  1. DNA Log - Ancestry missing

I am using TMG 7.03. This morning I opened the TMG DNA Log for the very first time in order to add a DNA fingerprint using the DNA Ancestry Y-DNA 46 Marker Test template. According to the Help file, the program contains 2 DNA Ancestry templates but neither of them was showing in the "Add a DNA Fingerprint" screen. Nor was DNA Ancestry included in the drop down list of Laboratories. I searched these forums for "DNA" and got no hits. However, a Google site search turned up Jim Byram's post from November 2007 in the TMGv6 forum with a link to download the file DNA Ancestry.dna. When I placed the file in my TMG 7 program folder I got a message that the file (same date and size) already existed but I went ahead and replaced it anyway. On reopening TMG there was still no sign of the DNA Ancestry templates. I then realised that the file probably needed to go into the Application Data folder for TMG 7 - a theory confirmed by reading the Data File Storage section of the Help file. Although I am the only user of this computer, Windows has managed to give me three Application Data folders (All Users, User and Default User). Needless to say, I had to try all three before finding the correct one. Success at last and I am now able to access the DNA Ancestry templates. I am a reasonably savvy TMG user and I found the above process wearisome, frustrating and time consuming (although, admittedly, my poor health means my frustration levels are low ). I don't think a newbie would stand any chance of working it out. Surely there has to be an easier way, such as an automatic patch included with a TMG update? Also, could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong when I try to search these forums? I never get any hits when I use the built in search engine but Google site search works. Many thanks. Thanks Jim.
  3. Bristol Area Users Group

The first meeting of the new Bristol area Users' Group will take place next Wednesday evening, 9 May, starting at 7.30 pm. The venue is 10 Horse Street, Chipping Sodbury, BS37 6DB. Robin Lamacraft from Australia will be speaking at the meeting. He is an expert on Visual Chartform and wrote the chapters on the subject in "Getting the Most out of The Master Genealogist". Robin will be very interested in users' views on the use of TMG in a UK context. The meeting is not restricted to people who live in the Bristol area - if you want to come from further afield you will be most welcome. Please contact me offlist to get travel and parking directions.

  5. The old TMG-UK list use-tmg-uk@british-genealogy.com is no longer operational. I have therefore set up a new TMG-UK list with Rootsweb. The list is for UK users of The Master Genealogist software and for users elsewhere with UK research interests. The focus will be on UK aspects of the program and issues arising from using it for UK research. It is intended to complement the main TMG list, not compete with it. Details can be found at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Software/TMG-UK.html with a link to subscribe. Alternatively, to subscribe to receive individual messages, send an email to TMG-UK-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body. To receive the digest version, do the same thing with TMG-UK-D-request@rootsweb.com. Caroline Gurney
  6. Post has not appeared on a forum

I posted to the User Groups sub-forum on 1 April but my post has still not appeared there. I realise the forum is moderated but does it really take this long for posts to be accepted? My post is about the first meeting of a new User Group on 9 May and I am anxious for it to appear as soon as possible.
  7. Post has not appeared on a forum

    Thanks, Bob.
  8. Problem with Souce Type not changing

Susanna, If you have the UK version of TMG then my source types are included in the program - there is no need to add them. In fact, the UK version includes some extra source types which are not available in the download from Lee's TMG tips website. As discussed on the cruise, Lee and I both need to amend our websites to make this clear. Caroline
  9. Local time for UK wrong

I've only just noticed that the local time for UK users of the forum is wrong. It is one hour fast. Looks like the forum time didn't change when our clocks went back in October, so it is still showing British Summer Time (GMT + 1) whereas we are now on GMT.
  10. Local time for UK wrong

Thanks Terry. Now I'm only one hour past my bedtime
