brasso 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2012 I am considering moving from Windows to one of the Linux variants - but definitely don't like the idea of leaving TMG behind. Using the Wine emulator on Linux apparently allows many Windows programs to run quite well - does anyone have any experience of running TMG8 that way? Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2012 A number of users have reported successfully using TMG under a Windows emulator. I recommend reviewing the execellent pinned topic by Glenn Gilbert titled "Using TMG 7 on a Mac" posted here for many lessons learned concerning emulators, especially about keeping all files, etc. for TMG within the Windows domain and not crossing domains. There have also been comments about Wine verus Parallels and other such Windows eumlators. I suggest you search for these product names both here on this forum and on the TMG-L e-mail List searchable here for other posts on this topic.
Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2012 Also check out Crossover for a more refined iteration of Wine.

Just to be clear, my article does NOT cover running TMG in Windows EMULATORS. Parallels, VMWare Fusion, and VirtualBox allow the creation of a Virtual Machine in which one actually installs Windows or another operating system. A couple of years ago I tested Crossover and found there were issues that made TMG unusable, perhaps two years on Codeweavers has addressed them. http://www.whollygen...indpost&p=48095 Edited November 19, 2012 by ggilbert1
benbrink 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2012 I was able to run TMG v7 under Ubuntu 11 under WINE (don't remember the version). However, I have not yet been able to make TMG v8 load under Ubuntu 12.10. I'm probably missing a dll or something--will let you know if I figure it out in the next few days. sam.m 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 I tried TMG v8 under wine back on Dec 2011 and reported the issue. Bug:29429 - The Master Genealogist: Can't install because Installer buttons do not work. Have not tried it since October 2012, reading the bug it looks like other people/developers(?) have confirmed the issue but no work has been done on it. If you work out which version of wine you used I suggest updating the bug report or reply back here and I will update it. WineHQ AppDb Entry for TMG v8 For now I am staying with VirtualBox.
