  1. GenBridge SDK

Larry is referring to the GenBridge Software Development Kit (SDK), a tool that we make available to developers. Larry, GbIndiv will return every record in the project in sequence -- so to filter for records in a specific project, you still need to look at every person in the file, ignoring those that aren't in the DSID that you want. Events, names, sources, etc. are triggered by the pointer in GbIndiv so you don't have to read (and you'll never see) records that are not in the DSID that you want. Support for the GenBridge SDK is offered through gbdeveloper@whollygenes.com. Please write to that address if you have any further questions. Thanks.
  2. No LDS Reports

TMG has LDS-specific tag types, is approved for submission to the Ancestral File and you could construct a custom report for incomplete ordinances ... but it is fair to say that it is not preconfigured for LDS research as are some other programs.
  3. Sure. You can save it to a JPG, for instance, and take it to a Kinkos or similar print shop. Kinkos has a kit that you can download to prepare what you send to them. Or you can choose "Chart Printing Service..." and send it to us for printing . For black & white, you may get a better price locally but if you want color, I think you'll find our prices lower, even with shipping.

Don't miss your chance to spend seven days and nights on the Mexican Riviera, learning from some of the most experienced genealogists in the country. Our all-star lineup of speakers includes: - Robert Charles Anderson, FASG - Tony Burroughs, FUGA - Dick Eastman - Hank Jones, FASG - Marsha Hoffman Rising, CG, CGL, FUGA, FASG - Megan Smolenyak You are not even likely to find this great collection of experts at any of the national genealogy conferences! Here's your chance to pick their brains, lobby for feature enhancements, and just rub elbows with many other TMG users from around the world. Your spouse isn't interested in genealogy? That's OK. While you learn how to be a better researcher, your spouse will be pampered at poolside, at the spa, in the casino, in the sports facilities, or at the many other types of on-board entertainment. Then spend the evenings together dancing under the stars, watching a Broadway-type theater show, or relaxing in one of the many restaurants and lounges. Then on port days, you'll share a memorable vacation together at the exotic ports of Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. At prices starting at just $825.80 per person, including meals and entertainment, you'd probably spend more for seven days and nights at your local Holiday Inn. But this will be so much more educational and fun! For all of the details about the 2006 Genealogy Conference and Cruise, including speaker biographies, itinerary, pricing details, and reviews about last year's cruise, please visit: http://www.WhollyGenes.com/cruise.htm ==== UPDATED: GedStar Pro v3.1 =================== GHCS Software has announced the following upgrade to GedStar Pro v3.1. Note that it is a free upgrade and strongly recommended for all current users of v3.0: GHCS Software announces the release of GedStar Pro V3.1, an update of their premier genealogy software package for PalmOS handheld devices. Based on feedback from customers and other technical advances, this version greatly improves the support for integral photos and is a highly recommended, free update for all current users. According to Doug Gordon, Chief Technical Officer of GHCS, the new version “has a completely new photo conversion module that is much faster, more accurate, and supports every raster graphics format that we know of. In addition, improvements on the handheld side take advantage of the full 65K-color capabilities of newer devices to greatly improve the quality of the displayed photos.” The photo support is now fully functional with all the supported genealogy formats: The Master Genealogist, Legacy Family Tree, Personal Ancestral File, Family Tree Maker, and GEDCOM. In addition to a number of minor fixes and feature improvements, this is also the first version of GedStar Pro to include some basic support for the new Palm “one-handed navigation” feature that is found on the Treo smartphones and on the T5 and T|X PDAs. The list price for GedStar Pro was recently reduced to USD $24.95, and the new version is a free update for all existing owners of earlier versions of the product. For more information, please visit: http://www.WhollyGenes.com/gedstarpro.htm ==== Did You Know? ============================= DID YOU KNOW that while the cursor is in a data entry field, you can press the F2 key to get a list of all of the existing values for that field? If used on a place field (e.g., City), selecting a record will also fill in all of the later place fields (e.g., County, State, Country, etc.). DID YOU KNOW that you can press the F3 key to repeat the last value entered in any field? Press F3 again to get the previous value. CTRL+F3 will produce a list of the last 15 values that you entered. DID YOU KNOW that the Sort Date field of an event tag will let you control where that event appears in the printed chronology even if you don't have a date? The Sort Date field is only visible in Advanced Data Entry Mode (File > Preferences > Program Options > Data Entry). DID YOU KNOW that when you enter more than one citation for the same tag, you can control the sequence in which those citations print? Highlight one of the citations and click on the up/down arrows just to the