Vmware, works well for me. It does need a computer with a fair bit of speed and memory. The convenience of using Vmware is that it allows me to setup an environment just for maintaining my genealogy software and not having to worry that an install of another program or a virus etc will damage my setup. The version of Win XP has been customized to be as small as possible using LitePC's XPlite to strip out what I don't need.

What version of Wine are you using and have you seen the following: TMG Entry for Wine I personally use Vmware.

Wishlist - UNICODE - Everyone Charts

A quick look thru the developer community blogs for VFP ( http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~BlogWatch~People ) show that while Visual FoxPro may no longer be developed by Microsoft, many interesting developments seem to be occurring from the legions of developers not willing to let go of VFP without a fight. For example: 1. http://www.codeplex.com/VFPX - which is a community effort to create open source add-ons for Visual FoxPro 9.0. (shows that vfp is being improved even without microsoft) 2. http://weblogs.foxite.com/bernardbout/ Talks about true multi threading with VFP (from my understanding this may help with multicore cpu's and speed up vfp) While I could find no mention of supporting unicode I believe it to be very heartening that vfp has as great a community behind it as TMG. Hope fully this will be able to benefit TMG in the future. -- Sam -
Also see here "TMG Release History" on the following page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:The_Master_Genealogist Just noticed that the main article of tmg links to one on Bob Velke

GedStarPro and Pocket Genealogists
sam.m replied to foxfiremn's topic in Older Products and Versions
Dean I use GedStar Pro on my Palm Treo 680 Mobile Phone which I can not do without, so I can do genealogy on the run, without having to wait for a notebook to start up! I use the voice record function of the treo to make short note's so I can update the main tmg database later. Sam -
On TMG-L Mailing list I saw the same thing mentioned and Edward tells Nathan to Reinstall the application due to an early download of 7.01 see: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/r...8-05/1210076715 Edward Downloaded again and then reinstalled TMG now works Thank you Nathan --- "Edward A. Ok I see what you mean now. For reference: wikipedia's entry on Entity-relationship model You could always make your own based on the information provided.

Do you mean the database filestructure? If so Bob Velke has the following tmgfstr.zip . It describes TMG file structure as of version 3.6. Keep in mind that the the current version is at 7.0, but I believe basic structure hasn't changed very much. Does anyone know if there is a more current file?

John, Thanks for detailed answer. I appreciate and believe I can see what you mean.

Hi John, I am not a programmer. Can you say why it is impractical from a programming point of view? Also what would you do as a programmer to have tmg handle Unicode? What would be a trade off or a possible solution that could be programmed and handled by tmg. How about just the memo fields using this method to at least preserve the original data from UTF-8 GEDCOMS?

unexpected codes in journal reports (FHELVSS)
sam.m replied to tlc's topic in Older Products and Versions
Worked out that the error is referring to the "helvss75.ttf" file -
Yes this would make tmg a lot easier to use. I currently open multiple versions of the project so I can view the source etc..

unexpected codes in journal reports (FHELVSS)
sam.m replied to tlc's topic in Older Products and Versions
I believe it may be related to the following. I am not sure where to get the font in question? http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/TMG/2000-07/0963533039 > You're missing the font that creates the supscript referencing the > footnotes. The missing font is on your TMG CD - one of two on the CD, I > recall. Its name is FHELVSS75.TTF. (They have a ttf extention on their > name) You need to add the missing font to your fonts on your computer. > Then, instead of FHELVSS75 you'll have a nice little number. -

where is version 6.12 to download from the web
sam.m replied to rhmorales's topic in Older Products and Versions
See here down the bottom of the page "Patch File Archive" http://www.whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merch...screen=UPGRADES or for the last TMG Gold (U.S.) Edition use: http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/186606-...xx612update.exe -
Not sure but the following seems like a possible solution for making TMG unicode compliant without having to rewrite tmg from scratch. I am not a programmer, but I do realise that this is just one possible part of converting tmg to unicode. Heres hoping.

TMG & Windows appearance options
sam.m replied to whittoncarolyn's topic in Older Products and Versions
Have you gone into TMG7's preferences (Program Options > Colors) and changed the Lists section and also looked at (Current Project Options > Colors)? And maybe increase the font sizes to help with legabilty. -
Bill, I agree, I have left a message with the same related wishlist/issue as I was expecting that with the new method of windows resizing, increasing the size of the window would display more information. http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...?showtopic=9057
