Rob Roy 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2010 I have probably set something wrong, but darned if I can find it. With some of my early English ancestors, I use the PreSurname field to enter "de". This displays with the full name but is not used in sorting. It has been working as long as I can remember. Suddenly, the PreSurnname field is not displaying. Any suggestions? Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2010 You are using a custom name style for all of the names that use the Presurname field?
Michael Dietz 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2010 Rob: I have a custom name style for the European names with the 'de', 'fitz', 'le', 'ap', etc., presurnames. In the primary name I put the given name in the given name and combine the presurname with the surname in the surname. This allows me to search either by the "presurname surname" or just the surname. Example: Primary name: Given Name is "Roger" Surname is "de Basset" and sorts with all the other "de" names Medieval name: Given Name is "Roger" Presurname is "de" Surname is "Basset" and sorts with all the other "Basset" names The other thing to make sure is the surname sort template in the custom name style. There you can include the presurname field which is not in the surname sort template for the US style. My template starts with: [sortHouse], [sortGiven] [PreSurname], ... where SortHouse is what I call the surname in this custom name style. It works very well for me.