left of the list. (It works for witnesses too!) DID YOU KNOW that you can display your family data in the context of an historical timeline on the Person View? Dozens of timelines are distributed with TMG and are ready to use from the Timeline Manager on the Tools menu. On the Globally Selected tab, highlight and "Select" one or more timelines. Then check the box at the bottom of the screen to "Show events from the selected timelines." When you click on , the selected timelines will appear on the Person View for anyone whose lifespan includes one of those timeline events. DID YOU KNOW that you can associate different timelines with different people? Access the Timeline Manager from the Tools menu and then click on the "Locked to this person" tab. Follow the same steps as above but the selected timelines will only be linked to the specified person. When you close the Timeline Manager and navigate from one person to another, the selected timelines will turn on and off as appropriate for the current focus person. DID YOU KNOW that you can link a timeline to a group of people, all in one step? Use the List of People report and use a Filter or Focus Group to identify the group of people to whom you want the timeline linked. Then from the Report Definition Screen, choose Options > Secondary Output > Lock Timelines. DID YOU KNOW that you can copy a subset of your project to a new project? Use the List of People report and specify the subset using a Filter or Focus Group. Then from the Report Definition Screen, choose Options > Secondary Output > Create New Project. DID YOU KNOW that you can always download the latest version of TMG? The "30-day Free Trial" (available from http://www.WhollyGenes.com/tmg.htm) is always a full installation of the most current version. If you need to install TMG on a new computer, for instance, you don't need to install from the CD and apply all of the subsequent upgrades. Just download and install the "30-day Free Trial" and then use your unlock code to remove the time restriction. ==== TMG Companion Products ===================== Don't miss these companion products which were developed for TMG users like you: "Getting the Most Out of The Master Genealogist" The popular book compiled by Lee Hoffman. 7. Archive CD Books USA

=== A Letter from Bob Velke ======================== Today marks the beginning of an exciting new development for Wholly Genes customers and researchers around the world. The press release below describes the formation of Archive CD Books USA, a new company that focuses on making old and rare research books available to you in digital format. Archive CD Books is a longstanding and well-respected international digitizing project with affiliates in Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, and Australia. As President of the new U.S. partner company, I am happy to be involved in such an important project; preserving old books and putting that material into the hands of the entire research community. I'm writing to you now, however, to describe how I believe this new company will affect you through new benefits and special opportunities for Wholly Genes customers. Longtime users of The Master Genealogist will remember our previous relationship with Ancestry.com through which we offered a variety of digital resources to Wholly Genes customers, including an extra CD with a variety of free titles that were bundled with TMG. That relationship came to an end when Ancestry.com merged with another company and became the publisher of its own family history project manager (Family Tree Maker). Since that time, we've looked for new ways to fullfill TMG users' requests for original genealogical research materials in digital format. Starting with v6, we began bundling TMG (CD-ROM version) with a free copy of "The Universal British Directory of Great Britain 1791" from the Archive CD Books project. The success of that relationship laid the foundation for the U.S. partner company. Through my involvement in both companies, you can expect to have access to even more great digital research tools in the coming months, including special discounts and exclusive offers for TMG users. You will also see new integrated features in future releases of TMG that will capitalize on the relationship with Archive CD Books USA. Although Wholly Genes Software and Archive CD Books USA are independent companies, they are housed together in our new expanded office in Columbia, Maryland. This proximity gives both companies increased cost-effectiveness through shared access to some very expensive commercial equipment (CD duplicators, color printers, scanners, etc.). It will also serve to improve the efficiency of shared administrative services, including its sales, technical support, bookkeeping, and shipping departments. To accommodate our growth, we've also made a number of personnel additions and changes. As reflected in the press release, I am thrilled to welcome Robert Charles Anderson, FASG, to the Archive CD Books USA team as Genealogical Consultant. Barbara Grempler from Wholly Genes Technical Support has been promoted to Project Manager for Archive CD Books USA and she is joined by a new staff of six who are responsible for scanning and digitizing the rare books. Barbara's spot in Tech Support was recently filled by Phil DeSilva, a very capable and experienced TMG user. Dorothy Turner still heads the Tech Support Department, ensuring that you continue to receive the excellent support to which you are