  1. Reformat text

Try Notepad++ ( http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net ) Copy your text into notepad++ and from the menu bar select "TextFX" and have a look thru the choices ( I suggest trying "TextFX Characters/Zap all non printable characters to #" and doing a search and replace on the #) Then copy the result to the memo field
  2. Apple Computer considerations

No whollygenes does not have an Apple Version. Helped two people set up a virtual pc copy of windows xp on the Apple computer using Parallels Program http://www.parallels.com/ and then installed all the regular windows programs including The Master Genealogist program and it works well. One of them has since switched to an Apple genealogy program not sure which one? ( http://www.macgenealogy.org/ )
  3. Clearing Title Field

You can use TMG Utility http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/ look under : +functions +Names +Change Name Parts The following example deletes every thing in the title field In the filters section: select "set rules.." for the "filter" select "if title" "equal to" then enter what you want to match in the next box [or] or you select "is not empty" so every title field with something in it is changed. then select "add filter" then in the actions section: select "change title" select "set to" then leave the next box empty then select "add action" then select ok to run the filter select "change name parts" button and check the log to see what the result could look like if it is what you want the result to look like then untick the "log only" at the bottom of the form and re-run the filter. (I suggest you backup your database before trying this)
  4. Yes unicode is possible in Visual FoxPro 9 but programming it may be very difficult. For the more technical you can read about it here: http://www.west-wind.com/presentations/fox.../foxunicode.asp "Using Unicode in Visual FoxPro Web and Desktop Applications" ... Summary Using Unicode in Visual FoxPro is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you are lucky and you can get away with using a single locale specific Unicode language, Visual FoxPro’s code page translation mechanism can get you reasonable language capabilities in your application without too much extra work. Problems don’t arise until you have more than one language involved. .... It’s a shame VFP doesn’t have better support for Unicode. .... Whollygenes may have to change to a new database backend, which probably means starting over! Or building a bridge to a new database? Lets hope.
  5. hmm only talking about the program title bars working like Microsoft Office or Firefox so that it displays information about the person display in the title bar. Nothing else
  6. Great work on the New release of TMG 7 and Happy New year to all. Need some help with issues on Language screens. Installed TMG 7 and find that when switching to a newly imported language tmg7 gave the following errors --------------------------- The Master Genealogist --------------------------- Syntax error. 90 MAIN --------------------------- Abort Retry Ignore --------------------------- after selecting "abort" and then selecting the Family tab, the following errors occured. --------------------------- The Master Genealogist --------------------------- Menu has not been defined with DEFINE POPUP. 17 CUSBOOKMARKMANAGER.MUPDATELRUMENU --------------------------- Abort Retry Ignore --------------------------- --------------------------- The Master Genealogist --------------------------- Menu has not been defined with DEFINE POPUP. 43 CUSBOOKMARKMANAGER.MUPDATELRUMENU --------------------------- Abort Retry Ignore --------------------------- when restarting tmg7 the language goes back to the english(USA). Tried again and this time selected "ignore" and the following error comes up --------------------------- The Master Genealogist --------------------------- Syntax error. 128 MAIN --------------------------- Abort Retry Ignore --------------------------- along with about 20 similar errors. -------------------------------------- Tried to import a newly created language (different to above) and received the following error --------------------------- The Master Genealogist --------------------------- Data type mismatch. 65 IMPORTLANGUAGE --------------------------- Abort Retry Ignore --------------------------- selected ignore --------------------------- The Master Genealogist --------------------------- Syntax error. 210 MAIN --------------------------- Abort Retry Ignore --------------------------- along with about 20 similar errors. then comes up with the following errors --------------------------- Program Error Cancel Suspend Ignore Help Syntax error. --------------------------- select ignore to receive the next error --------------------------- sample__.pjc - The Master Genealogist OK Help Array dimensions are invalid. --------------------------- selecting ok shows the text file menu at the top of the screen and while the menu seems to respond (no greyed out choices) you can not exit the program and need to use the task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) to exit I am using Windows XP SP2 Any help appreciated Re-installed tmg and most of the errors went away!
  7. Re-installed tmg and the majority of the errors above have gone: Imported the "Number3" Language cNumber4.zip Now when switching to the "Number3" language I only receive the following error -------------- Program Error Cancel Suspend Ignore Help Syntax error. ---------------- Which goes away after selecting ignore 10 or so times. I looked in the error log under (D:\The Master Genealogist v7\Logs\error.txt) and no error is list (file is blank!) Also when closing a form I receive the following two errors Syntax error. 45 MYFORM.RELEASE Syntax error. 53 MYFORM.RELEASE Which I ignore. But would like to fix, any ideas?
  8. Created a new project in tmg7. Go into the Language edit screen for English2 and find that the same translation strings are repeated 3 to 4 times each except some seem truncated tmg7 language edit screen In tmg6 the strings only show once in new projects tmg6 language edit screen Can some one confirm this by creating a new project and having a look please. Thankyou
  9. Language Issue

