  1. Backing up to iCloud for windows

For clarification, I was talking about using TMG backup when backing up to iCloud then restoring from there on my laptop. Does this change anything?
  2. I would like to print a JPG descendant box chart for each one of my four lines, one of which may be large When I try this, however, I get an error that VCF has stopped working and I need to close the program. I don't need anything fancy, just a visual image of my lines. Any tips or hints? Thanks
  3. Printing to JPG

Update: VCF is working now. I upgraded to a more powerful Mac and I am now happily using VCF.
  4. I am trying to create a descendant box chart for one of my lines, using the line flag = Y as the criteria. when the chart is displayed in VCF, the spouse is id'd as 'Unknown Person'. I know the spouse is not considered a descendant, but I would like the spouse to be identified. So far, I've gotten around this by setting their line flag from N to Y, which I do not consider ideal. How do others handle this issue? By not including the spouses? If so, how do I remove the 'unknown person' box? Thanks.
  5. Handling spouses in Descendant box chart

As usual, I made things more difficult than needed to be AND I forgot what I had done. I made the flags to accent my tag for the various DIRECT lines. Having forgotten why and how I used them, I tried to use them to generate my descendants chart. Thanks for returing me to the land of simplicity.
  6. Handling spouses in Descendant box chart

I understand now. I assumed that since the spouse box appeared in the box chart as an unknown person when their flag=N, that there was a reason why their name did appear. Is a 'focuse group' the best way to approach this issue? Which leads to a larger question: I've operated under the philosophy that a spouse is not a descendant and therefore had the flags set accordingly. Is this an appropriate position to have? What others options are available to having the spouse identified on the descendant chart without having their flag set so? Thanks.
  7. Handling spouses in Descendant box chart

I've read the manual and help topics trying to solve this problem of the spouses name not printing. How can I print then name of a descendants' spouse in my descendant box chart?
  8. Using two monitors

TMG 9.05. Maybe I am missing something. After setting my project to allow using two monitors, i still can only use one. When I try to expand the project only windows that show are the ones that stay on the original monitor. The only ones do not show on the second monitor, that just disappear until I reduce them back.
  9. Glenn Gilbert (1947-2016)

I am saddened by Glenn's death. He provided much assistance to me when I first setup TMG using parallels. He will be missed.
  10. Logging Exhibits

TMG 9.05 I just recently finished a very successful field trip gathering info on one of my lines. My question is basically can/how do I do what I want? I took pictures of the existing houses where my ancestors lived. My ancestors moved several times, but always to the same two streets, and the houses were shared and usually within a block of each other. EX: One time they lived on ann street, then moved to St. Mary's street a block away, then back to Ann Street, sometimes to a house next to the original, etc. Can I attach the pics to one of the existing residence tags so that when that address is referenced for each individual living there, that pic will be attached? Or must I attach the pics to each resident tag for that address one at a time? What is the down side of attaching the pic to a resident tag instead of the individuals? Is there a better way? I may have other questions once I open TMG up to see what tags are available for Last Wills and Testaments, but any advice in advance would be appreciated. Thanks. PS. All exhibits are and will be external.
  11. Logging Exhibits

Michael: thanks for the info. I normally do post separate topics per question, but in this instance I was responding to Terry's question as to what my output was going to be. I just happen to mention issues with second site that I was going to need addressed while actually not posting the question. Terry: the more I think about it, the more likely that my output will be on DVD using second site. Up till now, I've been entering and documenting data while consciously not working on sentences. Sadly, I am the only member of my family interested enough ancestral history, output is not as important as finding and documenting what information I can in the hopes that someone would then pick up the task. In short, my genealogical quest is for personal knowledge and satisfaction.
  12. Logging Exhibits

Thanks Terry I've not really thought about how to output my data yet. I can't think that far ahead so I'm sure a lot of what I am doing or want to do is not conducive to printed reports. I'm trying to cope (re)learning TMG. I probably would use Second Site to a DVD but I have to learn how to use that program as well. I do want to be able to show my lines separately, via a link. I remember seeing examples that do this but have not come anywhere near on figuring our how to do that.
  13. Using two monitors

Thanks Michael. I have been using two monitors exactly as you, using TMG on one and research on the second. I was just experimenting within TMG. One wonders why the 'multiple monitor ' option is even in TMG if it does not work.
  14. Residence tags

When adding residence tags for the primary subject (father), I have been assigning witness roles to other family members living at that address (wife, daughters, etc). I've noticed that when I go to the family members record, they are listed as witnesses to the father's living at the address, but are not shown as actually living there themselves, This forces me to add the resident tag for each family member living there. Is this the only way to do this, or have I been making more work for myself? Thanks
  15. Residence tags

    It does help. Thanks
  16. Residence tags

Thanks Terry. I'm uncomfortable making global changes like this but I did anyway. it seems to work the way I want.
  17. Residence tags

Is this a universal change? I made the change as suggested and it seemed to change not only all the witness tags to residence for the current person view, but changed them for all of the associated family members as well. I did not check non-associate family members, i.e., other records yet.
  18. Residence tags

I must be doing something wrong because the residence tag only appears for the principal. Here is what happens: I add a residence tag for person 1. I add his children as witnesses to the tag, family member 1 is ID'd as a daughter of principal, family member 2 as a son, etc. When I go to family member 1 and 2, person view, they are identified as witnesses to principal residing there. No residence tag appears for them.
  19. Residence tags

Jim: Thanks, was afraid of that. Terry: I wanted the person view to show the residence tag for each individual, primarily because that is how my mind works, but also I wanted the residence tag to appear on the FGS for research purposes.
  20. TMG 9.05 Is it possible to include 'residence' tags in a FGS, or to print all of the residence tags for individuals? I will be making a 'field trip' to research records associated with addresses and it would be helpful to have a list of them, by individual. Thanks
  21. Terry, Glenn, Jim, Michael I just want to share a success story that you helped write. Following your advice elsewhere on this forum, I successfully installed TMG 9.05 on my laptop after upgrading to Windows 10. Not only was the install hassle free, including the entering of the serial key (knock on wood), my problems of printing the reports has been resolved. I've yet to test visual chart form but I suspect that that issue has been resolved as well. Now comes the really big challenge: Replicating this success on my desktop. Thanks to you for your valued advice on this topic and others. Glenn: I ran into some Parallels VM anomalies during this process that may be of interest you, plus one small irritant. If interested please provide a method to contact you off line, unless people think this forum would be interested.
  22. Moving TMG to Windows 10 under Parallels

A partially premature declaration of success, regarding printing from TMG. I CAN print from my laptop, which had a fresh install of Win10 and corresponding software. I CANNOT print from my desktop, which also had a fresh install of Win10 and corresponding software. Differences between the two: More software and more printers attached to my desktop. My desktop has one printer hardwired and the other is wifi. My laptop has only the one wifi printer. Don't expect a solution since this has been an ongoing issue in this forum (although I will gladly take one). Just wanted to note this unique (from my experience) problem. Clarification: printing problem is TMG issue only.
  23. conflicting origins

How do others handle this? I have a source that states one of my ancestors was born in Ireland and I duly entered that info into TMG. Today, I cam across two other sources that state the ancestor was born in England but immigrated from Ireland. I am fairly certain that the latter two source are correct. I should note that all of the sources provide and validate other info, it is just this one item where they do not mesh. Question: Should I remove the original info? Or should I include both? Or do something different? Thanks
  24. conflicting origins

Thanks Terry. Seems preferable to deleting all the info, especially given the very slight chance it may be correct.
