FYI I just did the following with Susan's project: - select about 10 persons in the project explorer - run a list of persons report with secondary output creating a new project (takes a few seconds) Opening the new project shows the same problem.

the problem is reproduceable on my PC wit Susan's project. But no idea yet about the reason.

Terry, if you are right, then Susan's problem might be a problem of thread synchronisation within TMG. What I mean s that one process/thread could be too fast for another one. (something like thread A is started, thread B should wait for the termination if thread A or should be informed b A. But A has already terminated before B is ready for waiting/accepting the termination message). I remember some rare cases I and some others have experienced when starting TMG where it ran into error messages (I think it was some variables not found or similar) when the project was opened automatically. It could be avoided by passing via the welcome screen and clicking Last.

Terry, this is not my experience. I have a 4-CPU system and TMG never uses more than 25 % of total CPU. It may be that it does change CPU's, but I don't think it does (or is able to) use more than one CPU at a time.

Susan, TMG (i.e. Visual Foxpro) can only use one processor. Therefor you see 12 percent of usage when TMG is running "full speed". I assume you have already run TMG's File / Maintenance / Validate File Integrity and File / Maintenance / Optimize How large is your project? Do you have a possibiity to upload a backup (without external exhibits) to the Internet (like Dropbox or similar) ?

Do you have an 8-CPU PC? Are the 12% CPU usage from TMG? This would mean that TMG is eating up one CPU by internal computing for whatever strange reason. In this case probably removing or stopping other applications like virus scanner etc. won't help.

Susan, you could try to have a look on the Task Manager during the startup of TMG. You may start it by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and select Task Manager. Dos it show heavy disk usage or CPU usage? But I am not that it helps. Because I am experiencing a similar problem with another piece of software (for specialists: Netbeans IDE and Netbeans Platform Applications), I have it installed on a desktop computer with Windows8. Since a certain point in time, the startup is extremely slow (a few minutes, which had not been the case before), When fully started, the speed seems to be normal. The task manager does not show disk traffic, no CPU usage, no errors in the Windows error log. I have the same installation (i.e. same Windows, same Netbeans, same plugins, same configuration, same virus scanner, ...) on a slower notebook. Here it starts up fast without any problem. I have not been able to find the cause yet and I am running out of ideas. One of the Windows mysteries.

Hi Michael, Your idea is working. I tried it with a slight modification: I deleted the person already in the one person project, before merging it with the target project. After merging the two datasets in the target project, the styles appear and may be used. Thanks.

Hi, In TMG 8.07 it is not possible to create (or change to) a name variant other than the default, e.g. Name/marr, Name/adopt, etc. Trying to do so gives an error message "Property RNETYPEOLD is not found." and TMG cannot be terminated any more because nearly all menu options are greyed, it has to be aborted by the task manager. Try to update to TMG 8.08. It is already available and probably the problem is fixed.

Answer from Jim Byram to a similar thread: There is a solution that you can use to make this go away. (And this also works with TMG7 and any other program that has this issue under Windows 8.) The next time that Win8 deletes the registration data... 1) Run TMG8 once as administrator (by right-clicking on the shortcut and selecting 'Run as administrator'). 2) Unlock. 3) Exit TMG. Now the registration data will no longer be deleted by the system.

Hi, Problem: If a person is added and notes for one or more of the events (birth, marriage, death) are typed already in the person add screen, these are not memorized and therefor cannot be repeated by the repeat keys This is not the case if the note is typed in the appropriate element form (opened by double-click on the birth etc).

Dave, the file permissions are ok and the files can be written to. Inputs to other fields than Memo in the Add Person form are remembered and can be repeated by F3. When a Memo is entered via the Birth Event form, it is memorized and can be repeated from the Add Person form, too. Looking at the file contents, it seems that all values (also typed in the Memo field in the Add Person screen - which cannot be repeated later) is written to Repeat.fpt. But there is no reference from Repeat.DBF to this value, therefor it cannot be repeated. This is kind of guessing because I have no documentation for the structure of (and the links between) these files, I can only see its contents by DBF editor or Hex editor.

Dave, yes, I am using German language with TMG. With the last new (clean) installation, German was selected automatically. However, When I discovered the problem, I tried to change the language to American English, but it did not help either.

Vera, it is TMG 8.06 everywhere. Machine 1: Windows 8 64-bit, updating TMG (since V6) Machine 2: Windows 8 64-bit, updating TMG, but several tries: - de-installation + installation (keeps configuration) - de-installation + delete all TMG - directories in C:Users and its subdirectories + installation Machine 3: Windows 7 64-bit, new (clean) installation The installations were always done using the default parameters (the upper selection), the OS language is German.

Hi, I just downloaded the latest trial version of TMG and installed it on a PC where TMG had never been installed before. The described problem occurs there too, using the sample project.

Michael, I tried already, no change. I uninstalled TMG and re-installed, no change.
