Alexander Payne 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2012 I am using source categories by E S Mills, are there more Source Types that can be imported, as I cannot create others. There are a number of source categories that Mills have on Quick Sheets "Citing Online Historical Resources" & "Citing Ancestry.com Databases & Images." As I find the ones that are included with TMG v8 are not adequate for online citing.

Alexander Payne 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 I need more source type templates to be added in order to create new sources without losing ES Mills style
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 As you have found, using the Mills Source Category, you can edit the templates, but you cannot add new Source Types. In order to do that you need to switch to the Custom Source Category. You can do that without loss of your current Source Types, but you must do it carefully, using the following steps. 1. Make sure you have a current backup of your project. It is quite possible to do this wrong and destroy data. 2. In Preferences > Current Project Options > Other, change the Source Categories to Custom. This will change all your current Source Types to the default Mills Source Types. If you have made any customizations to any of the templates, those changes will be gone. You can restore those customizations with the next step. 3. Immediately after changing the Source Category in Preferences, before making any new changes to Source Types, you must "Initialize" your Source Types back to your previous state. To do this, go to the Source Types screen (Tools > Source Types) and click the Initialize button. When asked, choose Mills. After you do this, do not Initialize again. Now check over your Source Types carefully and be sure they are as you expect before making any other changes.

dm7ich 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2013 Where can I find source types other than the default ones included in TMGv8. Some I am thinking of would be "WWI Draft Registration Card", "WWII Draft Registration Card" and "Funeral Card". Are these either available, or at least described somewhere, so that I could create them in TMGv8?
Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2013 The default ones are the only ones provided by WhollyGenes. All others can be considered "custom" source types, created by some of us users. You will find examples of those both in postings on forums at this site, and in posts on the user-group e-mail ListServ. Search for "Source Types" in the forums on this site, and/or search the e-mails here. If you have need of a specific source type, asking other users on the ListServ if anyone has created one is often the best source. Hope this gives you ideas,