accustomed. Lynda Waters is now the bookkeeper for both companies and we are in search of a new Shipping Manager to round out the expansion. Whew! And, oh yeah, we just hosted a genealogy conference for 450 people on a cruise ship... With all of the buzzing of activity around them, our software developers and hard-working beta testers have managed to release _six_ free TMG updates in the last four months and we've got a number of new and exciting development projects in the works. So stay tuned for many great new things from Wholly Genes Software and Archive CD Books USA! Right now, I invite you to support us by shopping for Christmas presents (or use our new "Wish List" feature and nudge your spouse in that direction !) at the new company's web site at http://www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com, where you'll find thousands of existing data CDs from our partner companies, plus the first few releases from Archive CD Books USA. If you want to be kept informed about new digitized products as they are released on CD from Archive CD Books USA, then please be sure to subscribe to its separate newsletter from that site. Cheers! Bob Velke President Wholly Genes Software and Archive CD Books USA === Press Release: Archive CD Books USA ============= FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Bob Velke Archive CD Books USA 9110 Red Branch Road, Suite “O” Columbia, Maryland 21045 (410) 715-2260 x150 http://www.archivecdbooksusa.com bvelke@archivecdbooksusa.com Family History Archiving Project Expands to the United States Columbia, Maryland – 24 November 2005 - The international Archive CD Books Project today announced its expansion and renewed focus on family history resources within the United States with the debut of a new partner company, Archive CD Books USA (www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com). The project makes digital reproductions of old family history resources available to the public, donates original publications to libraries and other institutions, and cooperates with those repositories to preserve their existing collections for future generations. Its uncommon focus on book preservation has led to cooperative relationships with some of the most important repositories of family history records in the world, including Trinity College in Ireland and The National Archives of England and Wales. Many organized efforts to digitize old books result in the destruction of the original so that its loose pages can be fed through high-speed scanners. But the idea of cutting off an old leather binding is unthinkable to historians and book lovers. "The Archive CD Books project focuses on giving the public access to these fragile resources, some of which are more than 400 years old, while protecting the original so that it is still available to scholars in another 400 years," said Rod Neep, who founded the project in the UK in 2000. In recent years, the popularity of the project has led to the opening of branch offices in Ireland, Australia, and Canada. “The new U.S. affiliate is key to our goal of making these family history resources accessible to researchers around the world,” said Neep. “After a false start under different management in 2003, the new U.S. partner company brings respected leadership and renewed focus on the priorities of American researchers,” he said. The principal of the new Archive CD Books USA is Bob Velke, who also founded Wholly Genes Software in 1991. That company’s cornerstone software product, The Master Genealogist, has earned a reputation as the most powerful family history project manager on the market and is preferred by experienced researchers in more than 40 countries around the world. Archive CD Books USA also benefits from the experience and reputation of Robert Charles Anderson, one of the pre-eminent genealogists in the United States. Anderson is a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists and is the Director of the Great Migration Study Project for the New England Historic Genealogical Society, editor of the Great Migration Newsletter, and co-editor of The American Genealogist. He serves as Genealogical Consultant to the new company. “Like others in the genealogical community,” said Velke, “we are passionate about old books. But some of the most valuable resources are held in protective custody and out of reach of researchers. By cooperating with libraries, societies, and other book lovers and by applying professional digitizing and preservation techniques, we are very pleased to help put that material back in circulation and into the hands of family history researchers who need them.” In addition to the thousands of digitized rare books which it makes available from its partner companies, Archive CD Books USA has already accumulated nearly a thousand rare books of its own through purchases, gifts, and promised loans to the project. One of the company’s debut products is a digital version of “A Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England” by James Savage, which was originally published in 1860 and is now offered for just $9.95 on CD-ROM. “Even a hundred and forty years after publication,” said Anderson, “Savage's four-volume set remains the starting point for most research problems in seventeenth-century New England. No other single source covers the first century of New England settlement so broadly.” Even experienced researchers would benefit from the full-text search that is supported by the digitized version of