Sentence Sequencing

Recommended Posts

I have another rather basic question (sorry). But what is it that determines the sequence of tag related sentences in a narrative report. Say, for example that I want to ensure Census information is always shown last. thanks Roger

Tags appear in Narrative reports in the order of their Sort Dates. By default, when a Date is entered in a tag, the same date is entered as Sort Date. When two tags have the same Sort Date there is no way to predict which will appear first. Tags without Sort Dates appear first, in no predictable order.

You must be in Advanced data entry mode to see the Sort Dates. To change to Advanced mode go to Preferences > Program Options > Data Entry.

The only exception to the use of Sort Dates is in the Journal Report, where there is an option (turned on by default) to place birth, marriage, divorce, death and burial tags in the first paragraph. If that option is used those tags will appear in the first paragraph, in that order, regardless of their sort dates.

If you use the Journal report you can use that option to place those tags first and all others in the next paragraph. If you are using other types of narratives, or want further control, you need to assign Sort Dates to those tags you want to relocate to force them into your desired position. Sort Dates never print, and do not effect the actual Date of the event if you have entered one.
