Ole error code 0x800a017d:Unknown COM status code. 22 FRMNAMESEL.SHOW
Virginia Blakelock replied to tmg-caster's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Try resetting the report definition for the Descendant Box Chart - using the Reset Defaults button under the configuration name on the report definition screen. Run that default box chart and see if you get an error message. Virginia -
Memo text not showing up in reports or tag previews
Virginia Blakelock replied to Dave Shingleton Jr's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Perhaps further confusing to TMG is that the symbol || is used to divide the parts of a Memo in TMG. From Help: "The Master Genealogistâ„¢ (TMG) allows the Memo field to be split into parts. Vertical lines in the Memo field between the various pieces of information allow each part of the field to be treated separately. For example, the Memo field might look like this: Private||the 23rd Virginia Regiment." Virginia -
Yoneit For future reference - with the end of WG support - when a problem arises in TMG, first try the Search box at the top right of the relevant forum page (the forum will remain at least for a while). Enter a word or short phrase descriptive of the problem. In this case I would enter simply MSVCR71.dll. In that same search box, click the gray button 'This topic' and select 'Forums'. Click on the Magnifying glass on the green background. Your problem is not a new one and there is probably a message with a fix. You may also find the fix using Google with the search term 'TMG MSVCR71.dll'. Let us know if you do not find the solution or run into a problem with the fix - Virginia

For a list of all the places in TMG where you can change the font size, go to www.rootsusers.org and on the lefhand side of that screen click on Downloads to download the TMG Font Sizes pdf file. Can not buy Master Genealogist v9 anywhere? Stuck with 8?
Virginia Blakelock replied to wagner's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
I have a few registrations. Contact me off list at vablake@aol.com Updated 8 January: My few copies are all gone. Sorry not to be able to help - Virginia -
thanton2 There is no security threat. The slideshow viewer file in TMG will occasionally trigger a false virus message in some anti-virus programs, but the file has been thoroughly tested and there is absolutely positively no virus in TMG. For a clean install, uninstall v9.04 from the control panel and download and install the full v9.05, running the install as administrator (rightclick on the install file and run as administrator. You do not need to run as administrator after that). See Jim's instructions in an earlier message above. If you plan to continue to use TMG, I strongly recommend installing the latest version - 9.05. Back up of data on paper?
Virginia Blakelock replied to E Wilcock's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Evelyn - The Individual Detail, Individual Narrative, Family Group Sheet all have the option to create the report for everyone in the project. There are probably other reports that do the same thing. You will want to set the report options to include all tags and sources - and experiment with the various reports to see what best fits your needs. Virginia -

Problem printing from print preview
Virginia Blakelock replied to Patt's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Patt - One more thing to try: In the Printing Preferences / Advanced option on the last screen before you print- under Paper & Quality Options, try 'User Defined' - the last option on the iist. Set the orientation to Portrait and set the paper size to 850 and 1100. Virginia -
Problem printing from print preview
Virginia Blakelock replied to Patt's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Patt - I reported this in April of 2012, but it never got fixed. There were just a few of us on the TMG list that had the problem. My Epson inkjet still defaults to A4 (8.2 in. x 11.6 in.) in TMG 9.04 - but Portrait, so printing it on 8.5 x 11 paper I can adjust the margins and it looks OK. Having it stuck on Landscape is a real problem. You could print to pdf or rtf and change the print setting there. Virginia -
Can an older version be purchased? Do I want 8 or 9?
Virginia Blakelock replied to familyprayer's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Familyprayer You will want the latest version - and it is important to keep your v9 updated if future changes are made. You can do this by downloading the trial version from the Wholly Genes site. TMG 9.03 is working fine for me. I prefer it to v8.08. There have been problems for a few people with v9 in the 'Check for an Update' option in TMG, but to be safe, when an update comes out, simply uninstall your v9 from the Control Panel and install the full trial version (always the latest version). Getting pedigree report on one page?
Virginia Blakelock replied to Elfy's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Linda - Did you try resetting the report to its default settings (using that button under the configuration name) - and using those settings without making any changes? Is the problem only with screen preview or does it have the extra spaces in Word or PDF? Virginia -
reconnecting VCF with TMG V9.03

Joe - Was it a .png image? VCF will not accept those. Virginia -
Record is out of range
Virginia Blakelock replied to GatheringThreads's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
John - I suspect a machine re-install is an overkill. The problem is with TMG. Is the program installed to the default folders? Are these problems all with the Sample Project? Do you have a default physical printer attached to your computer? In the reports, check that the Surety settings are ticked for _both_ 'No Threshold' and 'Include blank surety'. Virginia -
Record is out of range
Virginia Blakelock replied to GatheringThreads's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
John - Try the File / Maintenance options, including Initialize Repeat files. Virginia -
Record is out of range
Virginia Blakelock replied to GatheringThreads's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
John - If you have not already done so, try installing as Administrator (rightclick on install file and select Run as Administrator).. You do not need to run as Admin after that install. Virginia -
reconnecting VCF with TMG V9.03
Virginia Blakelock replied to Joe Cummings's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Joe - Re 'cannot find ProgramData folder on C:' - make sure you have the Windows Explorer option set to show hidden files and folders: Start / Control Panel / Appearance and Personalization / Folder options / Show hidden files, folders, and drives. Tick that option in Advanced Settings and click OK. Virginia -
Getting pedigree report on one page?
Virginia Blakelock replied to Elfy's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Linda - I'm not sure where the extra white spaces are.. In the example below of a pedigree chart split across 2 pages, where are the spaces showing up in relation to those people - between generations? (click on image to enlarge it) Virginia -
9.03 loses "Prompt for Backup" setting
Virginia Blakelock replied to jonsaunders's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Jon - As Terry suggested, a backup button on your custom toolbar is convenient - and a good bit faster (see video here), which I find encourages frequent backups while I am working. Virginia. -
PDF File type: "Error Code 20"
Virginia Blakelock replied to SusanT's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Susan - Re the PDF printer - a couple of things to try: - Install the PDF printer: In TMG, File / Printer setup / Install PDF printer (button at top of page). - Go to Devices and Printers on the Windows Start menu. Rightclick on the Wholly Genes PDF Writer v4 and select Printer Properties. Select the Ports tab and set it to Nul if it is not already. Click OK. Re TMG Silver/Gold versions. Contact Support (support@whollygenes.com) and explain your situation. It should not be a problem for you to upgrade to Gold v9.03. Virginia -

TMG v.9.0.3 very slow and hanging
Virginia Blakelock replied to RuthAppleby's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
Ruth - If you notice that the colors in those videos are different from the accent colors in the standard color lookup table in TMG, it is because many of us have set up more subdued custom colors to use in accents and charts. There is info on how to customize the colors in the TMG color lookup table here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=11267 Ask if you have questions - Virginia
