Chris Macleod 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2011 Is there any harm or pitfalls if I change the source category from "Custom" to "as drawn from "Evidence" (E.S.Mills)" in an existing project?
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2011 Absolutely! Don't do it! You will destroy any custom Source Types you have created, and will destroy any customizations you have made to the existing Source Types. Further, you will be unable to create custom Source Types after you make the change. In a word, if you have created custom Source Types, or have modified any of the standard ones your sources will become a mess. The above assumes your project started with the default "Mills" Source Types, even though it's set to the Custom Category. If your project started with either the UK or Lackey source types, the results will be worse. All your existing Source Types will be destroyed and all your Sources will be converted to "equivalent" Mills Source Types, according to a table. You will find that they are not very equivalent at all. Most likely your sources will produce pretty much garbage footnotes. What are you trying to achieve? There is probably a way to get your desired result with a lot less trouble.
