  1. Master Place List

They are probably associated with a repository...thus optimize will not remove them....
  2. That is not the standard name-nick tag, must be a custom tag or created from an import... The standard tag is Name-Nick and looks like this.... The standard sentence for the tag looks like this...
  3. Just enter the nickname in the given name of the name-nick tag....
  4. to vs in

Change the variable for the place to <to [L]>. This will override the automatic insertion of "in".
  5. What roles are you using? If you using Bride and Groom you have to modify those sentences to add the <[PARO]>
  6. Report Definition -- How do I copy?

In the Report Definition Screen: Select you good 1850 report definition Click on Add button Enter name for new report definition You will be ask if you want to apply the current definition (the 1850 report) to the new definition, click Yes Make the necessary changes to the new definition...
  7. Error messages

  8. Find people with specific source

List of Citations with filter of Source No. = [?] Save this report configuration and you can use it anytime you wish. When you run it it will ask for the Source No.
  9. Relation Tag

A hint that might help you not have to refresh so often...when you add a new individual add to the person in your data that has a relationship to you. For example, add a child to an aunt who is a blood relative, do not add to the uncle who is not a blood relative. This will correctly set the relationship for the new individual...
  10. Old Files

As I recall you don't read ver. 4.x and earlier files directly into ver. 5 and later but you import them. You can import from directly from the database of from a backup .sqz file...
  11. Displaying long text in Detail View

Right click in Detail Window and check "Show item tips on the Person View"
  12. Sentence structure problem

If I'm reading the above correctly you do not include [M1] and [M2] in the memo... you separate the segments by || thus the memo should read as (without the quotes) "Rector of Blankebir[y]||when he received letters of protection from the king"
  13. It's under Preferences>Program Options>Item Tips...Show Item Tips in Person View Also available through right-click menu in Detail Window
  14. Minor Bookmarking Issue

I listed the steps to reproduce it above...100% repeatable for me...will report as a bug...
  15. Minor Bookmarking Issue

Jim: This happens to me consistently when I use the bookmark which is not often. Open TMG Select someone bookmarked, not the first one That person appears and then the view is bounced to the first person in the bookmark list Both individuals are entered in the View list. From that point on in the session it works fine... I thought I had reported it at one time, but not sure...
  16. Vertical Lines in Memo

Be very careful about removing them and in fact I would not remove them until you understand why they are there. The memo field can be divided into nine subfields separated by the double vertical lines and referenced by M1 through M9. The import of your data has put some data from the import into these subfields and adjusted the sentence for the event to reference the subfields. Look at the sentence but clicking on the sentence button for the event (must be in advance editing mode) and you will see in the sentence template references to M1 and M2. If you have data in the memo field such as "||data" (without the quotes) you have nothing in M1 and "data" in M2. If you have "data||" in the memo field you have "data" in M1 and nothing in M2. I suspect you imported from UFT as I did several years ago. It's data from UFT's events that are in the Detail A & B fields in UFT that are moved to the memo field in TMG to M1 and M2. You can remove the || where you have "data||" without any problem. However you do not want to remove the || where you have "||data" unless you adjust the sentence template for the tag. It doesn't hurt to leave them as they are.
  17. I converted from UFT several years ago and I have no problems with the embedded citations in memos. I have many of them and I cannot duplicate the problem you describe using either Endnotes or Footnotes. What is your Report Destination?
  18. Expanded memo field

Right click in the tag list of the Detail Window and check Show item tips on Person View....
  19. No progeny

There is no standard Progeny tag...must be one you created...
  20. Exhibits - Internal or External ?

John Cardinal's TMG Utility will convert internal exhibits to external...see http://www.johncardinal.com/
  21. Exhibits - Internal or External ?

Some quick comments, I'm sure others will reply... Internal exhibits are stored internal to the TMG project files and as you found are not available to other image programs. Internal images are backed up each time you back up project and greatly increase the size of your backups if you have a lot of them. Internal images cannot be used in Second Site (John Cardinal's program that generates web pages). If you attached the same exhibit to several individuals the exhibit will be stored in the TMG file once for each. I keep all my TMG exhibits external in a special folder that is outside of TMG and in the root directory of my computer. Others establish various folders and subfolders to store them. I back the folder (s) up as required, when changes are made to exhibits. An external exhibit will only appear once in the folder even if you use it multiple times within TMG. If you make editing changes to the exteral exhibit the changes will be reflected in each instance where it is used. FWIW
  22. Finding Records by Source

List of Citations: Filter: Source No. Equals [?] When ran it will ask for the souce no. to be entered.... This will give a list of everywhere that the source is cited....
  23. multiline memos in person view

That only applies to mutiple lines in the Project Explorer, not the memo lines in the Tag box. I think what you want is under Tag Box, number of rows per tag....
  24. Not getting consistency in journal report

I suspect that you are in the beginners data entry mode...go to Preferences>Program Options>Data Entry and check Advance under Data Entry Mode...
  25. Not getting consistency in journal report

You indicated that you imported from UFT...when you import UFT marriages they are imported with roles Bride and Groom. The sentence template for those roles do not have the parameter for printing the parents (UFT printed the parents automatically and did not require a parameter). When you deleted the marriage and reentered them I suspect that you left the roles to the default TMG Principal role for both Bride and Groom. The sentence for the Principal role in TMG contains the <[PARO]> parameter which prints the parents. To correct all of you imported marriages from UFT that use the Bride and Groom roles edit the marriage event in TMG by clicking on the + (plus sign) on the tool bar or press F4 to open the Master Tag List, scroll down to the Marriage Tag, click on Edit, select the Roles and Sentences tag, note the sentence for Principal and where the <[PARO]> is located, select the Bride role and edit the sentence template adding the <[PARO]> parameter in the same relative location as in the Principal role, and then do the same for the Groom role. This will globally correct you imported UFT sentences unless you have modified them at locally in UFT. If you have any that were modify locally let me know and I can tell you how to locate them.... Hope this helps...
