Forum address change?

Recommended Posts

I have the forum in my favourites as http://www.whollygenes.com/forums but that now says "You are not authorised to view this page etc etc" :(

Has it changed to http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201 or has my favourites tricked me..

If it has changed, then I didnt know it was going too and although it wasnt hard to find it anyway, I was wondering if other users may be having trouble trying to find it...

Same happened to me yesterday. I couldn't access the forum from my favourites. At first I thought the forum was down but eventually found the new url (forums201). I had no idea it was going to change either :o

<_<

Seems a bit strange to change a forum url with out letting people know or redirecting them from the changed address.....

The published address of the forum and the one accessed from our main page is http://www.whollygenes.com/forums.htm which works. I don't know how people got forums/ (the folder, not the file) saved as a bookmark since, to my knowledge, we've never published such an address.

It seems that we did have forwarding on that folder at one point and it changed somehow. I don't know how to forward an entire folder but I'm researching it - and when I find out, it will probably explain how we managed to break it ;) .

Letting them know how  ?

This happened to me this morning, too. Same address:

http://www.whollygenes.com/forums/

I got the link by dragging it to my "Links" section of IE. I just changed it to forums201 to see if it works, it does.

http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/

However, I am going to use the link you just gave, instead...

That link does seem to work now, so maybe internet explorer has tricked us all, but if its happened to 4 people then its a big coincidence....

And if it had have changed then a newsletter or other mass email could have let people know... ;)

Actually, it happened in both IE and Firefox, but the link in Firefox was imported from IE.

Looks like we must have bookmarked the site the same day...

forums/ works again now. We never did suggest that people use that link but it was broken for less than two days.

And if it had have changed then a newsletter or other mass email could have let people know... ;)

Oh, sure  . Could I forward the hate mail to you?

(You have no idea how many "spam" complaints we get for sending roughly one newsletter a month to people who asked for it.)

You'd better believe it! My wife sends out meeting notes for a local group to about 100 members who have asked for it. We recently got a warning from our ISP to stop sending SPAM!

Turns out one of the members had used her work e-mail address. She left that employer without giving us a new e-mail address, and apparently someone there clicked on the "this is SPAM" button rather than reply to us and ask to be removed. Apparently AOL doesn't read the supposedly offensive message, but simply reports it to the sender's ISP. Our ISP threatened to cut off our e-mail, saying they can't afford be "blacklisted" by AOL, even though they read the message and recognized it had been requested. They advise not allowing anyone with an AOL address to sign up on any mailing list. Is that crazy or what?

It should be noted that even though we had to go through a couple extra steps to get to it, the FORUM worked to let people know what the problem was ... :exhappy:

No mass mailing was necessary!
