  1. I have noticed in 8.06 that what appears to be a hyphen or dash is being appended to name tag sentences and custom role sentences in report screen preview. If a .rtf report is created it appears to be a D with a dash in the back. IN-EH-971.rtf If the report is sent to Word it appears that a carriage return or line feed is generated before the period. IN-EH-971.doc If the report is sent to .pdf it appears as a hyphen or dash. Name Marr tag is using default sentence. Custom role sentence is [+]<; [M]> I get the same hyphen or dash in the sample project with report defaults. Also seeing the same in Descendancy Narrative and Journal reports. IN-EH-971.pdf
  2. Importing an FTM file in .ftmm format

Seehttp://ancestry.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5313/~/family-tree-maker-file-migration-utilityThe Family Tree Maker File Migration Utility converts Family Tree Maker 2008 - 2012 PC Windows files so they can be opened on a Mac and vice versa. Please note that this application can be run only on a PC.
  3. Sounds good. It seems Parallels improves communications between the guest OS and OS-X with each upgrade.
  4. Will not start

The offending program is called Antilogger SDK and is installed as part of Comcast Security and Anti-Virus package, it installs silently in the background, even if you are not or think you are not using Comcast Constant Guard it's installed. It also has been causing problems with other programs. See http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/Antilogger-sdk/td-p/1575005
  5. If you have not had any problems than you are probably OK. If you send a report to Word and see a Conversion error #14, or no error but when you open the file it is empty and file size is 0Kb, you’ll need to set the report output back to the Windows side, likewise with exports, if you attempt an export and TMG appears to be spinning its wheels or goes not responding then you’ll also need to send exports to the Windows side. FWIW the report system in TMG 8 is completely different and I have no problems sending reports to the Mac side they open in Word 2011, I just tested a GED and Excel export to the Mac side with no problems. MacBookPro 1,1, OS X 10.6.8, Parallels 6, Win 7 Pro (32 bit), TMG 8.04
  6. Unmarried couple with child

OK, that makes things a LOT easier they probably have all the permissions, etc. setup for PhpGedView. It is a bit of a project to get all the files uploaded, database setup, and permissions set. I did a PhpGedView site before I discovered Webtrees. I haven't updated it since I set it up. IMO Second Site does much better with TMG data. You can check out my Webtrees site here: http://www.gilbert-genealogy.info/webtrees/index.php

  8. Frequent re-register (under Windows 8)

See this message thread on TMG-L http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/tmg/2012-12/1356601696 Suggest you read through all the posts on this including this one http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/tmg/2012-12/1356610132
  9. Jim The path you are showing for backup in your post does not appear to be the default Windows XP path. You show a forward slash / in one part and a black slash in another. The default path for backup folder on a WinXP installation should be C:Documents and SettingsusernameMy DocumentsThe Master Genealogist v7Backups where username is the user name of the account in your WinXP virtual machine Since it appears you don't have the correct path for the backup folder it is possible you also have the incorrect path for the project folder. The default path for project folder on WinXP should be C:Documents and SettingsusernameMy DocumentsThe Master Genealogist v7Projects Please review Restoring Projects in my article. Also don't attempt to key in paths in TMG preferences, use the browse ellipsis […] button and navigate to the folder and select it. Additionally from the path you are showing in your post it is not entirely clear that you have created a data_paths.txt file, if you have it should be located in the TMG program folder. For XP it should be C:Program FilesThe Master Genealogist v7 For a simpler approach you might want to use the method John Cardinal recommends in this post http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=13376&p=53181
  10. TMG under Linux

Just to be clear, my article does NOT cover running TMG in Windows EMULATORS. Parallels, VMWare Fusion, and VirtualBox allow the creation of a Virtual Machine in which one actually installs Windows or another operating system. A couple of years ago I tested Crossover and found there were issues that made TMG unusable, perhaps two years on Codeweavers has addressed them. http://www.whollygen...indpost&p=48095
  11. Fatal Error C0000005

Please see my article on running TMG in a Parallels virtual machine on a Mac http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=13018 Save your reports to a folder in the Windows file system may take care of the conversion error.
  12. GEDCOM export - witnesses etc.

Thanks, checked it out, performance is very good. One of the things I like about Webtrees is the statistics.
  13. GEDCOM export - witnesses etc.

Hi Helmut Would you be willing to share the URL for your Webtrees site with us? One of my thoughts when experimenting with Webtrees was to create a site where descendants of Matthew Gilbert could collaborate on building his tree but never pursued it. What would be really cool is version of Second Site that works like Webtrees.
  14. GEDCOM export - witnesses etc.