Re-installed TMG and everything seems a lot better
  10. Different projects open on different people and sometimes the same person but on a different details tab (the detail tab is a problem as you can not have two details windows open at the same time eg: Person and Tree within the same instance) I do use the Focus Group where possible. Example of what multiple open tmg's look like from the tool bar Difficult to see which person to select. Would like it to be more in line with say Microsoft Office.
  11. Thank you currently using this method. I was expecting with the new method of windows resizing, that when I increase the size of the window more information would display. Two good examples are Microsoft Office and Firefox so it is very possible Visual Fox Pro is very capable of this see: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/y...hww(VS.71).aspx http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/w...x68(VS.80).aspx
  12. Terry, The language was exported from tmg7's strings.dbf file. It is a custom language to help translate the interface and reports to Italian (Used this method last in tmg5 before losing my translated file in an install overwrite! Time to start again!) Converted dbf to ms-access2003 and exported to ms-excel. In ms-excel a number and minus sign ( "xxxx-") is added to the front of the language string and then saved to a dbf file. cNumber3_xls.zip (ms-excel file) cNumber3.zip (saved dbf file) Import the new dbf using the language import function in tmg7 Switch to the new language "Numbers3" and the result looks like this (Numbers3 language) This helps identify the context of the language string and where it appears in the interface. The errors start occuring when you switch to this language. Thanks Sam
  13. Language Issue

This was on a brand new tmg7 project.
  14. I currently have Vmware installed and have setup a virtual machine with just win xp and my genealogy applications. Works quite well as TMG currently is quite unfriendly as a portable application. And carry this file on my external hardrive. Which means I only have to install vmware on the host machine.
  15. Importing Excel Files

Pat, Can you paste a couple of example lines of the data and a description.
  16. also see the following thread http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...ic=7115&hl=
  17. TMG & Excel files

Even better see if you can use the following to convert your excel file: http://rmhh.co.uk/legacy.html
  18. TMG & Excel files

I suggest that you may be able to convert a the Excel file to a GEDCOM and then import the file in to TMG. Have a look at the following website:"http://www.tedpack.org/text2ged.html" for a possible solution.
  19. Wish List

This would be great to have.
  20. Can someone check this please. I created a "List of Event Reports" and trying to create a CSV report including the my custom Flags eg: PATERNAL_ADDRESS#1 I label the output column Heading to "Prin1 PATERNAL_ADDRESS#1 Flag" and output column width of 30 character. When I view the output of the CSV the Flag columns is truncated to 10 characters and shows a different outputs name eg:in this case as "prin1pater". Any Ideas? Thankyou Sam
  21. Jim, The labels I requested to be output are not? Why? Experimenting I see it affects all "heading" column labels for output to csv and limits you to 10 characters, the label you choose is ignored and changed according to some undisplayed rules, some examples: - The default label of "Addressee" with a capital "A", outputs as "addressee" with a lower case "A" - I create a label of "Print_My_informative_Label_please" and it outputs "printmyinf" changing case and if any label is identical for the first 10 characters it makes the 10th character a number Can someone check this please?
  22. While using TMG, I have multiple(10-15) people opened, and each of the program title bars are identical for example "Main.PJC - The Master Genealogist". While this helps me choose the correct database, this makes it difficult to work out which instance I need to view with out selecting each individual and checking! I would like to know if I can make TMG Display the current person's details in Title Bar of Program for example "John Doe (1324) (1845 - 1890) : Main.PJC - The Master Genealogist" . This would improve TMG's already great useability. Any one? or should this be sent to support?
