=== FREE SHIPPING for three days! ======================

Some of the Wholly Genes staff, an all-star line-up of speakers, and many other family researchers will be on their way to the Caribbean in a few days for the week-long 2008 Genealogy Conference and Cruise. As a result, purchases from the Wholly Genes store (http://www.WhollyGenes.com) may experience short delays in shipment due to the limited staff back home.

In consideration of this inconvenience, out web store is offering FREE SHIPPING to the U.S. and Canada until this Sunday, Oct 26th. (A flat rate of $4.00 applies to overseas orders).

That's just three days so don't miss this chance to save a bundle!

Remember that www.WhollyGenes.com is NOT just your source for TMG software, companion programs, and training videos. We also carry a variety of classic books on genealogy methodology (all at least 15% off suggested retail price) and thousands of data CDs that will help with your research. The data CDs include digitized versions of rare genealogy books, census records, parish records, and other valuable research tools from the United States, England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Canada, Australia, and other countries.

Please tell your research friends where they can find this wide variety of genealogy products -- now with free shipping!

This offer expires Sunday, 26 October 2008.

=== Message Manager fixed ============================

The Message Manager is a feature in TMG (v6.09 or later) which allows users to send messages or files to Wholly Genes, Inc. or vice versa. It has been used in the past by Wholly Genes to send user-specific serial numbers/coupons or to communicate critical bug alerts. But some users have reported that the Message Manager's default behavior to check for messages would cause unreasonable delays when TMG was started.

Earlier this month, revisions were made to the web server which has fixed this problem. If you've modified the default so that it no longer checks for messages automatically, then we encourage you to turn it back on now (File > Preferences > Program Options > Startup and Exit).

Every user of an unlocked copy of TMG Gold Edition (v6.09 or later) who accesses the Message Manager should now get a coupon for the "Give a Gift of TMG for HALF OFF" offer (see below). If you don't see it, click on "Display previous messages."

Users who have never received them before should also receive a coupon for "50% off your first wall chart" and one for "20% off your next purchase of data CDs!" Those coupons are offered once to each user of TMG Gold (again, v6.09 or later) after unlocking the program and they have an expiration date. The problem with the Message Manager caused those coupons to stop being issued too. Note that if you do not receive these additional coupons today, then it is because you already received them. (If you don't see them under previous messages, then it is because they expired.)

=== Give the Gift of TMG for HALF PRICE ===================

For a limited time, registered users of TMG Gold v6.09 or later can now purchase additional copies of the program for friends and family for HALF OFF the regular retail price! At just $39.97, the price of TMG Gold Edition on CD-ROM has never been lower. Copies of the program that are purchased now will also get a FREE upgrade to TMG v8 when it is released.

To take advantage of this offer, simply run TMG and access the "Message Manager" from the Help menu. You'll find a message there with your private coupon code and simple instructions to use it. (Click on the "Display previous messages" box to see messages that have been sent to you previously).

Here's your chance to give TMG to your friends and relatives at a greatly-discounted price! Your private coupon code can only be used _once_ (a single invoice for up to 10 copies of TMG Gold) and this offer expires 31 Dec 2008. An internet connection is required to receive your coupon.

Note: Combine this offer with the FREE SHIPPING until October 26th (see above) to save even more!

=== Support Forum Changes ============================

At the suggestion of some users, we have taken some steps to address the increasing prevalence of spammers and bots on the Wholly Genes support forum (http://www.WhollyGenes.com/forums.htm'>http://www.WhollyGenes.com/forums.htm). Effective immediately, all registered forum members are classified as "NewMembers" which subjects their first message to moderation. That is, each member's first message will be invisible to the public until released by a moderator. If, upon seeing that message, a moderator concludes that you are not a spammer, then your message will be released without censorship. At the same time, you will be upgraded to a full "Member" and may post thereafter without being subject to moderation.

The volunteer moderators have been busy upgrading frequent and recent contributors to full "Member" status so those users will not be affected by this change.

We appreciate your understanding as we implement these changes in order to make the Wholly Genes support forum a positive place for learning and sharing ideas.

=== GNIS Update ====================================

When you enter a place in TMG's Tag Entry screen, you can then click on a button in the top-right corner of the window which will "Look up this place on the web." Depending on the place, TMG will let you choose from a list of appropriate gazetteer sites on the web which will give you information about the place, frequently including its location (Lat/Long), population, name variants, and other useful information.

One of the most popular sites that is used by this feature is the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), a place database that was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Board on Geographic Names. However, changes to the GNIS web site have broken the feature as accessed by TMG v7.03.

Now you can download a little patch file that will fix TMG's interface with the GNIS site. Just download and unzip this file into the TMG program folder (i.e., the location of TMG7.EXE):

=== New Data CDs from the U.S. =========================

The following new searchable data CDs are now available from WhollyGenes.com:

John Fiske, THE DUTCH AND QUAKER COLONIES IN AMERICA, (1900) 2008.

$24.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...WS&p=US0610

Fiske devotes this volume of his series on colonial American history first to New Amsterdam and the early history of New York and New Jersey, then to the settlement of Pennsylvania and of the territory that became Delaware. He then carries the history of these colonies down to the Revolutionary era. The author begins with a discussion of the Netherlands prior to the period of North American colonization, including relations with England. He then relates the story of the period of discovery, followed by the settlements at Albany and Manhattan. He covers the Dutch penetration of the Delaware and the beginnings of the settlements in northern New Jersey, and the wars with England which led to the establishment of New York. At this point Fiske switches his attention to the colonizing activities of William Penn and the Quaker migrations to Pennsylvania and to southern New Jersey (more...)

John Fiske, THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA, WITH SOME ACCOUNT OF ANCIENT AMERICA AND THE SPANISH CONQUEST, (1892) 2008.

$29.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...WS&p=US0611

These two volumes constitute the opening section of Fiske's massive history of colonial North America. Here he describes the Native American peoples prior to the European voyages of discovery, then relates the voyages of discovery themselves, to which he adds material on the Spanish conquests. The first chapter provides an overview of the Native American societies as they existed prior to the arrival of Columbus. The remainder of the first volume is devoted to the many voyages, some real and some mythical, recorded prior to the voyages of Columbus, and then to the work of Columbus himself. The second volume begins with accounts of the many voyages of discovery to North America of the sixteenth century (more...)

THE PENNSYLVANIA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY, v6-10, (1882-1886) 2008.

$27.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...&p=US0612-B

The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, one of the earliest quarterly serial publications of this type, was first published by the Pennsylvania Historical Society in 1877. The second five volumes are reproduced here with fully-searchable text. (see US0612-A for volumes I-V).

In these volumes (VI through X), The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography continues with articles of both genealogical and historical significance, including:

- An Index to the Obituary Notices published in the "Pennsylvania Gazette," from 1728-1791.

- An Englishman's Opinion of the Bostonians in 1774

- The First Tax List for Philadelphia County, A.D. 1693. With an Introductory Note.
