  1. new exhibit is not added

Very curious. I renamed the file to the exact same name (typed it in not cut and paste) and now TMG will add the file. If anybody has a clue as to why this happens please let me know. Thanks! Dave Proper
  2. I have hundreds of exhibits (all external) which work perfectly in TMG as well as in GedView on my iPad I just scanned a photo, a 108 MB JPG, which seems perfectly normal to all Windows 7 programs... but when I try to add the JPG to an individual nothing happens. The bottom of the add exhibit browse window shows the file name when I select it but when I click on the file it goes back to exhibit log with no picture. If I repeat the process with any other JPG file from the same folder it adds it with no problem. Very perplexing!
  3. Where did this sentence come from?

Virginia, Thanks for responding! Please see my response to Terry's response for the solution. No, I have not used the witness function at all. I know lots ot TMG users have done a lot with it but I have never seen anyway that I thought would work for me. Maybe someday... Happy Thanksgiving! Dave Proper
  4. Where did this sentence come from?

Terry, That was one of the first things that I had checked, then rechecked and rechecked but my setting was the middle option of "All Events". I finally trackedit down by making a list of every person the the sentance appeared in their report. One of them was for myself so I started investigaying further there since I only have a few tags. The cause of the problem was a cusom birth tag that I had created called "birth location". I had created the tag so that the GEDView app that I have on my iPad would have a lat/long value that that program could use. The only variable that is used there is the lat/long one and with it I can click on it and it zoom to the location in Google Earth. It is quite handy for showing someone where such snd such was born. The format used by the iPad app is the decimal form and TMG does not like that form. Anyway the custom tag exports to GEDCOM just fine nowever the problem was that I had not selected the Witness portion during the tag creation (copied from a standard birth tag). So the Witness portion assumed a default sentence and I never noticed it. It became an issue when I apparently turned on the option that you mentioned in an attempt to correct another problem. Even after turning the option off did not clear the new default sentences. I have now edited the custom tag and removed the witness sentence and the new sentence has been banished! By the way, the problem that I was trying to solve and hence switched the option was the appearence of a "On some-date blah blah blah" line for various events after the standard BMD paragraph. My style is to just have the date followed by a dash and then the event sentence. Have the "On " in there was really throwing everything off so I was trying to get rid of it. I found the solution in the TMG forums which was to place a space before the date value "< [D]> and everything was goodness. Thanks for responding and Happy Thanksgiving! Dave Proper
  5. Hello, I am using TMG 7, latest version and have never implemented any of the witness options. I must have changed something in my Journal Report specs because now I am getting a witness sentence where I did not before. It appears to be random. I have sentences like the following and don't know how to turn it off: "He was a witness (an unknown value) with Frank Trnka." In each case the named person in the principle. I have been through the Journal Report options over and over again and can not figure out how this sentence is being generated??? Dave Proper
  6. Terry, Thanks for responding. I used Karen's work around of creating a phantom child which does what I want it to. However from now I have to remember to delete the generated lines in the output! Dave P
  7. Karen, I have the same problem. One of my grand uncles never married and so his Journal Report is a single line with only his birth date and birth location noted. No census info, no notes, mostly nothing! The worst of it is that there is no practical place to insert his photo. It would be uncommonly odd to shove it into the lists of his siblings whereas all of the siblings photos are with their individual entry. It seems really odd to have to force a "carry all children forward" by creating a make believe child. Dave P
  8. I can not enter certain Czech characters specifically the r with a caron over it. Other Czech characters work OK. If I cut and paste them they end up looking like a zero with a dash through it. I have set up Czech keyboard but that doesn't work either. I found a forum thread about this: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...zech+characters and it says that it is caused by the underlying MS Foxpro database not being able to support Unicode but that was for an older version of TMG. Is this still true with version 7? Thanks Dave
