  1. TMG Install with windows 7

Your computer's hardware no longer needs to support virtualisation to use "Windows XP Mode" Microsoft has updated Windows Virtual PC with a third Windows XP Mode update that removes this requirement. Official announcement from the "Windows 7 Team Blog - The Windows Blog:" Windows XP Mode now accessible to more PCs
  2. For XML export you may want to look at modifying/updating (if you can program?) tmg2gramps which converts TMG 6 datafiles to a GRAMPS v2.2.6 XML. So that it can handle TMG 7 & 8 data export. You can also find a "database schema document" for the TMG 6 format on the same website.
  3. Hi Kaye, From your message I gather you mean Word 2007? Generally older versions of programs can not open newer programs data files unless the data file has been converted in some way to the older format. One way for for people using older Word to open newer/older formats is for them to try the Word 97/2000 Converter for Word 6 and 95 Users or similar type of program from Microsofts website. My recommendation are to save as a PDF document. Or you can try to save the file in Word 2007 as a old a file version of Word (select "save as" then select from the "save as type" drop box the file format you want.) Yes, there is a Word 7 which was also called Microsoft Word 95 it was included in MS-Office 95, I still have it installed on my old laptop with a lot of research files in that format and earlier!
  4. More TMG on a MAC questions

Yes, you need another program to use TMG on a MAC, your choices include *Parallels Desktop for Mac *VMware Fusion *Wine Bottler(free) or its commercial counterpart CrossOver Mac Also have a look at the following discussion Edit: added link to VMware Fusion
  5. snow leopard, crossover 8 and tmg7

You may also want to look at the following links 1 2. 3 for additional help.
  6. Most likely you will need to download the complete installation file from http://www.whollygenes.com/files/tmg7setup.exe to install on the new laptop. Then you need to restore your TMG Data backup ( sqz ) file you made.
  7. Read Wholly Genes Newsletter, 25 November 2009, Issue 2009, Number 10 which mentions a "public demonstration of The Master Genealogist v8" by Bob. Exciting times.
  8. TMG v8 Preview can be seen at http://www.whollygenes.com/tmg8preview.htm as per per Bob Velke's Statement on Rootsweb.
  9. Brief Details of the public demonstration from one of the attendees Fran Segall In summary: * No release date has been given by Bob Velke. "It'll be released when it's ready" 1. Ability to customize the columns displayed in the Person View. 2. Able to accent specific tag types. 3. Add multiple people of the same type via a spreadsheet format. 4. Able to edit the tag type from the right-click menu. 5. The associates window will be able to display the person's name as selected in that tag, rather than just the primary name. 6. The Report Writer, has been upgraded to supporting 64-bit operating systems -- At the moment no feature list or screen shots have been posted on the whollygenes company's web site as mentioned in the newsletter (But Bob is Busy at work as he mentions here)
  10. TMG Install with windows 7

Also your PC's CPU needs to support "AMD-V or Intel VT" to to run Windows 7 Virtual PC Which you can check by going here and downloading the "Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool" This is no longer true. Microsoft has updated Windows Virtual PC with a third Windows XP Mode update that removes this requirement. Official announcement from the "Windows 7 Team Blog - The Windows Blog:" Windows XP Mode now accessible to more PCs
  11. I suggest you have a look at SmartGenealogy as it can convert information from a spreadsheet and convert it to the GEDCOM format to be imported into TMG.
  12. TMG v6.12 v Windows Vista

Hi Val, Here are the links * TMG v6.12 USA installer * TMG v6.12 UK installer You can use you existing TMG 6.12 License/Serial number (If you don't have it just contact Whollygenes support via email support@whollygenes.com or call the Wholly Genes office and they will resend you your unlock info.) Here are the notes about TMG 6.12 and Vista http://www.whollygenes.com/files/tmg6andwinvista.pdf
  13. Version 8?

I like to believe Whollygenes are working quietly in the background. Based on their great past efforts, having supported and grown TMG through many upgrades and versions of foxpro 2 to MS-VFP 9, starting in the DOS days right to present day working under the most current "Microsoft Windows 7" Operating systems. For now we can only go by Bob Velke's statement "We are not prepared to make any announcement at this time regarding future migration " (21 Jan 2009) Lets keep on wishing for an incrementally better TMG
  14. Version 8?

Found an interesting project, called Guineu The FoxPro runtime. Guineu list one of it's features as allowing the use of unicode you can see an example here of Unicode on Foxpro not sure if TMG could use it? Guineu describes itself as a runtime executable for desktop applications. It runs on Windows using the Microsoft .NET Framework and on multiple other platforms with Mono (eg Linux). Guineu.EXE is a console application that covers text-based applications as well as form-based applications. It also creates executables for mobile applications and say it runs on Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile.
  15. Data Exchange

Another option, if you both have a reliable and faster internet connection is to use Remote Desktop Software . This would mean one of you hosting TMG on your machine (preferably a third machine solely for that purpose) and both of you coordinating times to edit the same database. I am not sure you could be both editing the tmg database at the same time.
  16. You may want to try VMware to carry a complete windows xp install and tmg on your portable drive.
  17. Exhibit sources

Another idea is to use a service like Webcite to produce an archived version of the webpage/image location.
  18. Darryl, Contact Whollygenes support for help on your issue with version 4.0d. What features are missing?
  19. Version 8?

    You mean like Esperanto ?
  20. Hi Joan, Yes I use Virtual Box running TMG7 in winxp under WinVista! (Not linux) and it works so I believe it would under Linux also (Previously I was using VMWARE which works just as well) I like that fact that I can keep a whole virtual pc for my genealogy stuff and backup and move quickly to better/faster pc's as needed without re-installing from scratch each time. Sam
  21. Minor correction the GEDCOM article on wikipedia refers to an email from Bill Harden who was the GEDCOM Product manger. Bill states that the LDS Church choose to create the standard from the beginning as a defacto standard.
  22. Relative Path Statements

This sounds like a great idea but not too sure how it would be applied to tmg. Doug Hennig talks about relative paths in visual fox pro in his blog Replacement for SYS(2014): which is a little beyond me, but here as a reference.
  23. Version 8?

Apart from Bob mentioning that whollygenes are working on version v8 and that it will include the following fixes, [TMG] TMG v7.04 is now available! "The Master Genealogist v7.04.0000 is now available. We're working on TMG v8, including a fix to the word processor and HTML output problem under the 64-bit version of Windows Vista (the problem does not apply to the more common 32-bit version of Vista)"
  24. Observation of a minor issue that does not seem to impact back up. The progress bars in TMG7.04 's "Backup Wizard" is not showing the correct progress. The top bar showing a single files progress looks to always be full and the bottom bar representing total progress, never seems to progress. On the issue of backups is there anyway of identifying what version of tmg (minor or other wise) the backup came from. If not would it be possible to request that when the backup is saved by tmg a text file is included in the root of the archive containing information that would aid with identification eg: tmg version number, summary information from the preferences box.
  25. Having just reinstalled, I went to print a report and instead of TMG 7 picking up the printer defaults for my Country(Australia in the windows settings). TMG7 shows Letter instead of A4 and Inches instead of Centimeters (CM)? Does anyone else see this?