this important work. It reveals thousands of embedded references to people and places that are lost to those who rely on the book’s simple alphabetical list of surname headings. The company web site (www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com) offers a free newsletter for those who want to be notified of special offers and the release of new titles. Dealer inquiries are also encouraged. The initial release supports pictures in the popular JPEG and BMP formats, but support for more formats is expected in the near future. “The newer PalmOS devices have more memory, faster processors, and high-resolution color screens, which allowed us to finally implement this frequently asked-for feature,” said Doug Gordon, proprietor of GHCS. “We believe that GedStar Pro is the only genealogy program on any handheld platform to support this capability.” The list price for GedStar Pro was recently reduced to only USD $24.95, and the new version is a free update for all existing owners of earlier versions of the product. The product website can be viewed at http://www.gedstarpro.com. The contact email address is ghcs@ghcssoftware.com. === Updated: PathWiz v6 ========================== The following announcement is from Bryan Wetton of BeeSoft: RELEASE NOTICE RE: TMG Utility - PATHWIZ! In this issue: o A Letter from Bob Velke o Press Release: Archive CD Books USA o 2005 Genealogy Conference and Cruise wrap-up o Pocket Genealogist update o New in Store: Quicksheet o Member map o TMG Companion Products o Wholly Genes online chat o How to reach us === A Letter from Bob Velke ======================== Today marks the beginning of an exciting new development for Wholly Genes customers and researchers around the world. Most of the Wholly Genes staff and more than 400 researchers spent a week in the Western Caribbean learning research techniques from some of the most respected genealogists in the world. TMG users also heard a number of presentations about the software and add-on tools from a variety of expert users. Between conference presentations, we relaxed and took shore excursions on the exotic ports of Grand Cayman, Belize, and Costa Maya, Mexico. Everyone seemed to have a great time and it was a truly memorable week. Attendees have uploaded a variety of photographs of their experiences. You can enjoy them at: http://2005confcruise.shutterfly.com Thanks to all those who helped to make this year's event a success! We had such a good time that we're starting the planning process for the next such event. Watch this space! === Pocket Genealogist update ====================== The following announcement is from Northern Hills Software: Version 2.96.8 of Pocket Genealogist is now available on the Northern Hills Software website and is another free update for current users. (Contains all changes for the pre-release versions 2.96.1 through 2.96.8) It can be downloaded here: http://www.pocketgenealogist.com/download.htm You do not need to uninstall your current version in order to install this release. The change log can be reviewed here: http://www.northernhillssoftware.com/EN/Do...d/changelog.htm === New in Store: Quicksheet ======================= Now, by popular demand, you can get Elizabeth Shown Mills' "Quicksheet: Citing Online Historical Resources" from the Wholly Genes web store. This popular four-page laminated reference sheet summarizes the basic principles of citing your online sources of genealogical data and provides example citations for the most common record types. You'll make heavy use of this handy reference sheet! And at just $4.50 plus shipping from our store, it is nearly 25% off the suggested retail price. To order your copy of the Quicksheet, please visit: http://store.whollygenes.com/Detail.bok?no=117 === Member map ================================ The Member Map has been a popular feature of the support forum. You can plot where you live on the map, see where other TMG users live around the world, or find other users in your local area. Some users suggested various ways in which the Member Map could be better, however. We've recently started a test of a mapping system called "Frappr." With it, you can easily navigate the map of the world, zoom in/out, plot your location as detailed (or not) as you like, add comments (like research interests) and photos. You can even view the plotted points against satellite maps where available. We were able to replicate the problem, isolate the cause, and effect a quick repair to the program. The nature of the problem and the potential risk to your data warranted a prompt release of a new version. We apologize for the inconvenience of two updates on the same day. This free v6.07.000 update requires a previous installation of v6.00.000 or later. (Users with a prior version must first apply the update to v6.00.000). To download and apply the update, run TMG, access the Help menu and choose "Check for an update." Alternatively, you can choose "Check for a Program Update" from the Windows Start menu > The Master Genealogist group. The update will be applied automatically. Upon restarting, the startup screen will reflect a version number of "v6.07.000." FIXED o Tag Entry - It was possible under some circumstances for a citation to be accidentally deleted by either ( a ) entering a citation by clicking or double-clicking the blue bar in the empty Tag Entry citation field or ( b ) clicking into an empty Tag Entry citation field and entering a citation using F3 or ( c ) clicking on an empty "Source for this source" field in the Source Definition Screen and adding a citation using F3 or CTRL+F3. - A situation could occur where the Details window and Project Explorer each had a different focus and a new tag would end up linked to the wrong person. - A second primary Marriage tag could be created by editing a second existing Marriage tag which only had one spouse specified and adding the second spouse. - Memo and Sentence fields - Some newer variables missing from the right-click menus were added. - If you added an embedded citation to a memo, and while doing so added a new source, with a new repository, the program froze when you tried to close the Source Defintion screen. - Add/Edit Witness screen - The 'click-area' for the Role selection box was revised. - If you opened the Tag Entry screen, added one or more witnesses, clicked [Tag Type] and edited the tag type, saved the tag type, saved and reopened the tag, the added witness(es) were missing. - When the Citation window was open, it was possible to click on a specific part of the Tag Entry window causing it to come to the front and not allowing you to return to the Citation screen. o Details window - Other Info box - The Last Edited date was not updated for both principals on shared tags and for all linked persons when a child was added. o Edit - Find a person - The behavior of the various sub-windows was standardized. o Add Person - When adding a son to a mother, an error could occur when selecting the father. - With a Dutch project using a custom name style, the Simple Picklist displayed the name for a newly added person incorrectly. o Project Explorer - A child with a Child-Bio tag didn't show in the children list under the father. - Changing a flag could result in a blank entry in the PE list. - The PE didn't properly resort when the sort option was changed. - You could create a filter definition based on an empty filter selection. - The [Clear] button was not resetting the names selection to 'Both'. o Picklist - Saving a filter to a file did not save the names selection if other than 'Both'. - A grayout could occur after accessing Cue Cards from the picklist. - The [Clear] button was not resetting the names selection to 'Both'. o Accents - The 'Is not an ancestor of' filter didn't work. - A filter line could be updated without data in the value field. o Focus Group - It was possible to add names from disabled data sets. o Master Place List - Editing an event and adding a new person as a witness could result in the MPL closing when the event list was closed. o Merge Projects - If an active data set in a project had a corrupted Add Person template; and you merged a project into this project, the newly added data set(s) could acquire the corrupted Add person template. o Report Definition Screen - File output - Duplicate Works versions were removed. - Options - Tags tab - The sorting of the tag types list has been revised. o Pedigree Chart - The 'leading zeros' option for dates didn't work. o List of... reports - Report output didn't respect the Preferences date format setting. o List of Events report - Some issues of showing excluded and sensitive data were fixed. o Source Elements - Several fixes and changes were made to editing source elements. o Exhibit Log - A problem displaying the caption at the bottom of the EL was fixed. o Styles - The name style sort templates couldn't be edited. - The Children/Siblings display template was being used for display on many screens where the Output display template should have been used. This has been corrected. o GEDCOM import - Adjustments were made to import the various forms of submitter data found in GEDCOM files. o PAF import - Fixed an issue of sex import and parent links - The sentences created for imported custom tag types were corrected. o Fixed a variety of cosmetic or language issues. o Fixed a handful of more obscure bugs that were reported by users. This free v6.05.000 update requires a previous installation of v6.00.000 or later. (Users with a prior version must first apply the update to v6.00.000). Although the phone system will be disconnected for the move, our staff will continue to respond to email and forum messages as quickly as possible. To post a message for Technical Support, please visit: http://www.WhollyGenes.com/forums.htm === Did you know? =============================== DID YOU KNOW that you can temporarily suppress the display of non-primary events on the Person View? Right-click on any tag label (i.e., the "Type" column) and choose "Filter for primary events." Repeat the procedure to clear the filter. DID YOU KNOW that you can filter the Tag Box in order to limit the display to tags of a specific type? For instance, when you can see a list of occupations, residences, etc., that might otherwise be spread out over several pages of tags for the same person. Right-click on any tag label and choose "Filter for tags of this type." Repeat the procedure to clear the filter. DID YOU KNOW that you can add custom flags to track any topic of interest to you? Default projects include seven flags (SEX, LIVING, BIRTHORDER, etc.) but you can create any others that you would like. Open the Flag window using the toolbar button or option on the Window menu. Then right-click on the window and choose "Customize flags." DID YOU KNOW that you can use the Focus Group window to define a targeted list of people? You can then export a GEDCOM file, conduct a web search, or run a report in relation to the members of that Focus Group. Access the Focus Group window with the toolbar button or option on the Windows menu. DID YOU KNOW that you can leave the Focus Group window open while navigating to each of the people in the group? Right-click on a name in the Focus Group window and choose "Change focus to this person." This is a handy way to manage a clean-up process for a specific list of people. DID YOU KNOW that TMG can help you find data entry errors and illogical data (e.g., death after burial, children born to parents of unusual age, etc.)