If anybody is interested I experimented with Webtrees awhile back Three sites from the same data Second Site: http://gilbert-genea...oanh/index.html Reunion 9.0b: http://gilbert-genea...union/index.htm Webtrees 1.0.2: http://gilbert-genea...hp?ctype=gedcom A page about the process: http://gilbert-genea.../otherwebs.html I have not kept the Webtrees site up-to-date; fiddling around creating a GEDCOM that works takes more time than it’s worth. The only advantage I see in Webtrees and similar products is the ability to collaborate with other researchers; users can be given different levels of access and editing abilities. A few months ago I experienced some problems with the Webtrees site, which I attributed to a broken permissions file on the server, that does not seem to be the case today, however if something is broken it will not be fixed.
  15. Remove and restore people

I don't know about the restore part, but a post within the hour on TMG-L details removing a group of people to a second dataset. http://archiver.root...2-07/1343689162 I suppose if you were to keep the second dataset rather than delete it you could merge it back in to restore the people then recreate the tag that connects them.
  16. GOTERM error message on V7.04

Barbara To avoid problems your data should be located on the Windows side C:UsersusernameDocumentsThe Master Genealogist v8Projects also all the other supporting folders/files should be on the Windows side. The only execption is exhibits, and backups, I have not had any problems with exhibits and backups located on the Mac side. VM Ware maps (assigns) Mac folders drive letters, for example your Mac Home folder may be mapped to drive Z in the Windows file system. If I tell Parallels to share my Mac hard drive with Windows, it is mapped to drive letter Z, and my home folder is mapped to drive letter Y.
  17. GOTERM error message on V7.04

Please see my article http://www.whollygen...showtopic=13018 While written for Parallels, I believe VM Ware Fusion functions in much the same way. Also while \\vmware-host\ and Z: (or other drive letter) are equivalent it has been my experience that TMG does NOT like a path starting with \\ My article explains how to fix a broken installation.
  18. Drop Box

Not Recommended Dropbox and TMG http://archiver.root...1-11/1322018903 Put a backup .sqz file in Dropbox
  19. Laura If you haven't already taken a look at the instructions I posted a few weeks ago: Printing Large Charts to .pdf you might want to check them out. If you are using Vista or Win 7 the key to getting the .pdf printer setup is doing it before you start TMG and make the chart. http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=14684&view=findpost&p=59391
  20. Variable 'PROPERTY' is not found with v8

Have you run the maintenance routines? The suggest procedure is Optimize followed by Verify File Integrity followed by Optimize. If VFI finds and fixes problems repeat VFI until it reports no problems. As for project files on flash drive, it seems to be working for you, one thing that could be a potential problem is the drive letter assigned by Windows when you insert the drive could change. Others may have more experience with projects used from a flash drive.
  21. The instructions given in the Printing Charts Section of Visual Chartform (VCF) Notes by Douglas Hill, published on the Ottawa TMG Users Group web site were written in 2008 for earlier Windows Operating Systems the instructions for setting up PDFCreator have changed for newer operating systems. To locate the original article go to the Articles and Presentations page scroll down to 2008 and locate Visual Chartform (VCF) Notes, by Douglas Hill (June 2008) The South King County Genealogical Society (SKCGS) - TMG User Group developed revised instructions for Windows 7 based on Douglas Hill's article. Update-Printing-Charts.pdf 20 May 2013 Adding a note that these instructions are written specifically for use with PDFCreator and may NOT work with other programs that create PDFs. 31 May 2014 Fixed broken text colors in 20 May 2013 edit. 23 Aug 2015 This article has not been reviewed since May 2012 your mileage may vary.
  22. Direct database access

When I attempt to use tmgFiles.exe to open a TMG Project I'm getting an error message: Unable to open table. Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed. WinXP Pro SP3, TMG 7 & 8 (TMG program files located on logical drive in path H:Program FilesThe Master Genealogist vN, project files located in default path for each version) Same result on Win7 Pro, 32 bit TMG8 program located in default path, projects located in C:UsersPublicDoucmentsThe Master Genealogist v8Projects
  23. It looks like your TMG Project files are located on the Mac side (drive Y=MacUser/Documents mapped to Windows by Parallels) I suggest you place TMG Project files on the Windows side per my article running TMG on a Mac http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=13018&view=findpost&p=51722
  24. Error message when trying to enter data

It appears from the partial path you show your TMG project files are located on the Mac side, I'd suggest you follow the recommendation in my TMG on Mac article and place them on Windows side.
