  1. Windows 10 and TMG 9

Unless the problem is triggered by the MSI installer (used by TMG) rather than being limited to MS programs. OTOH, yours is the first report I've seen of this problem with Win 10 and TMG. Virginia
  2. Windows 10 and TMG 9

JohnR - Those are known and not uncommon occurrences. Google for those software titles / Win10 install to see some suggested fixes. Virginia
  3. TMG Won't Load

Budlyte Note that you should be using Dropbox only for project backups. Syncing your files with Dropbox as you work in TMG can be problematic and risk loss of data. Virginia
  4. TMG Won't Load

There may be more or perhaps fewer than 140 files. That happens to be the size of my Sample project, but it differs depending on the individual project. Have you run the File / Maintenance utilities? Virginia
  5. TMG Won't Load

Use the project path option under Program Options / Other. I would use the backslash in the path.. Virginia
  6. TMG Won't Load

Budlyte If you do not already keep each project in its own folder (there are 140 or more files in a single project), you may find it will simplify moving or copying a project - just move the project folder. If TMG is not working, perhaps it does not know where your projects are located. Note that TMG will not move your projects for you automatically. If you have your projects in the v8 location, you should move them to the v9 location if that is different - and specify in v9 Preferences the path where your projects are located. Virginia
  7. Premature GEDCOM Export Termination

Whit - I'm glad you got it working. Thanks for letting us know. Virginia
  8. Premature GEDCOM Export Termination

Whit - Another culprit is McAfee's real-time scanning. If you are using that, turn it off while you generate the GEDCOM. Virginia
  9. Descendant Chart for One Name Study

Shaundm Take a look at this link and see if it can do what you want. It may take some experimentation on your part.: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/topic/14849-ancestor-chart;-direct-line-with-siblings/ Virginia
  10. Margaret - Have you set the WG printer port to Nul? Rightclick on that WG printer in Devices and Printers (note that Amyuni PDF printer driver may be shared by Quicken or other software on your computer, so be sure to select the Wholly Genes printer if there are several). Click on Ports and select Nul for Wholly Genes. Virginia
  11. Margaret Tabular reports sent to Word 2013 must be in RTF format, not DOC. DOC format will be garbled. See TMG Help for those reports and the need to use RTF. Virginia
  12. Printer Problem

Is this a wireless network? You might check the TMG mailing list archives for similar problems. In Windows Devices and Printers, is there a green icon on that printer - indicating it is set as the default printer on the rightclick menu? Virginia
  13. The 'VCF palette' is handy for quick coloring little charts, but box and line colors can often be more conveniently set in the chart definition screen using the Color Lookup Table (CLUT) or with the VCF option to use the accent colors which are active in the project. The colors in the standard CLUT can, however, appear garish in accents and charts. It is easy to create and save in TMG up to 16 custom colors. Once the custom colors are set up in either the VCF report options or Accent color lookup table in TMG, those colors are available for use in both the accents and in the settings in the chart definition options. You can lighten or darken them in the CLUT as you prefer while still retaining the base color. For example, I would use a darker shade for box lines, a lighter shade of the same color for fill or accent. *Note that TMG and the VCF chart editor have separate color lookup tables. Custom colors added to the TMG color lookup table are saved for use in TMG for accents and in VCF chart options. When you are editing a chart in VCF after you have created it, any custom colors added to that program's color lookup table are not saved from one chart to the next. The 'VCF palette' was devised as a way to 'save' custom colors in the VCF chart editor. I have assembled a group of custom colors in a VCF chart - see screenshot above - which you can download (save to your computer), unzip and open in VCF. You will want to print it out so you will know how the colors will look from your printer. 16Palette_1_.zip VIDEO tutorial is here. The instructions to accompany the video tutorial are below: To add custom colors to the Color Lookup Table: - Click in the first box in the custom color row. - Cursor to the Red box and backspace over those numbers. - Enter first number in the Red box. - Tab to the Green box and enter the second number. - Tab to the Blue box and enter the third number. - Click on 'Add to Custom Colors'. - Click in the second box in the custom color row. - Repeat above. After each color is saved remember to click in the next empty box in the custom color row before starting a new color. Virginia
  14. Examples of charts

Kaye - I do not believe the 'Like' option is enabled in the WG forum - but thanks for thinking of it. Re the colors in the FGS example I referred you to. Those are my custom colors (which anyone can create for TMG). The standard Windows colors used in TMG are limited and not well suited for our reports and charts - and layouts and accents. I have made a color palette available for download - with instructions for how to use it in the forum message here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=11267 I use the same custom colors for accents. See the favorite layout thread here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/topic/14442-my-new-favorite-layout-customizing-the-workspace-in-v8/?p=58147 Will your book use color? Virginia
  15. Examples of charts

Kaye - What are the page dimensions in your book? There are settings in the VCF chart options to make the box and connector lines wider by increasing the pixel width. Google for an explanation of the dots per inch/pixel relationship and what is required for printing. There is an example (including the required chart settings) of a waterfall descendant chart with 10 children here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/topic/15341-one-generation-10-children-plus-spouses-on-letter-size-paper/?p=62569 For the Family Group Sheet, see some suggestions for settings in the forum message here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/topic/14144-v8-color-coordinate-fgs-and-vcf/?hl=color-coordinate To increase the line pixel width in the FGS, go to the option tab Miscellaneous. Virginia
  16. citation has no sureties

If you don't want to see that surety reminder message, go to Preferences / Program Options / Warnings and UNcheck the option that is set for that warning. Virginia
  17. Examples of charts

Kaye - The Descendent Indented Chart under Reports on the top menu in TMG might suit your needs better than a VCF chart, particularly with large families. There is no learning curve - as with VCF charts - and you have options for data you wish to include. Virginia
  18. Pedigree chart not populating

Under Sureties, try ticking BOTH 'No Threshold' and 'Include Blank Surety'. Virginia
  19. Starting TMG 8 brings up a 'configure Quicken' Dialog Box

When this problem came up earlier, several of us used the free Microsoft Fixit program to clear it up. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en-us Virginia
  20. Sort Date in Tags

Ken - You have to be in Preferences /Advanced mode of data entry (not Beginner mode) and in Preferences /Tag box, tick the option for 'Both' for Sort date and Date. Virginia
  21. Problem with ancestor chart

For Surety in the chart options, do you have BOTH (and only) 'No threshold' and 'Include blank surety' ticked? Virginia
  22. Visual Chart Ancestor Box Chart

See the forum topic below. Note this includes the siblings option on the Other tab in the chart configuration. You can omit that. http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/topic/14849-ancestor-chart;-direct-line-with-siblings/ Virginia
  23. bad data tables

npirie What other programs are you running at the same time as TMG? For example, syncing your project with a cloud service could be a potential problem. Virginia
  24. Type box

Gail - Note that the Type column is a separately controlled column. Look carefully for the lefthand vertical line of that column - as in the video (link below) showing how to move that column to the left when it is hidden. http://www.screencast.com/t/Hyvz57K0m\ You can also see in the images below the left column line of the values column when that column is hidden or in view (click on images to view full size). If you can see that bit of the line, you can grab it with your mouse and move the column to the left and into view. Virginia
  25. Corrupted projects?

Are you using the Delete Project option in TMG - on the top menu: File / Delete Project ? Open the Sample project and delete the other projects from there. Note that each project contains from 80 to over a hundred files - including a .pjc file. With the exception of accents and filters, each of the files in a project has the name of that project with varying file extensions. Virginia
