  1. Running TMG under Parallels

May I ask why you do it this way? Will Quicken not allow you to save it directly to the shared folder? We use Mac Quicken, so don't have this issue. I don't want to settle for a two-step process if there's a bug afoot that could be fixed, or if it does work and there's just a detail I'm missing. (and just to be clear, there aren't any physical "drives" involved here, my Parallels shared folder is considered "network drive Z" Is your shared folder set up the same way? Maybe my husband set mine up wrong... Robin
  2. I'm not necessarily looking for a solution to this, just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing. I have a shared folder that is accessible from either Leopard or WinXP that is designated as drive Z. I am able to save backups to that drive without a problem, but I can't save reports to it. TMG says that drive Z does not exist. And what's weird is that I am able to browse and select the drive in the filename box. I don't know if anyone else uses their computer like I do, but the reason for this shared folder is so that I can put documents into it from the Windows side that I need to email from the Mac side. I still can't burn my backups to CD directly from TMG, so DH is working on another method: saving my backups to this shared folder and running a folder action or script that will then copy the file to a CD on the Mac side. Just curious how many of us TMG users run it under Parallels. Robin in Short Pump
  3. Another "TMG under Parallels" question

Thanks for your reply. I showed your process for setting up the shared folder to my husband and asked him if this is how he set mine up and he said no. So maybe we can look at setting up another one your way to see if I can save backups AND reports to it. Regarding burning CDs: when I was on my Windows machine (WinXP), I always saved my backups directly from TMG to CD. I had Roxio software installed from the factory on that machine which I used to make blank CDs writeable but I was never aware that I needed to have the software in order to write to or read the discs after that. Does it load at startup and run in the background? We did not install the Roxio on my MBP thinking I'd use CD burning on the Mac side should I need it, I don't do it very often. But Parallels/WinXP on the MBP has not even been able to read my backup CD, it sees it as a blank disc. I guess I'll have to install the old Roxio and see if anything changes. I saw something on the Parallels support forum where the support guy said back in July that PD does support CD burning, but he never came back to that thread with an answer to the poster's original question. So I don't know if it does or not. Robin
  4. According to Rootsweb's U.S.Town/County Database, Philadelphia belongs to 3 counties. What is the best way to record an event when I don't know which county was the right one at the time? Just leave the county field blank? Robin in Short Pump
  5. I'm having one problem and I suspect it's a Parallels issue but wanted to check with y'all first and see if anyone else has experienced it and has any advice: I can't backup to CD. Windows XP recognizes my disc in the drive, but TMG doesn't see it and won't write to it. So for now I am backing up to the server. This CD by the way is the one I had been backing up to when I used a PC. I tried a new CD-RW disc but TMG doesn't recognize it either. I'm using TMG v. 6.12 Gold, Windows XP Home and Parallels build 3214 on a MacBook Pro. Another thing to note is that with the old backup CD in the drive, Windows Explorer won't show me the file list. Thanks in advance, Robin in Short Pump
  6. TMG and Mac/Parallels

My husband and I were discussing this tonight on our way to dinner. I know that I had EZ CD Creator on my Gateway but I thought it was just for "formatting" blank CDs in order to prepare them to be written to. I didn't know that it was required in order for CDs to be continually re-written to. If it was running in the background, I obviously wasn't aware of it. So I guess I will send my backups to the server when I'm at home and use a pen drive when I'm on the road (I tried the pen drive today and it worked just fine) and that's what's most important. Peace of mind. Thanks Terry Robin in Short Pump Thanks for this link. I was looking for something like this on their forum but couldn't find anything relevant. I don't understand a lot of what these people are talking about, maybe my husband does. At any rate, hopefully CD burning will be fixed on an update in the near future. Robin in Short Pump
  7. TMG and Mac/Parallels

But I've been regularly backing up my TMG data upon exiting the program to various CD-RW discs under Windows XP (on my old Gateway machine) for years. So I had an expectation that I'd still be able to do that on my MacBook Pro under Parallels. I haven't had any other problems running TMG this way. Further testing and poking around shows that any CD I put in the drive looks like a blank disc to Windows, so it must be a Parallels problem. I'm also going to try backing up to a thumb drive and see if that work for me as a remote backup device. Robin in Short Pump
  8. Somehow I've got a duplicate DAU-BIO tag. Well I probably brought this on myself. I had originally linked her to the wrong father and after I got her linked to the right man, I now have a duplicate tag in his person view. Can I just delete the extra tag? Or is there some maintenance thing I need to do? I've attached a screen shot. Hope you'll be able to view it. Robin in Short Pump
  9. Duplicate tag in 6.08

I had to delete both of the tags and then re-link them together as father and daughter. That worked. Thanks. Robin in Short Pump
  10. Duplicate tag in 6.08

Here is her person view. Robin

There aren't any duplicate tags in her person view. Robin in Short Pump
