  1. Error occurs when adding a new person

I had this "Alias 'BASE2' is not found . . ." problem also, this weekend, and tracked it down to the 'Sort' setting on the Project Explorer window; after changing back to "Sort: Surname" the 'Add Person' logic ran correctly. - - - - - - For the record, here's a very repeatable set of steps and symptoms, that might help your developers catch the error [Exception?] and put a more user-friendly scenario around the internal problem, whatever it is. - - - - - - TMG 6.09, Win XP Pro SP2 on 2-year-old HP Pavilion desktop (nothing fancy) Restored a recent copy of my database sqz file, with my own windows layout, which I have been using for a long time now, with no (other) problems; Project Explorer window is open, there are no Filters on it, Sort was "Data Set" (I don't know why), and it is not Linked to other windows File > Maintenance, VFI, No Problems; ReIndex, Optimize (Diff: 0 bytes) [i always do VFI and Optimize before Backup, so restore diff 0 is correct] menu > Add > Unrelated > Male > GivenName "John", Surname "Doe" Click [OK], then Accept surname not already in project, then ". . . tags have no citation. Continue anyway?" [Yes] modal dialog box Title: The Master Genealogist Text: Alias 'BASE2' is not found. 0 FRMEXPLORER.CNTPVIEW.CNTTREE.MLOADDATASETS Three choices: [Abort] [Retry] [ignore] Both [Retry] and [ignore] just beep again and return you to the same modal dialog box, with the same three choices [Abort] brings you back to the 'Add Person' window, and then Click [OK] brings up another modal dialog box Title: The Master Genealogist Text: The specified ID number is already in use. You can use F2 . . . One choice: [OK] So, back to the 'Add Person' window, and then [Cancel], which brings up another modal dialog box Title: The Master Genealogist Text: Are you sure that you want to lose the changes to this screen?. Two choices: [Yes] [No] But [No] keeps you stuck in this 'Add Person' / 'Alias BASE2 . . .' loop, so, eventually you choose [Yes], the 'Add Person' window closes, the Person View display does not change, but Select by RIN using the '#' on the toolbar, type in the new RIN that you just added, and the new person has been added Then, close Project Explorer window [red X in upper-right corner], and the 'Add Person' sequence works correctly, as expected Now, close my project, Open > Project > sample > sample_.PJC, update it to 6.09, make the backup, and let it open (5-window layout) Repeat the 'add unrelated John Doe' procedure, no problem Return to my project, add another unrelated person, and the "Alias 'BASE2' is not found. 0 FRM . . ." problem occurs again. And killing the Project Explorer window allows me to Add people, as observed above. Before this happened, the last time TMG wrote a line to Error.txt was back in November, 2005, and I have no recall of that problem, whatever that problem was.
