  1. I couldn't find where this has been discussed before, so please forgive me if this is repetitive.... I would like to enter more information regarding places (like into the master place record). Information may include the place's history, a description of the locality, maps, pictures. This information would be available for view (or print) whenever a tag for an individual is brought up. Since I have a very large database, putting that info into a note field attached to an individual would be too much work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

  3. Is there a way to add the spouses birth and death dates to the children and siblings windows? Also, I've created a custom flag (Obit - Y,N) that would be nice to have displayed on the children and siblings windows.
  4. When I run the pdfinstall I get the message "acXMLParser.dll not found".
  5. I have entered obituaries in the memo field of either the death or burial tags. In addition I created a flag that indicated whether or not I have an obit for that person. Now I want to create a report for all the descendants of an individual and their spouses that would show only the people that I have obits for. The report would have their name, date of birth, death date and the memo field from either the death or burial tag. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this?

  7. I played with the mult-marr flag too, but using the list of events doesn't get me the birth and death info that I'm looking for. I wonder if the secret lies in using the name fields differently. Maybe a special name tag that is for current name But then that name would have to be available in the list of people reports. I have read some of the posts about having the surname field show the married name with the maiden name in (). I didn't really want to make that change because 1) I have way too many names in my project and 2) I don't like how that appears on other reports. It would be nice if instead of showing the last spouse that was viewed as the primary spouse we could either designate which spouse is primary or have the program default to the latest marriage.
  8. That option does give the married names, but I need the place info as well when looking for obits. Also, I am using "Is a descendant of" when creating the filter group. I've made a flag to note if I have the obit info already and I'm including that on my report as well. Thanks for the suggestion tho.
  9. I have been trying to create a list of people to use when looking for death dates and obits. I've used Name Group Tag: Last, Given name, Spouses Name Group tag: Last, given name, birth group tag; date, birth group tag; place, death group tag; date, death group tag; place. This works fine for men, single women and women who have been married once, but when the woman has had multiple marriages I don't get the last spouse. As a result I don't know what her name would have been at the time of death. Is there a better way to achieve the same results?
  10. Has anyone come up with a solution to the error "Memo file ... is missing or is invalid"? I get the error after the restore is complete and it is rebuilding the indexes. I have reindexed, optimized and validated file integrity on V6 before backing it up. I am beginning to get very frustrated with this version.
  11. I have installed V7 from CD without problem. However when I restore my V6 backup (from a USB drive) in V7 I get the following error: DynaZip UnZip Error - No files to test, extract, etc (No items match filespec). This is followed by the following error - Errors occurred during restore-Input file read failure. This error occurs when a file read operation is performed on a zip file that is locked or restricted by another process. If I backup to my C drive in Ver 6 I get the following message on the backup - Input file read failure-This error occurs when a file read operation is performed on a ZIP file that is locked or restricted by another process. I have reset by preferences to their defaults and run a Validate File Integrity, reindexed and optimized before doing the backup.
  12. placemap.upd error

    I tried to run the program as administrator. I got the same message, replied to it, but it couldn't find my project. So I removed the check in the run as admin checkbox, I didn't get the placemap message and it opened my project correctly. I'm running the program from program files and my project is in my Users directory. I did use the work around for the window not refreshing properly and it works great! I'm going to download the WinHelp update. So far I haven't had any other issues running TMG under Vista.

When opening TMG I get the following message: Ready to Process Update - An automated update file (placemap.upd) was found.It is designed to apply changes to the way that the Place Mapping feature works. ... Are you sure that you want to process this update file? If you answer No then the update file will be renamed to placemap.xxx and will not be applied. I have tried answering yes and I have tried answering no to this message but it continues to appear each time I open TMG. I did a search on my computer for placemap.* and cannot find the file. I am runing ver 6.12 on Windows Vista. Thanks.
  14. I am running TMG v.6.11.000 and I am experiencing an ongoing problem. Occasionally individuals will have their names displayed on the Details screen or on the picklist with someone else's name appended to them. This could be in place of either the first or the last name. However, when I select the name, the tag entry screen shows the name correctly. The only way I have been able to work around this problem is by adding a new person and deleting the one with the incorrect displayed name. Is there a fix for this?
