  1. Frequently, after entering data, I copy the exhibits used, and a backup of the database, to my laptop, where I do a restore. However, when I run Validate File Integrity, there are always a few exhibits that cannot be found. Those exhibits ARE in the location designated. I even specified the folder to look into while doing the Integrity check. The first time this happened, only one exhibit could not be found, the last time, there were ten. These exhibits are not necessarily the latest ones added. Any idea what is happening and how I can avoid reentering the exhibits on my laptop? I might add, that all exhibits are accounted for on my main computer.
  2. Exhibits not being found

I agree and I can find no reason for this to happen. I have over 600 exhibits. My environment on the laptop and desktop are identical. Paths and file locations are the same. I copy the exhibits and backups between the two via the cloud (but I do not backup to the cloud). The exhibits affected are not the newer ones and have been found before. Very perplexing.
  3. Loss of alert sounds

Using 9.05 with windows 10 creators All of a sudden, i lost sound with my TMG alerts and prompts. One day I had sound, the next I did not. Is there a setting within TMG that controls sound, or is this a windows problem? Thanks.
  4. Loss of alert sounds

    Thanks
  5. Loss of alert sounds

I was afraid of that. Perplexing because I as rule do not mess with wndows settings. Grasping at straws here-could a file be corrupted and therefore doing a repair would work?
  6. Is there a way to produce a list of people that have only 1 specific source cites. I want to identify people whose only source is an old family chart. Thanks
  7. List of people Source report

Thanks Michael, this is what I needed.
  8. List of people Source report

They will be to other tags, primarily B, M, and/or D, since that was basically the only data on the chart, if that. Sometime the chart listed only a name, or partial name. During normal research where I was concentrating on individuals, I found many errors on this source (wrong name, wrong sex, etc) so I thought I would concentrate on the people I had not gotten to yet that only had this one source cited. Given this source, I believe I gave a surety of 0, for this source only, if that helps.
  9. I have pictures of several houses that my families of my ancestors have lived in almost a revolving door situation. I would like to associate the house with the occupants in the correct time period. What is the best way to associate the house with each family, short of adding the house multiples times, once for each record?
  10. Handling photo of houses as exhibits

Here is where I cause a lot users to shake their heads. I am the only member of my family interested in genealogy. Therefore, i am using TMG to document my ancestors, with no plans to publish or share. All sources I cite, wherever possible, I include as an exhibit. That way, if for some reason my citations are lacking, there is a exhibit as reference. I doubt I will ever get to the point where my data is sufficiently complete to even want to publish, whatever form that may take. However, if I do, then I will undertake whatever work needs to be done to accomplish that. I have second site and have played with it. At this point, I doing this for self gratification and education about my ancestors and not for posterity. Hopefully, one of my children will express an interest to an extent that causes me to change and do things 'the best' way, but it is unlikely.
  11. Handling photo of houses as exhibits

Intriguing. How do you distinguish one exhibit from another? EX: For my census tag, I created a tag for each census (1900CEN, 1910CEN, etc) and I attach a copy of the appropriate census register page as an exhibit. Is this how you do it?
  12. Started using FindAGrave source template and have gotten the following 'warning' messages overtime I access it: Full Footnote Unrecognized Command [Camera Crew] Full Footnote Unrecognized Source Element: [Online viewing Date] Full Footnote Unrecognized Source Element [source Number]. My full footnote is:: [NAME OF PERSON], Tombstone Record<. Submitted to FindaGrave.com by [CAMERA CREW]>< [DATE]><. Viewed online on [ONLINE VIEWING DATE]><. Located online at [REPOSITORY INFO]><, [CD]><. Hereinafter cited as [sHORT TITLE]>: Tombstone Image<, [sOURCE NUMBER]>. How can I get these elements recognized? Thanks
  13. Find a Grave Source Warning messages

    Thanks Terry.
  14. Handling photo of houses as exhibits

Thanks for tips. I like Jim"s idea about attaching to the resident tag.
  15. Family Tag

I have a source that lists two generations of a family, complete with B, D dates and spouses. I would like to cite this source one time wit the head of the family and link it to the remaining members. Will the Family tag do this?
  16. Family Tag

Yes, you are right, I create the source and cite it for the tag, then attach the doc as an exhibit to the tag. I was thinking faster than I was typing. I have no idea where th 'Family' tag came from. This is not the first time I found oddities with my tags. Awhile back, this forum made reference to tags I did not have (of course I can't remember which ones).
  17. Family Tag

Unless the family tag is part of Mills, I don't know where it came from. I did not create it. In terms of how I would use it is like you describe. Adding the tag to the most distant ancestor listed on the document, then add the family members as witnesses with appropriate roles, I.e., son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, etc. Then attach the document to the tag as an exhibit.
  18. Handling photo of houses as exhibits

Jim replied: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Use a Residence tag. Link the occupants and the image to the tag. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks JIm. I tried that first and it wouldn't let me BUT after your reply I tried again and it worked. BTW: I got your email notice but for some reason your reply did not show up in the forum.
  19. Place styles

I have ancestors (fortunately not that many) who immigrated from Germany. Up to now I have been using US place styles to enter the their origins, making assumptions about what is the city, county, etc. Is their another Place style better to use and if so, where do I find it? Or, how do others handle this situation? Thanks
  20. Place styles

    Thanks Michael
  21. Place styles

    Thanks, Jim
  22. I am trying to print a wall chart to take to a printing shop. I followed the directions pinned above (Print large charts to PDF by Virginia) exactly, even downloading and installing PDF Creator. I get several pages of chart instead of one big page. The chart I am testing on is only 27.6979 x 15.4583. I setting the page options to 200 x 200; 200 x 59, and 35 x 25 and still get a multiple page chart. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
  23. Repositories

I just received a book detailing my ancestors immigration. How do I enter it into Repository? Do I list it as being in my home? Thanks.
  24. TMG v9.5 Tried accessing help in vcf and got an error. I vaguely recall that there was a problem with vcf help in v9 and that there was a file I could download. If so, where can I find it? If not, how,can I access help?
  25. Vcf help file

Jim I found only one help file and it does not open. I get an error saying the help file is not supported. And there was no VCF file with the CHM extension. Never mind. Clicking while in the folder and desk top did not work. Clicking clicking from the start menu where I had pinned it did. Go figure.
