  1. Location Mapping

I thought TMG 8 was going to return latitude and longitude data from map search results that would then be saved with a place name. What TMG 8 seems to be providing is just simple location searches using online mapping tools launched from TMG. Am I missing something?
  2. Name Variations

Glad you think it is an interesting idea. Jim's response was literally, "No. You cannot create a name tag from withing an event Tag Entry screen." He never answered the only direct question that I asked, which was, "Is there an easier way?" I recognized that he might have missed that question, so I restated it. He then treated me like I was stupid, saying, "No, as I stated above." Michael Hannah answered the question. Thanks Michael.
  3. Name Variations

Actually, you just answered the first question, "no." You never answered the second question. I typically expect a little bit more help from moderators, especially for new users. Just let me know now if this forum is only to be used by experienced TMG users that do not try the patience of other experienced TMG users.
  4. Name Variations

Jim, In order to reference a name variation that is used in the source citation associated with a given tag entry, it appears that I would have to exit the tag entry, go to the person details for the principal or witness to whom the name variation applies, create a name variation tag entry for the new name variation, and then reopen the original tag entry, and select the name variation that I just created for that principal or witness. I am new to TMG. I'm just wondering if there is an easier way of doing this in the program. Lee
  5. Location Mapping

Lee, the lat/long values are easily obtained from the map search by place name eg google maps by place name right click on the resulting balloon over the place select the What's here menu option then copy/paste the lat/long values that are shown into your place field Thank you Lorna.
  6. Hello. I'm new to the forums. I'm trying out TMG 8. I am hopeful that it will do some things I have been looking for. I like the capabilities provided with Event and Role Sentences. The codes are the most extensive I've seen in any genealogy software. The capability to parse memo entries with the "||" in order to have different data in the memo appear in different locations in a sentence is also very helpful. I've been trying to figure out how to turn on these sentences in Family Group Sheets. Is it possible? If so, then how is it done? I've been trying to figure out how to get Citation Details and Citation Memos to print in footnotes and endnotes. I found that the sentence structure for a source citation is set up in the Source Definition window on the Output Form tab. However, when I add [CD] or [CM] to a sentence, the Citation Detail and the Citation Memo still do not print in a footnote or endnote, even with footnotes or endotes turned on in the report. What do I need to do to get this to work? Thanks in advance for any help.
  7. Use of Sentences in Reports

Would have been nice to have the option to use event and role sentences rather than standard event listings in reports other than just narratives. Printing standard event listings in things like Family Group Sheets looks odd when event memos are set up to support a customized sentence. I think the reason why I could not get the citation details and citation memo to show up before was that I did not select "Off" or "On - Requires same source and [CD]" for my Ibid option.
