janice 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2012 Some time ago I had the 12 marker mitochondrial test done ny the Sorenson Foundation. I would like to put in them in TMG but it is not one of the companies listed. So how do I put these results into TMG 8? Janice Cornwell Down Under
ggilbert1 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) I don't think there is a 12 marker mitochondrial test . Mitochondrial testing is run on hypervariable regions 1, 2, & 3 (HVR1, HVR2, & HVR3). The test reports the differences from the Cambridge Reference Sequence. You enter the marker and difference in the mtDNA table for each of the HV Regions. Activate the DNA Log click the Add button, in the drop down list for All Labortories choose mitochondrial dna (mtdna) the only choice will be mtDNA, click OK Fill in the table from your SMGF results You can determine which region your differences fall into from the Sorenson Mitochondrial DNA help section http://www.smgf.org/.../locations.jspx Edited January 18, 2012 by ggilbert1

I did get as far as the table and then came to "now what.'? I have forgotten all I understood when I had the test done a long time ago. I will study further. At least you have confirmed I was on the right track. Janice Cornwell Down Under

If you start with Why Molecular Genealogy? http://www.smgf.org/..._genealogy.jspx on the SMGF site I think you'll get a good overview of DNA testing.
