National Archives of Finland has published close to 20 M pages of documents in web already.

In order to service researchers better and especially for better documentation, web-links for all documents will be fixed in future. There will be an universal linking method is use. Purpose is to quarantee address (document ID) which will stay correct in forever.

Links will be in format ie. example urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi-fe201208136290

Today this URN will generate web address http://digi.narc.fi/digi/view.ka?kuid=13386166

ie. if URN is entered to web address of a browser http-address is generated automatically.

Is there a way to format URN in memo field so it would work as WEB-formater does?

[WEB:]urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi-fe201208136290[:WEB] does not work

Certainly, Peter, just make the term inside the [WEB:][:WEB to be a complete web address. Add "http://www." to the front as::

[WEB:]http://www.urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi-fe201208136290[:WEB]

That works perfectly fine for me.

Thank You once again Michael! Appreciated

Got it to work as well from TMG memo. Did not test from website or Second Site yet but assumingly will work.

Basically this means that I cant decide with [WEB:] tags what to transmit to web browser. TMG is allowing only certain format to pass forward.

There might be a need to check this limitation. There is lots of address shorteners etc available. Those do not follow http://-format.

This way I get it to work, but each address has to be hand edited. Archives plans to build "web link generator" in every page. This will give full source data automatically including short URN-link.

The [WEB] codes require a "complete" URL, since the text is simply handed to your default web browser to open that full URL It is really the browser that needs the full URL.
