  1. TMG Used to Be Fun

Hi Everyone, Virginia, I have reduced the file name of my project to a single name. with 12 letters. My last effort to do a backup, TMG said the program was running somewhere else. I am going to retry and see what it does today. John
  2. error message 482 REINDEX DATASETS

Hi, Well, I have reformatted my hard drive and am now in the process of rebuilding my software and data for all programs. I will keep this link informed as to how things are now going as I try to add to my TMG data.
  3. error message 482 REINDEX DATASETS

I have tried several differ approaches to this problem. I am STILL experiencing the problem. My next step is to prepare to format my hard drive!
  4. error message 482 REINDEX DATASETS

Hi Virginia, In answer to your questions, I have not tried Optimize when offline, nor with other programs closed. My virus program is McAfee and it was running. Also, I have experienced the problem when I delete a person. Just after deleting, on occasion, I will run Reindex first, then Optimize and hold my breath. I would like to be able to say, doing that sequence all the time everything works OK. But not always. If I do make any entries to my database, I will add three of four things, than run Reindex and Optimize and hope for the best. If I am successful, I will run a backup! My exhibits are all external. They have been that way from day one of TMG, way back. My thoughts of reformatting stems from "just maybe" there is "something" on my computer causing the issue. Maybe something from a prior program.
  5. error message 482 REINDEX DATASETS

I am very close to reformatting my hard drive and reloading all my programs again to see if this problem disappears...
  6. error message 482 REINDEX DATASETS

Hi, I will repeat, I am having similar issues. I make additions to my dataset, only to lose all that was entered. It has finally reached a point that I will be doing very little adds till I hear the problem is fixed. It gets very frustrating to do work through the day, just to have to go back to whatever day was the good backup! John Van Dyke Brewer, Maine
  7. error message 482 REINDEX DATASETS

Hi Everyone, I have been having similar problems, to include if I delete a person and try running Optimize, etc. It has gotten to the point to where I have gone back to using ver. 8.1. However, the problem is still there. My solution(???), at least for the time being, is, add a few things, run the optimize, verify, run a (hopefully good) backup, then work a few more entries. I probably run, maybe three to four backups per day. It is the best approach since it is not pleasant to see, ABORT, RETRY, CANCEL only to know all the prior work was lost!
  8. Problem with Optimize

Hi, When I try to run "Optimize", it starts until it gets to "Event File". At that point I get "File 'c:\...\the master genealogist v9\projects\my van dyke-smith project_dbf' does not exist". 482 REINDEXDATASETS. Then I have the choice of "Abort", "Retry" and "Ignore". If this is telling me my current data is corrupt, how will I know how far back will I have to go to get a good backup? Thanks, In Advance, John Brewer, Maine
  9. Problem Creating a Journal

Hi, I am having a problem creating a journal. As I go through the steps to create a journal, it starts then I gets "File access is denied c:\users\john\appdata\local\temp\3674299_dsubj.dbf. At this point there are two select boxes; "Cancel" and "Ignore". If I select "Ignore" the box returns. If I select "Cancel" TMG wants to close. Upon closing, another box appears "unknown member ROPROTECTMAN". Then another Open box appears wanting me to enter a file name with a dbf extension. I then have to go to the Task Manger to force close TMG. Am I doing something wrong? John Van Dyke Brewer, Maine
  10. MY VAN DYKE-SMITH PROJECT_PROJECT_ND.dbf not found

Hi Jim, I was afraid that was the answer... :-(
  11. Deleting All Tasks

Hi Everyone, Is there a way to DELETE all tasks at one time? Thanks, John Brewer, Maine
  12. Problem Running Backup

Hi, I am running TMG Version 8.04.00. When I try to run Backup I get a message, "Insufficient Stack Space". I then have to go to Task Manager to close the program. Are there any suggestions of what my problem might be? Thanks, John Van Dyke Brewer Maine
  13. Problem Running Backup

Hi Virginia Doing a backup WITHOUT the exhibits worked.... Thanks, John
  14. Problem Running Backup

Hi, That would be great, unfortunately, Wholly Genes web site for upgrade says this: "Upgrading users should backup their data in their current program and be prepared to restore it to the new version. :-(
  15. "Add Person Type" screen

Hi, I seem to be having a problem with this screen. I can not pinpoint what event seems to cause the issue. However, to explain the problem, is as follows: While working with TMG 8, I'll be doing different entries. Then, out of what appears to be a "clear blue" moment, when I select "Add Person" button, the "Add Person Type" appears with everything "greyed out" except for the "Unrelated", "New Family", "Cancel" and "Help" button. Now, if I select the "Cancel" button, change the name in the Details, I select "Add Person", everything is selectable. If I go back to the first person I had problem with, the same "greyed out" exists. Now, if I close the program and reopen it, the problem goes away, for awhile. Maybe, someone may have a fix or answer to this. John Van Dyke Brewer, Maine
  16. TMG Not Responding

Hi, I find I have some sort of same problem. I will be working along, entering data, adding people's names, etc. Then, all of a sudden, when I go to add another person's name; I click on "Add New Person" button, and when "Add New Person Type" screen appears, All is Greyed out. Now, if I switch, from one parent to the other, and try again, I can enter the new person. However, to get back to "normal" entry again, I have to close the program and restart it.
