Verticle line Red in Print mode

Recommended Posts

This is a new problem. My descendants chart looks ok in word but when I send to print, the vertical lines are red and horizontal in black.

I am preparing to change to V8. I have installed a new printer but it was ok yesterday and it only holds a mono toner anyway. Checked printer settings and ok. Also did a few random charts and charts from old reports and same thing happening..

Any ideas please?

This is a printer problem. Do a test pattern that shows the alignment of the heads (for all head jets). These usually will show that some jets are not firing oar are not aligned. Believe or not on some colour printers even though they have black ink. Some operations create black by firing magenta, yellow and cyan as well. I suspect that some black jets are not firing and the same position has at least one colour that is not also firing.

Hello Robin

Thank you for your reply.

No I have a lazer printer. I didn't find anything in my printer settings relating to colour but just in case I changed anything I put it back to default. It is still the same. Very strange, especially since old files, before this printer, are the same. That is why I thought it might be a TMGW setting. I had been playing around with colour trying to change the colours of the family view when I had updated the family. I looked in content in the help and played around with colours but when I changed them they were background colours. (I used to know how to do this but a long time since I have done more than just add a date here and there). Later I I found colour options in "preferences" when I had advice on where to put my name and address data. I thought I should be able to fix it there. But they seem to be background colours as well. They still come out black but a bit thin and you can see the difference. I can't find out how to do a test. I did it when installing. I will have to have another look. I used to know how to do this in my old printer.

regards

Rosanna

Rosanna,

I suggest another tactic. Create document in Word 2010, Use some drawing objects to create vertical and horizontal lines of black and some other co9lour. Now print that document. If that works then the issue must be with TMGW and not your printer. How did you save the chart (and what format -JPG, BMP, etc did you save it as) to insert it into Word?

Can you view that saved chart file in an image viewer without strange effects?

Regards,

RobinL

Rosanna -

Is this the Descendant Indented Chart report or a box chart? Are the vertical and horizontal lines aligned properly?

When you say 'send to print', do you mean look at it in Print Preview in TMG - and this is where you see the red lines, or are the lines actually printing red from TMG although your printer is not a color printer - only black (mono toner). If it is just in Print Preview, you can probably ignore it, but you can try Googling for your printer name and 'red lines' and see if anything turns up. It might have something to do with the font TMG uses for the lines in that report.

Re the color of the people names in TMG. You may have used an Accent to do this - perhaps with a Flag. Go to Accents (Ctrl-A) and click on the Load button to see if you have any Accents listed.

Hello Virginia

It is a descendant chart. Yes all lines aligned ok,. Yes printer is mono and I have my new one selected.

I just posted to Robin that all my charts are selected in " report destination" to "save word for windows 7". I open them while I am still in reports and generally print or save to desktop to send to someone.

No when the word document comes up in TMG it is ok. The l lines are not coloured. I then go to print in word and yes it is in the print review on my computer outside of TMG that I see the red lines. However I just tried sending the report in TMG "report destination" to "print review" as an option and it was ok. I just prefer to do it the other way. So must be the printer.

I tried Googling but the only problems relate to coloured printers using ink jet . I have to get support for something else but they are hard to reach and I have already sent one message that went unanswered so I will send another support question and include this. I guess if it is opening ok in word then it is not tmg but my printer. By the way getting the V8 trial. I will see if it happens in this version I was unable to print images until I found it was set at my old printer which I just cant get rid of files unless I go into registry. But that printer is no longer installed. So it could have been this type of problem.

Re accents. yes I will try and resolve this before I change over thanks.

Thanks for your help.
