  1. Citations in Add Person screen

    Thanks for clarifying. Robin
  2. Sentence question

I am trying to change this sentence: "He was buried in Wallo farm, Oklahoma" to "He was buried in Oklahoma, on the Wallo farm." The code for the default sentence is: [P] was buried <[D]> <[L]> and I thought all I had to do was move the detail code like this:[P] was buried <[L]> on the <[D]> (Wallo farm is input into the Detail field) But this is what I'm getting: "He was buried in Wallo farm, Oklahoma on the." Can I fix this with variable codes? Robin in Short Pump
  3. Sentence question

Can you guess how embarrassed I am? I know that [D] stands for date but my pea brain was so focussed on "detail" that that's all I thought about. My new sentence says [P] was buried <[D]> <[L]> on the [LD] and the output says "He was buried in Oklahoma on the Wallo farm." Exactly what I wanted. Thanks Jim Robin
  4. I use the Obit tag a lot and input the text of the obituaries into the memo field. I use a sort date after the burial date. On Individual Narrative reports, the text of the obituary prints after all the BMDB for the person which is the way I want it. But it doesn't work that way on the Journal report. It looks like this report only looks at the event date and displays the info in that order accordingly. Problem is, the burial information follows the text of the obituary as if it was part of the obit and kind of gets lost in the narrative. I can put two carriage returns after the text of the obit which will give some space to the burial, but is there any way for me to get the burial up with the BMD where I want it? Robin in Short Pump
  5. Journal report question

Unchecking the "in a separate paragraph" seems to have done the trick. Thanks Terry and Michael. Robin
  6. This worked great! Worth waiting for LOL. Thanks Wholly Genes for listening to your customers. Robin
  7. Thanks so much, both of you. I will read Terry's post and get that fixed in my database. Robin
  8. It's in the Journal report. "The two known children of XX and an unknown spouse are as follows:" In this case I have a woman who has never married and had children by two different one-night-stands whom she has declined to name (if she even knows their names) and that's fine. I just take issue with being forced into this wording. I haven't been using v7 very long and I'm hoping this has finally been addressed. Or maybe it's user ignorance and I just don't have her and the children input correctly. I do remember asking about this during v6 and was told there wasn't anything I could do about it at that time. Robin
  9. Is there a similar method for eliminating the "and an unknown spouse" in the case of a child which was the product of rape? (or any other reason where the parent is unknown and likely will always remain that way) Robin
  10. Oh dear, I just upgraded from v6.12 to v7 and see that I can't just open my project in v7. I only have v6.0 on disk and it won't read my project either. I just need to download and install 6.12 long enough to open my project, run one last backup to make extra-doubly-sure that I have the most current and complete project to restore to v7. I am a fanatic about backing up my project, last one dated 10/31/10. I know that I haven't done any work in my project probably since then, but my project file is dated 12/31/10 because I was poking around in it after a phone call from a cousin. I probably didn't make any changes (or important changes) to my file at the time, but I just want to be sure. Is there a link that I can be provided (even privately) so that I can get this download? Thanks for your help Robin in Short Pump
  11. Can I download v6.12?

I had to re-install v6.12 because I wanted to do one last backup in order to restore to v7 since v7 won't just open a project created in an earlier version. Since I had also just upgraded from WinXP to Win7, which requires a clean install instead of a normal upgrade installation, I lost my previous install of v6.12 and only had v6.0 on disk. v6.0 would not open a project created in a later version. Boy was I between a rock and a hard place LOL. I have tons of TMG project backups, but since my last one was dated 10/31/10, I just wanted to be sure I was restoring the latest and greatest data in my project file. But all is well now. Only thing, I expected that my layouts and customizations would be intact (I backed it up that way) but they did not transfer to v7. So I just have to remember what I customized and go from there. 12. Can I download v6.12?

