&hl= Let us know if this helps with what you want to be able to do. Siobhan
  17. Are there any Image tips?

I use my originals as they are for TMG. However, for output to the web via Second Site, I have a secondary folder with scaled down versions of them. One possible "problem" (not so much a problem, as a nuissance) is that if you use your photos as is, when running a report and including the photos, it may take a while to build the report due to the size of the photo files. Of course, all that varies depending on how you save your original photos in the first place.
  18. My new favorite layout

Here's the one I use most often, of course, I have others depending on whether I am working with exhibits or Quaker record entry too.
  19. Wishlist

Utilizing Quaker dates, especially those before 1752 can become quite annoying when recording any event, as TMG doesn't identify those dates as anything other than irregular. For myself, I would like to maintain the integrity of the original data by recording it as found, since there is too much room for error when inputting events prior to 1752 into a database. Ideally, what I would love to see is it accepting these at face value such as 7d 5mo 1711, rather than having to click on "ok" each and every time I am working with Quaker records. If that isn't feasible, I would be willing to settle for a dating option, such as we have now with Regnal dates, but again, the whole idea is to maintain the dates in their original format Just wishing.... I failed to mention that one of my gripes about inputting them as irregular dates is that TMG fails to recognize them on the person view (at the top with the date ranges) and incorrectly identifies either a birth, death or both as being <?>, which isn't correct.
  20. Wishlist

Great suggestion, Teresa, I'd really love to see it too! Siobhan
  21. I'd love to be able to run a List of People with certain criteria, and have as an Option on the Secondary Output the ability to create a research task for all those individuals. An example of this would be a microfilm that I order from the FHL (for the example, I'll say it is death notices from 1836-1922). Let's say I have 850 people who lived in this particular county that might or might not be on the film. I run a List of People for those who I know or suspect died between those years, and then want to make a research task for each one. This report gives me 280 people from the 850 who match it. As it stands now, I would have to make 1 task and then copy it 279 more times, remembering to change the principal every time, which is ridiculous. Trying another route, making a Research Task tag doesn't work well either. If you run a list of all witnesses (all 280 of them), you can't pull the witness details into the report. In some cases, I have a single microfilm that spans 1538-1903 with baptisms, banns, marriages and deaths and burials, almost 400 years worth. On top of that, I have well over 1500 people who could feasibly all be on the microfilm, several times for each event, as well as ones they witnessed. I would just like to see an easier way to utilize the research log to it's fullest potential. Siobhan
  22. Have you used the macro setting on the camera? This usually works best for "up close" photos.
  23. Embedding text in jpeg files

Have you considered IMatch (www.photools.com) or BreezeBrowser (www.breezesys.com)?
  24. View History: more than ten?

I too would LOVE to be able to have more than 10...20 would be a good number. 10 isn't enough if you start jumping back and forth between siblings, etc. and then want to get back to the main people you were focused on. Siobhan