? The Audit Report is available from the Report menu and produces a list of such possible problems. The criteria for the search can be configured on the report's Options screen. DID YOU KNOW that the Exhibit Log supports PDF files, RTF documents, Powerpoint presentations, and many other kinds of Windows file types? To link one of these external application files as an exhibit, right-click on an empty space in the Exhibit Log and choose Insert New Text > External File. On the Insert New Exhibit screen, under 'Files of type:', be sure to select 'All files (*.*)' so that the list includes file types other than TXT files. After attaching the exhibit, you can double-click on it in the log and TMG will run the associated host application and automatically open the file. DID YOU KNOW that you can suppress the display of output file types that you don't use? Access the File menu and choose Preferences > Program Options > Reports. Then uncheck any file types that you don't use (e.g., WordStar, DisplayWrite, etc.) and they will no longer be offered as options when you select a report output file type. === TMG Companion Products ====================== Don't miss these helpful products that are specifically designed for TMG users like you: "Getting the Most Out of The Master Genealogist" The popular book compiled by Lee Hoffman. Dad lost that battle and died peacefully on September 30th with his family around him. Thanks for the many notes of prayer and encouragement that I received in response to that article. And thanks especially to the many kind souls whose donations for cancer research were dedicated in Dad's name. Your concern and support were touching and very much appreciated. - Bob Velke Obituary: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...5100401741.html === Wholly Genes online chat ===================== The next online chat with Wholly Genes will be on Saturday, 22 October 2005, at 2pm EDT and again at 11pm Eastern Time. Arizona TMG Conference o TMG Companion Products o Wholly Genes online chat o How to reach us === TMG v6.04 is now available ================== The Master Genealogist v6.04.000 is now available. This free update includes a collection of bug fixes and a few new or changed features as follows: NEW/CHANGED: o Local sentences are now available for both P1 and P2 when the role is the default role of Principal. This allows users to create separate local sentences for each Principal in tags that have two Principals entered. Note to users who customize local sentences in the default "Principal" role: Now that sentences for the two principals can be customized individually, keep in mind that if you customize the sentence for one Principal, the second Principal will continue to use the default sentence unless you also modify the sentence for that second Principal. o Right-click menu options were added to the ToolTip message field on the Custom Toolbar Manager screen. o Added an option to allow filtering the List of Tasks report for tasks that are linked to a source that is itself linked to a particular repository. (List of Tasks filter, Field="Linked Source", Subfield="Any linked Repo ID"). Note that this is not the same thing as filtering for tasks that are directly linked to a particular repository (Field="Linked Repo"). FIXES: o Add Person - When a wife was added, duplicate citations were added to the Name-Marr tag. In addition to fixing the problem, this version automatically deletes one of each pair of duplicate citations that were created as a result of this bug. - When Add Person included name tags and the names entered lacked either a given name or surname, the inferred part was not being added when the tags were saved. o Tag Entry Screen - After searching the Project Explorer and then editing any tag, typing F4 opened the Master Tag Type List rather than the Citation screen. o Relationship tag - If you edited a tag and expanded the memo field with F7 without first clicking into the memo field, any edits/additions to the memo were lost when the memo was saved. o Sentence variables - Conditional brackets () didn't work for the [FATH] and [MOTH] variables. o Data Set Manager - The scroll bar for the read-only memo field didn't work. o Expanded Picklist - A grayout occurred after running the Picklist several times in succession. - A grayout occurred after saving an empty filter. - Names in the list were not displayed correctly after running certain filters. - The Expanded Picklist should open faster without a period of jumping around. - A language issue was fixed for the Event mode Options screen. o Report Definition Screen - When selecting the subject for a report and using Search in Picklist to select a person, the Report Definition Screen was closed after making the Picklist selection. o Prompts - Could appear under floating toolbars. - You received an erroneous prompt if you edited a Tag Type and then clicked [Cancel]. - No prompt occurred when a History tag was saved with