And remember to save the layout as a custom layout. You cannot save any changes to the Standard layout (as a new Standard layout).

Details window / Family tab The 'current' spouse is the one shown on this tab. If the spouse is the wrong one, just select the spouse whom who wish to have displayed as the 'current' spouse. That spouse will then display in the Children and Siblings windows, for example.

Printer setting in Journal reports
Jim Byram replied to Nick Shelley's topic in Older Products and Versions
Thanks, Nick. I filed a bug report. -
Printer choice won't change in indented report after upgrading to 6.12 from 6.07
Jim Byram replied to Nick Shelley's topic in Older Products and Versions
I wrote a bug topic on the issue and it will be checked. I tested printer selection from the RDS and had the first case revert from a selected printer to the Windows default printer but every test after that point worked perfectly. As has been discussed on TMG-L, this was just housekeeping on the date fields in the data tables and is not a concern. -
TMG keeps trying to instal v. 12
Jim Byram replied to Derek Baker's topic in Older Products and Versions
Check the app.ini file in the TMG program folder. This setting should be present: [PatchEngine] PatchFile=http://www.whollygenes.com/files/upgrades/tmg612.ini -
Pdf printer driver - to include images?
Jim Byram replied to Nick Shelley's topic in Older Products and Versions
Don't know the answer to that so I can't give a precise answer. The word processing library doesn't appear to support PDF output. My understanding is that the existing PDF output does not use the word processing library. -
Book Manager &/or unstable subject ID#'s in Desc Indented Narrative reports
Jim Byram replied to Nick Shelley's topic in Older Products and Versions
Book Manager does have some instabilities that are proving difficult to trace. However, under no circumstances should it actually modify the report configuration of a report being run. I've reported the issue. We might have to come back and ask you for data to replicate the issues. -
Pdf printer driver - to include images?
Jim Byram replied to Nick Shelley's topic in Older Products and Versions
It has nothing to do with the PDF driver. Image output for narrative reports is supported by the word processing library and only for reports to Word, RTF, WordPerfect and HTML. You might try outputting to RTF and see if that circumvents Word's limits. -
No. Use of the spell checker is context-specific to data fields.
-
No. By design, the Image window shows only the primary person image.

This page on the Wholly Genes web site shows the differences between the Silver and Gold editions: http://www.whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merch...en=SILVERTOGOLD As a user, I would advise getting the full-featured Gold edition. When you do the GEDCOM import, you will want to use the Advanced Import Wizard and create custom tag types for custom, non-standard and 1 EVEN 2 TYPE GEDCOM tags. Use the Advanced import wizard. On Step 7, you can adjust most custom tag types or event tags to import them as custom tags. For example... _XYZ Select this tag. Click [Properties] Tick 'save as custom tag' Edit the custom tag name if necessary. Select the proper tag type group Click [OK] Do the same with any tag imported as an Event-Misc but, first, after selecting the tag, click the [unassign] button to unassign it from Event-Misc. Then click [Properties] and proceed as above. For custom name tags such as: _AKA Assign to the proper name tag. Select _AKA on the left. Select the Name- tag on the right. Click [Assign]. The tools are there for you to deal with the import of any custom or Event-Misc tag.

Birth Order field in Family Group Sheet
Jim Byram replied to guitarman3's topic in Older Products and Versions
Birthorder in this case refers to the Birth Order flag. You need to set the flag for the children. Open the Flag Window for one of the children and edit the flag. You will have a list of the children and can set the birthorder for each. -
Question about Individual Narrative Report
Jim Byram replied to MMj's topic in Older Products and Versions
I understand what you are saying but it would be very difficult for children to be handled one way in one type of narrative report and a different way in a different type of narrative report. -
The shaded boxes have not been changed since the report was originally designed.

Question about Individual Narrative Report
Jim Byram replied to MMj's topic in Older Products and Versions
Just to note... Set the Journal report to 1 generation. On the General tab, select Custom format. On the Miscellaneous tab, unselect BMDB in a separate paragraph. Now the output of the Journal report is identical to the output of the Individual Narrative report except that the Journal report includes a list of the children (following the narrative). -
Look at the webother.txt and webplaces.txt in your TMG program folder. The format of the entries is straightforward.

Just to make sure you understand. The Picklist filter does not carry from one session to another. When you close and reopen the program, the Picklist should be unfiltered. As to the prompt to load the former Picklist filter in the Project Explorer when you start the program. just click [No].

What is the format of the language database ?
Jim Byram replied to iThomas's topic in Older Products and Versions
The strings files are a FoxPro table just like all the other TMG DBF files. You really need to talk to one of the translators who are the experts on the tools and methods used to implement a language in TMG. I wrote a message to the beta list asking if one of the translators would check this topic and get in touch with you. -
Here's an update regarding WinVista and TMG v6.12.000. http://www.whollygenes.com/files/tmg6andwinvista.pdf

The design rule has always been that double-excluded data only show on the edit screens -- Tag Entry and Edit Place. However, the MPL is a place where users evaluate their place data to get the big picture. Having places with double-excluded data hidden makes that difficult. I don't advocate displaying double-excluded data in the MPL but perhaps there should be an indicator to show that a place has double-excluded data. A marker for the row or coloring that row? Better idea. Since the data is parsed to build the list, substituting a placeholder rather than omitting the double-excluded data would add little overhead. Something like: "(--excluded)"

v. 6.10-11 performance problem
Jim Byram replied to dadempsey's topic in Older Products and Versions
Try this. With TMG closed... Go to the program folder and delete strings.cdx. Run TMG and that will trigger a strings reindex. Then check the performance issues. -
