Joe Cummings 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2013 The draft cards contain items like occupation, living location, etc. The draft card info contains only a "registration" date. It appears this date is a fixed one for the card type. How does one handle correlating the date to the accuracy of the information? For example, if the registration date is 5June1917, does that mean the occupation listed is valid as of that date? Could their be a long time delay between the date of the entry and the registration date? If permitted, one other question. What address do you put in the place entry: living at or the board address? Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2013 This data is self registered, usually as of that date. I do not enter this as a tag, but as a source cited in other tags. So I might have an Address tag for that person with their living at address citing this source. Or an Occupation tag citing this source. etc.
Joe Cummings 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2013 Thanks for the reply, Michael. Sorry for late response.....got busy on another project. Yes, I would use the "regular" tags like occupation with the card as the source. What I was questioning is the accuracy of the "registration date" to the data on the card. It appears that for a given WW 1 draft card, the registration date is identical for all cards of that type (A, B or C). I guess it is correct to say any data on the card is valid as of the registration date and that is the date to be used for the tag with no qualifications. Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2013 Joe, Like any other data, there is no way to know when the information was actually valid, if it is at all. Just because someone says he was a bricklayer doesn't mean he hadn't been out of work for a year and was doing odd jobs to make ends meet. I avoid that question, and report the facts, by entering draft registrations in a custom "Draft Register" tag with two roles and the following Sentences: WWI: [P] registered for the draft for World War I WWII: [P] registered for the draft for World War II In the Memo I enter the occupation (for WWI only - it is not included for WWII) and name and address of the employer. The Date is the date on the card. The place is the residence address.
