RogerUK 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2012 I'm in the UK and I have added separate Tag Types for the different Census years (1851 - 1911). I would also like to add the exact date to each Census Tag (eg 2 April 1911) so that it shows in the date field on the individual detail view and I don't have to enter it each time I use it. How can I do this? Another question while I'm here if I may. I would also like the appropriate Census Tags to appear by default for every individual, appropriate to their lifespan. For example Joe Soap b1845 d 1905 would have Census 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 all automatically shown in preparation for my input. Can anyone help? thanks Roger
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2012 Hi, Roger, I'm sorry to report that you can't do either of these. There is no way to pre-define the contents of the date field in a Tag Type. You can include the date pre-defined in the Sentence as text, but that won't do what you have in mind. Also, there is no way to have specific Tags automatically added to all people, let alone have which Tags that would be based on lifespan. You can add Tags to selected people with John Cardinal's TMG Utility, but you have to prepare a list of people for whom they are to be added in a specific format. While TMG List of People report can aid in preparation of those lists, and think you will find it more work than it's worth. A better approach may be to add buttons to your custom Toolbar for each census year, so each Tag can be added with a single mouse click (you would still have to enter all the data in the Tag Entry screens). RogerUK 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2012 Thanks Terry for a quick response. So I am simply asking too much of TMG this time. I will experiment witht he toolbar idea though. It may just make life a little easier. thanks again. Roger

" This approach seems promising Terry. There are a number of buttons on both the standard and layout toolbars that are of no value to me. Can I remove any of them? Looks like no. Can you give me any quick directions on how to add a selected set of tags to a custom toolbar. I know I should read it all up but you might save me a lot of time. thanks again Roger
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2012 Roger, No, you can't modify the standard toolbars. But you can turn off those with with buttons you use and add the buttons you want to a custom toolbar instead. Adding buttons is described and illustrated in my Toolbars Article. Adding buttons for Tags isn't specifically mentioned, but it's the same as those that are. You chose "Add a tag of a specific type."
Virginia Blakelock 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2012 Roger - In my Screencast library there is a screenshot (Add Specific Tag) showing each step: http://www.screencas...nia/folders/TMG At the top of the screen, click on Full Size to see the screenshot better. You can download a copy by clicking on the Details button at the bottom of the screen and clicking on Download. Also in that library are examples of a custom toolbar and a video (red icon) stepping through all the buttons on my toolbar. I have a series of small blue boxes for the census years; there are tooltips on each box so I know which is which. By the way, the button I use the most is 'Run last Report' - very convenient when tweaking the report (including chart) configurations.' Virginia
Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2012 I would also like the appropriate Census Tags to appear by default for every individual, appropriate to their lifespan ... all automatically shown in preparation for my input. As others have noted, not automatically. However, I find it easy to modify the Add Person template, adding and subtracting Tag Types as needed. When I am adding a group of people due to similar source information, I make a point to select the Tag Types, and detail columns, appropriate for that input session. Hope this gives you ideas,
