  1. Hi Jim. Thanks for your response and the new pjc file. There are no cdx files in my project folder. I replaced my pjc file with the one you created. I got the same message and it appears that the _ND file is still the problem"

    10-12-15, 20:23:22 >Open project c:\Users\Valerie\Documents\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects\VALERIE SMITH__.PJC
    10-12-15, 20:23:22 >Found c:\Users\Valerie\Documents\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects\VALERIE SMITH__.UPD... deleting all indexes
    10-12-15, 20:23:23 >ERR. File c:\Users\Valerie\Documents\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects\VALERIE SMITH_ND.dbf not open
How did you attach that zip file to your message? I'd like to attach the _ND file so maybe you could take a look. I'd really like to fix it, as I'm loath to lose 3000 person records!
I haven't reinstalled MozyHome backup so I'm not restoring, or backing up this data. Once I get everything back in working order I'll use the backup method that comes with TMG and store the backups somewhere safe. Obviously MozyHome isn't good for TMG data.
Thanks so much for your help, Jim.

  2. I've been using TMG for about 15 years. In October I had over 11,000 person entries in my project.
After a hardware repair on my computer in October, all of my data on my hard drive was wiped out. I had been backing up my data using MozyHome. I retrieved my TMG data from MozyHome but the .pjc file was missing.
Fortunately, I have a 4-year-old hard drive with a functioning copy of my files on it (missing the latest 3000 person entries, though).
I installed TMG 9.05 on a spare computer, and used this old data to get a working copy of my project. I then took a copy of the .pjc file that was created, moved it to my "fixed" computer and adjusted it to point to all of the correct file locations with the restored data.
Now, however, when I try to open my project using this edited .pjc file and my restored files, I get an error: "An error happened when opening the data tables".
This is what I found in _OpenPRJ:
    09-12-15, 16:08:13 >Open project c:\Users\Valerie\Documents\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects\VALERIE SMITH__.PJC
    09-12-15, 16:08:13 >Found c:\Users\Valerie\Documents\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects\VALERIE SMITH__.UPD... deleting all indexes
    09-12-15, 16:08:14 >ERR. File c:\Users\Valerie\Documents\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects\VALERIE SMITH_ND.dbf not open
This ND file exists in my directory with the rest of my data files.
In my next post I will try to attach the .pjc and ND files so you can look at them.
Would it be possible for you to give some direction to fix this so I can continue my genealogy research? I would be very, very grateful!

  3. My question is -- where are the pjc files stored on a Windows 7 computer? If I don't have it backed up, is there anyway for me to regenerate it using the .dbf files? If I copy the old pjc files from my old XP computer backup, and place them in the new Projects folder, will there be problem? Help!! If anything is confusing please ask and I will try to clarify.

The .pjc file is in the same folder with the remainder of the project files and should be backed up when the project is backed up.

I'm assuming that your projects are all at the TMG v7.04 level.

Your project files should be located in the Projects folder or in subfolders under the Projects folder.

    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\The Master Genealogist v7

You can copy the Sample__.pjc file from the Sample folder under the TMG program folder to where the Sample project files are located under your user data tree (as above).

You can copy the .PJC file from the latest backup of each of your other projects to where the remainder of the project files are located under your user data tree.

You need to make TMG backups and adopt a reliable method of storing those backups so that you don't get into this situation again. A TMG project is a collection of files and all of those files need to be backed up together and restored together. Any other practice is a quick way to lose your data.

  4. I have been running tmg 7 for a couple of years now, and have been backing it up using Mozyhome. In January 2010 I got a new Windows 7 computer and was able to successfully transfer my tmg data to that computer and continue my research. Late last month I had a failure on the new computer and after trying everything advised by Dell and Microsoft it appears I will have to revert to my factory settings. Prior to doing that, I am using another Windows 7 computer to confirm that my tmg restore will be successful.

On Mozyhome I have a backup of c/users/myname/documents/The Master Genealogist v7. Within that folder there are seven folders, including

Exhibits, Log and Projects. Within Projects there are many .dbf files for my two projects Perrat and Valerie Smith (total 59). There is no .pjc file in that folder. There is also a Sample folder containing dbf files, again with no .pjc.

I still have access to the backup of the old computer, and the two missing .pjc files are on the old backup, however that backup is from January 2010 and I have added lots of data to tmg on my new computer since then.

  5. What is the path for the report? i.e. where are you sending it to be stored?

I have Windows 2007 with Office 2007 and am trying to save the report to c:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Report_output\v.doc. I get the same error "conversion error #14: could not create destination file". Any ideas?
