usascottwright 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2009 MS Office 2007 does not have the .ged file extension so it can save as a correct file. I am saving the file as a plain text file: file.ged but in MS2007 it is saving the file as file.ged.txt MS office 1997 saved it correctly. I had 1997 on my lap top and converted the file that way, but now my laptop is down. Any ideas? any utilities that I could use to save a file into a correct format? Virginia Blakelock 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2009 Use Notepad. Save As / Text Documents / ANSI. Enter the extension .ged instead of .txt. Virginia
Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) If you did save the file as a true ANSI format text file, then there is no harm to simply use Windows to rename the file and change the filename extension to be ".ged" by removing the trailing ".txt" Edited May 25, 2009 by Michael Hannah