no witnesses. o Research Tasks - The date fields are now validated. o Merge Two People - You couldn't add ID numbers with the numeric keypad. o Visual Chartform - For projects with many long memos, charts generation could take an inordinate amount of time (even if the charts didn't include the memos). Fixed. - Report definition Screen - The 'Use the Current Focus Person' checkbox didn't work. o Fixed a variety of cosmetic or language issues. o Fixed a handful of more obscure bugs that were reported by users. This free v6.04.000 update requires a previous installation of v6.00.000 or later. Upon restarting, the startup screen will reflect a version number of "v6.04.000." === Second Site v1.9 update ===================== The following announcement is from John Cardinal: "Second Site Version 1.9 (Build 2) is now available. There are a lot of changes in version 1.9.2 relative to the last production release (1.8.7), and far too many to list here. A "Preview Release" of Version 1.9 has been available for more than a month and now Version 1.9.2 is available to _all_ Second Site users. The new features are described in Second Site News #022: http://www.johncardinal.com/ss/ssn022.htm The newsletter that announces this release is #023: http://www.johncardinal.com/ss/ssn023.htm You can download the new version of Second Site here: http://download.whollygenes.com/downloadSS.html This is the 21st consecutive *free* upgrade to Second Site dating back to the original release date of 23 June 2002!" === Wholly Genes is moving ====================== For the second time in five years, Wholly Genes Software has outgrown its facilities and is moving into a larger space. Effective immediately, the new corporate office location is: Wholly Genes Software 9110 Red Branch Road, Suite "O" Columbia, Maryland 21045 **NOTE** The office will be closed tomorrow and Friday (September 29 and 30) in order to effect the move. 16. The short answer is yes, you can do that. I think that you're laboring under the concepts/terms as defined by that other program, however. The straightforward way to do it in TMG is to create a single source called "1880 US Census TX" and it has rules about how to generate a footnote/endnote Then you create a single CENSUS event to which all of the people are linked. Then you'd link the event to the source with a single citation which references the county, district, and reel in question. That is, the county, district, and reel are stored in the "citation detail," not the source. You can then easily reuse the "1800 US Census TX" source, referencing a different county, district, and/or reel in each citation as appropriate.
  17. TMG Gold upgrade price

It costs more to upgrade in two steps than in one because it requires more administration on our end. Looking at it a different way, it is cheaper (and therefore an incentive that we extend to you) to buy the Gold Edition at the outset. You're right. I guess it would have been more fair if we had charged you to upgrade from v6.02 to v6.03.
  18. Board Statistics

I'll relay your suggestions to the developers of the message board software, thanks.
  19. Style Images no longer available

They are at http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/style...lder_post_icons I don't know what you mean. I don't see any such link there nor do I understand why you'd point to that folder.
  20. TMG user DeAnna Burghart has created a handy one-page "cheat sheet" with her favorite codes, variables, hot keys, etc. It is available for TMG versions 4, 5, and 6. All are downloadable from this site.
  21. Cannot log in

Roger, I don't know enough about you to know how to research or fix this problem. Please send an email directly to me at bvelke@whollygenes.com with your last name and email address. Luther, your login name is "Luther Strasburg" and your account looks to me to be fine. I don't know your password but you can click on "I've forgotten my password! " during the login process and it will be mailed to you.
  22. Local time for UK wrong

Click on "My Controls" near the top and then look at Options > Board Settings.
  23. Add children efficiently

You cannot enter a "sibling" (or "brother" or "sister") without telling the program how you define the term. Do you mean that the two children have a father, a mother, or both in common? Your decision about which parent(s) the children have in common is one thing. What those parent(s) happen to have been called is a completely different issue. You can record their proper place in the world (i.e., common parent(s) to these children) without knowing their names. See also this FAQ entry.
  24. Forum address change?

forums/ works again now. We never did suggest that people use that link but it was broken for less than two days. Oh, sure . Could I forward the hate mail to you? (You have no idea how many "spam" complaints we get for sending roughly one newsletter a month to people who asked for it.)
  25. Forum address change?

The published address of the forum and the one accessed from our main page is http://www.whollygenes.com/forums.htm which works. I don't know how people got forums/ (the folder, not the file) saved as a bookmark since, to my knowledge, we've never published such an address. It seems that we did have forwarding on that folder at one point and it changed somehow. I don't know how to forward an entire folder but I'm researching it - and when I find out, it will probably explain how we managed to break it . Letting them know how ?
