  1. I hope it is okay to post this here. Glenn Gilbert (ggilbert1) passed away recently. He was such a kind and generous person, and always so willing to lend a hand. I'm sure that is no news to the members of this forum. I tend to hide away at home with PTSD and anxiety issues, and mostly just stay away from peopleā€¦ but Glenn was one of those rare people that just manifests kindness and a confidence that felt safe to be around. He was truly a special person. This is a tribute to him from Heritage Quest Research Library in Sumner, WA:
  2. Trip to Salt Lake City

I hope this isn't too late... Drink plenty of water before you go (and while there) to avoid altitude sickness. It's not that high up, but if you're not well hydrated you can get disoriented and muddle-headed starting on the 2nd day or so. I didn't know this is what kept happening to me in SLC until I went to Wyoming and got a really bad case of it. Remember to take breaks. You can request a tray at the window, with extra take-up reels. This way you can pull multiple rolls at one time and reduce the amount of back and forthing you'll be doing. You now have the ability to make digital copies. I heard someone recommend taking a removable harddrive to use -- plugs right into the USB port and off you go. If you forget to take breaks (one of my weaknesses), there are some snack machines on the ground floor. You won't find caffeinated sodas in Church owned buildings, as far as I've seen (that includes hotels). If you want caffeine for an extra 'boost' to maximize library time, then take some tablets with you. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
  3. Place Style localization

A minor correction -- the Temple is where they perform sacred ordinances for the living and the dead. Hence their interest in genealogy work, for 'redemption of the dead'. Where they meet on Sundays and conduct services is entirely different.
  4. TMG Gold Edition 4.01

Found this in some old files. It gives a better explanation of the situation with ctl3d.dll. . . [TMG] Invalid Program File RRWRUN.EXE Error! Applies to: - The Master Genealogist, v3.x and v4.x Problem: Unable to Preview or Generate Report Insufficient Memory or Invalid Program File RRWRUN.EXE Error! One of these error messages will occur if CTL3D.DLL is not installed properly. It is a standard file on some versions of Windows, but not on others. Solution: Download CTL3D.EXE, which is a self-extracting archive that contains CTL3D.DLL. Run CTL3D.EXE to extract CTL3D.DLL. Move CTL3D.DLL to your system directory: Operating System Location Windows 95 C:\Windows\System Windows 98 C:\Windows\System Windows ME C:\Windows\System Windows 2000 C:\WINNT\System32 Windows XP C:\WINNT\System32 [TMG] Error 1405 generating reports Applies to: - The Master Genealogist v4.x and previous Problem: Error 1405 Run/? Command Failed WREPOUT Line 172 when generating Reports to Screen or Printer. This error occurs when the CTL3D.DLL file is in the wrong directory. It is a windows\system file. Solution: Go to c:\tmgw\rrw subdirectory and double click on run.exe. If error message appears: Cannot find CTL3D.DLL, then search for this file through Windows Explorer. The file should be moved to c:\windows\system directory for 95/98 users or to c:\winnt\system32 for NT users. If it still does not work, copy the file to the c:\tmgw directory or the directory in which TMG is installed. Other keywords: Last changed: 2001-Dec-05 5:57pm bvelke, lissa
  5. TMG Gold Edition 4.01

Sorry for the confusion on the rrwexp.dll file. This was something I'd received directly from TechSupport in 2003. I'm not sure, but I think I was using Win2k at that time. When I recently re-installed 4.0d (with XP), I found that I needed it again. (of the v4 series, I've only used 4.0d) I am currently running 4.0d on XP with no problems whatsoever. I have rrwexp.dll placed in the TMGW\RRW directory, and ctl3d.dll placed in the TMGW\ directory. Years ago, it was recommended that ctl3d.dll be placed in one of the Windows subdirectories, and if that did not work, then to place it in the TMGW directory. I recommend that you give TechSupport a call -- or use the "chat with a LIVE technician" feature at the bottom of this page. I'm sure they can get you fixed up within minutes. PS -- If you are not getting the error message, you may not need rrwexp.dll. *waves to Glenn* Thanks for finding a link to the file! Valerie, from the User's Group
  6. TMG Gold Edition 4.01

In addition to ctl3d.dll, you may also need rrwexp.dll. Place it in the tmgw\rrw folder. (I'm still looking for the download -- you may need to ask techsupport for a copy)
  7. Upgrade from v3.5 to v6.nn?

I have been going through some of my old files too -- converting v3 to 5.15. There is a problem if you have unused source numbers, but this is easy to remedy before import. Just to 'feel safe', I am also renumbering people to avoid missing ID numbers.
  8. Thank you for posting the solution. My daughter is using v.4, and I will keep a copy of your post in case she encounters this problem. I like that you found a way to retain recent changes to the rest of the data, rather than just restoring from the last backup. Your taking the extra step to post this info is much appreciated.
  9. I believe you can go straight to v. 6.07 if you download the current setup file from their website. www.whollygenes.com/files/tmg6setup.exe
  10. 'Modify' locked data set

Is the manipulation of flags possible once a dataset is locked? I am preparing for a switch from v.4 to v.6, and do not have 'hands on' access just yet -- I've seen the first two videos and have attended a User's Group. What I would like is to have some way to identify which people within the locked dataset have already been examined. I tend to forget what I'm doing, so I'd like to mark them as I go.
  11. My citations disappeared

Is this problem corrected in v. 6.05? I read the list of fixes, but I don't understand it enough to know if this issue has been corrected. Thank you.