Thanks Virginia! For anyone else reading this with a need to know (upgraded from WinXP to Win7 and had to do clean install), another option is to open version 6 with the sample project and check for updates. I was able to download 6.12 this way. I have backed up, restored and am now in business with version 7. Robin in Short Pump
  13. I want a report that can identify all women in my database with a Name-Marr tag that has an empty suffix. I thought this would be fairly easy, but I'm not getting the results I want. My first attempt using only one filter: Name-Marr, suffix is empty, end resulted in just about everybody in the file. Second attempt: sex = F and Name-Marr, suffix is empty, end results in women who aren't married and don't even have a Name-Marr tag. So I guess I also have to identify women who are married, but I'm not sure how to do that. Not all of my marriage tags have dates, so I can't filter on that. Ideas? Robin in Short Pump
  14. need help designing report

hahaha I guess my copy of v6.12 is different than everyone else's. My only options with the LOC report are PDF, Rich Text and Word for Windows 8. Searching the help file for Excel, all that comes up is exporting the database. Searching on ".CSV" produces no results. So I guess it's time to upgrade. Thanks everyone for your help! Robin
  15. need help designing report

Thank you so much, Jim, it looks like that did the trick. A question about version 7: does it support exporting to Excel? I've been laboring to clean up some citations and the LOC report that I can get in v6 is just a mess because for some tags (like census) the second column is a date, but with other tags (like names and mother/father, etc) the second column is the name. If I could export it to Excel and arrange the columns to my liking, that would be heaven. Robin
  16. need help designing report

Is there any way to do a report like this in V6? Robin
  17. need help designing report

Nope, I don't have that. The last few items in my field dropdown list are "Suffix, Surname, Title, Year." We are talking version 6 aren't we? I'm running 6.12. Robin
  18. need help designing report

Thanks Jim, but I don't see "Tag Type" or "Label" as a choice. The closest I can get is Any Name Field, but when I tried it with =Name-Marr, I got no results.
  19. need help designing report

Yes, I was using LOP. But the LON report doesn't give me Name-Marr as an option, or any way to filter out men and single women. Is this one of those situations where I have to create a temporary flag and use a report to set it? Robin
  20. Research log/tasks

I don't use the research log like I should, but now that I'm getting older, I see the benefits more than ever. I pulled a list of tasks report and found several entries I created back in 2006. They are all labeled "general" rather than "person" and without any names, I can't tell who the tasks are for and I'd like to either correct that or delete them entirely. For instance, the task for one says "look up Harry and Bessie in 1930 Allegany County Maryland." I can't find a Harry and Bessie in my main project. I vaguely recall creating a project on Harry Truman back when my mother insisted she was always told she was related to Harry Truman's mother. I did a little census work on them, determined that there weren't any apparent links to our family and quit. I got a new computer in 2007 and didn't copy over that project to the new one, so that project is gone. If this was a task from that project, could it still show up in my list of tasks in my main project? If so, how do I get rid of the entries? Thanks for any help. Robin in Short Pump
  21. Research log/tasks

Thanks Jim. I didn't know I could display all tasks. That's exactly what I was looking for, those errant tasks are now history. Robin in Short Pump
  22. Has anyone else seen this? I get this message just after the splash screen and it closes the program. I can start it right up again but I get the welcome screen where I have to select that I want to open the last-opened dataset. I can use the program normally after that so it appears to be rather benign, but it sure is annoying. I'm running TMG 6.12 under Parallels and I used to have this problem occasionally before I upgraded to version 4, now it happens every other time I start the program. Running WinXP SP3, all the latest updates, Parallels 4 build 4.0.3810. Robin
  23. "Structure Version Missing" crashes TMG 6.12

I'm having no problems running the program but I must endure the "what do you want to do" window every time I start it up. If I check "don't show again" I get the error message the next time I start. So something must be afoul somewhere. If it's not in the .PJC file then I should be able to avoid this by upgrading? Robin
  24. "Structure Version Missing" crashes TMG 6.12

Thanks Virginia. I checked my preferences and they are all set as per your recommendations in that long-ago archived message. So does this mean my project file is corrupted? [shudder] If not, would upgrading to v7 help? Or should I just put up with the welcome screen? Robin
  25. I have been trying to get TMG 6.12 to recognize my shared folder for saving reports. I can browse to the folder but when I click "print and save" it tells me drive Z does not exist. It recognizes that drive for saving backups, why not reports? I am trying to come up with a workable backup solution for Time Machine without having to backup my entire Parallels file. Any manual backups on the Windows side that I can avoid, the better. How are y'all handling this? Robin in Short Pump
