  1. Backup problem

I have no idea of the answer since I don't run Parallels. You don't need a TMG backup to protect your data. You can always cover yourself by creating a ZIP file of the project folder and archiving the ZIP file off your computer. You also can do this for any other TMG data that you need to protect such as your exhibits. You could also simply copy your TMG user tree to an external drive.
  2. Kerry's project was missing the relationship table (...F.DBF) and could not be repaired.
  3. Kerry, I'll check the project if you send it to me. The details of how to do that are in the messages above. Jim
  4. I'm assuming that a backup without exhibits proceeds with no error. If that's the case, there is a problem with one of the exhibit files.
  5. Filter for flag

To find all people with a given flag value, the filter would simply be flag name = some value. SEX = F END You have not said what you are trying to do. Give an example. You seem to want to be able to find a flag = some value and then some other property to find people with an incorrect flag setting.
  6. HRE or other replacement

Looked. The HRE newsletter came directly from HRE. Then there was a discussion on the TMG-REFUGEES mail list. I just checked the TMG-REFUGEES archives and see the January HRE discussions.
  7. Increase text size on "main" screen?

All TMG program settings are in the app.ini and there is not a setting to control the color of the location field names/labels. You're correct that the data field text on the Tag Entry screen is controlled by the system font size and that's not something that you want to mess with.
  8. HRE or other replacement

An message on the status of HRE was posted on the TMG-REFUGEES list a few weeks ago. Basically, it's still a long way off if it ever actually happens. In a response to that message, John Cardinal said that he would develop a replacement for TMG if someone would provide a million dollars to finance the development.
  9. Backup file suddenly smaller

If you send me the two backups, I'll take a look at them. You can contact me by email by clicking on the link below... Jim Byram
  10. Backup file suddenly smaller

The backups are ZIP files so that it's easy to compare the contents of the 9Kb and 3Kb backups. You can see exactly what is contained in each backup and see what accounts for the size difference. The message board was down for a couple of days and that might be why you didn't get the new message notification.
  11. Backup file suddenly smaller

I advocate managing your exhibits outside of TMG. If you do frequent system backups (as you should be doing), your exhibits are being backed up.
  12. Backup file suddenly smaller

I had estimated that your project included 5667 people. Most projects have about 1.5x as many names as people. That probably depends on the names including Name-Married tags. Check to see the size of a project backup that includes exhibits.
  13. Backup file suddenly smaller

My estimate is that 3000 Kb should be about right for project files, accents and filters unless you had many internal exhibits. 8500 names is meaningless. The number of people in the project summary is more useful for making an estimate.
  14. questionable/unproven ancestors

You're asking about how to use TMG so if you are running TMG9, the TMG9 forum is appropriate. You could use a Father-Can or Mother-Can tag (can=candidate) and set the relationship tags non-primary. Relationship tags have a memo field so you can record your notes about the candidate person as needed. Alternatively, you could create a custom note tag names Candidate (Father) or Candidate (Mother) and record your notes about the candidate person in that tag. Set the sentence to -[M] so that it doesn't output to reports and set the GEDCOM export for the tag type to 1 EVEN 2 TYPE so that the tag will export to other programs.
  15. questionable/unproven ancestors

The only way to prevent parent connections from being output is to make the relationship tags non-primary. The extensions on relationship tags have no meaning to TMG. They are just there for you to have a way to notate how you view the relationship. For report output, Father-Oth is no different from Father-Bio. The only thing that makes a difference is whether the relationship tag is primary or non-primary. How and why did you post in the Chat forum? The Chat forum is basically a unused moribund part of the message board since chats no longer occur. If I try to open the Chat Room, I get a 404 error.
  16. Chart printing

Like Robin said, you need to make a .PDF file of the chart and have it printed by a local business (such as Staples) or an online service. This topic explains how to make the chart PDF file.
  17. Missing Exhibits

File / Maintenance / Validate File Integrity If the exhibit record is erroneous, it can only be removed by editing the exhibit table like I did for you earlier.
  18. Missing Exhibits

Art, I can delete the exhibit records. Follow my directions above. A copy of the Last VFI.log with the missing exhibits might also help. Jim
  19. Missing Exhibits

Ralph, TMG (for Windows) v6 and earlier stored the exhibits in c:\Program Files\The Master Genealogist\pics when installed on 32-bit Windows. The TMG program folder name varies depending on the TMG version. Your exhibit record would appear to be a remnant of such an earlier TMG version. Validate File Integrity (VFI) has the tools to deal with multiple image folders and exhibit trees and can relink all exhibits when relocating exhibit folders. The only requirement is that each image file has a unique name. VFI can't relink image files in an exhibit tree if images of the same name are identified by different folder names. For example... one image tree. The path of the base folder must be entered into the location table and then you need to click the [Search in subfolders] button. Jim
  20. Mother/wife duplication

The only issues are whether the children have the correct parents and whether the correct spouses share a Marriage tag. If those issues are taken care of, you should be fine. TMG doesn't require entries for missing name parts. I always enter (--?--) as a place marker for missing given names or surnames.

WordPad is fine to edit a text file as long as it's saved as a text file. Using Notepad would be better since you can't save the file as anything other than a text file. Glad that you got things fixed.
  22. Mother/wife duplication

You need to understand that in TMG, relationships only exist between children and parents. Marriage is not a relationship but is an event shared by two individuals. Deleting the relationship tags will have no effect on the Marriage tag. You should go to the child and delete the child-mother relationship tag(s) and then click on the mother slot and add the mother's ID#. (You already said that you weren't able to do this.) Like I said above, if you can't fix this, I might need to do it. These types of errors can be very persistent. You would need to send me a backup with projects files, accents and filters only or a link to download the backup. I'll need to know the ID#s of the child and the mother. If I have the project, I'll check it for other errors at the same time. (There are always other errors. <g>) You can contact me by email by clicking on the link below... Jim Byram
  23. Mother/wife duplication

Fouled up relationships can be difficult to fix and I might need to see your project to repair it. The problem is that child-parent relationships are stored in two different tables in the database and the data in those two tables need to agree. The issue can't always be repaired from the user interface. I've seen this in two different projects that I've repaired in the last month. I suspect that there are two primary child-mother relationships recorded and they might differ between the two tables. As Terry recommended... Try selecting the mother in the child's person view and hitting clicking the primary (*) button to make the mother you see non-primary. If you can separate the two mother tags, then you can delete the wrong one.
  24. Other Info Box missing Reference

OK. When I drag and drop to the desktop, what I get is a shortcut. Clicking on the shortcut gets the .PJC file downloaded to my downloads folder. I dragged the downloaded .PJC file to my desktop. Assuming that you follow those steps, from that point, you could drag the .PJC file from your desktop to your projects folder and overwrite the existing file. I compared your fixed .PJC file to one of my .PJC files. Your fixed .PJC file is complete and undamaged. btw... I gave you the information in my first post that provides what you need to know to repair your own .PJC file.
  25. Other Info Box missing Reference

Why are you clicking on the repaired PJC file that I posted for you? You can drag the file from the post to your desktop. You copy the file into your project folder overwriting the existing damaged PJC file. Then you run TMG and check out the Other Info box.
