Adding Parents

How do I connect an existing person in the database as a father to another in the database? The "Add a New person" dialog box does not allow parental or child selection of someone already in the database.

1. Have the child as the person showing in the Details window

2. double Click on "Father" which is near the top of the Details window on the left

3. A "Tag Entry" screen will come up. Either enter the father's ID number in the "Parent" field or else search for him using the binocluars.

Neil's suggestion will work fine from the child's Details. The following is the same but in reverse.

1. Have the prospective Father showing in the Details window
   
2. Add a New Tag (either from the Add menu or press F4) and select the appropriate child tag, e.g. Son-Bio, Dau-Bio, etc.
   
3. A "Tag Entry" screen will come up. Either enter the Child's ID number in the "Child" field or else search for them using the binoculars
   

Since both Father and Child are already in the database you do not want to "add" a person. You simply want to complete an appropriate Relationship tag to link these two people. Either of these two methods will open the appropriate tag so you can enter the "other" ID to link them with the relationship parent/child.
