Paul Lawrence 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2014 Can someone tell me if the TMG-L list is still active? I have received nothing for the past four days nor have I received any notice that I have been unsubscribed. Additionally, I cannot access the archives...times out everytime... arrow347 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) There was a recent (2-3 days ago) article in local newspaper (Reno) that Ancestry (so too, apparently, RootsWeb) has been hacked, apparently a denial of service. Unfortunately no mention on their website. Wait, I tried ancestry.com and it was working. So I called them and a recorded message says they are working to recover from a denial of service attack. Helmut Leininger 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2014 Paul, if you try to access rootsweb.com (the server hosting the list) you get the following: Check back soon. We're sorry, but the page or feature is temporarily unavailable. Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2014 I first ran into this with Ancestry.com on the 16th and am not sure when it started. Ancestry is a long way from being back up and fully functional. Try using Family Tree Maker 2014 and, for all purposes, you can't. It shows how tightly FTM is tied into Ancestry being online and working. I suspect that RootsWeb is towards the end of the list of sites to get running again.

Michael Dietz 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2014 I just tried to access the TMG-L archives, 6/26/14, 9:31 am MDT, and had no problem. The last posting was from June 17. I have not tried to access the FreePages, WorldConnect Project, or Ancestry.com itself. Mike
Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2014 Yes, Mike, but have you tried to post to TMG-L? I don't think RootsWeb is working enough yet to process posts. But maybe it will by the time I post this.
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2014 I, too, suspect that emails are not yet being processed. A couple of days ago I submitted a "subscribe" request because of some issue I had with my own email two weeks ago that I thought might have resulted in my being un-subscribed, and yesterday I received a warning that my email request has not been delivered. Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2014 I have also issued a "subscribe" with no results, but have not (yet) had the mail bounce.
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2014 I've received two messages from TMG-L this afternoon, so it seems some service is being restored. But my reply to one of them sent three hours ago has yet to show up or appear in the archives.
Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2016 The TMG-L list on Rootsweb seems to again be having problems. You may have noticed that there have been no posts to TMG-L for two weeks. It seems it is now not accepting posts from any users, including myself and the list administrator. Rootsweb is still having problems with several of the email lists it moved to its new servers. Some lists work, some lists only partially work, and some don't work at all. Some users (such as myself) have been unable to post to the TMG-L list for over a month since they made their hardware change.Constance Chappell Horne, TMG-L List Administrator, agreed to have me post the latest reply she got today, October 11, 2016, from Rootsweb about this issue. Dear Constance,We understand that you have encountered problems with the Mailing Lists on Rootsweb. We can appreciate that this is an inconvenience which must be interrupting your work. We are happy to provide you with an update regarding these issues. We are currently in the process of upgrading our technical infrastructure. Some processes are on hold until this upgrade is complete. This currently includes some Mailing List processes and features including posting to some lists. Once the work is finished everything should be working as normal again. Unfortunately, we do not have a timeframe as to when this work may be completed. We apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your continued patience. If there is anything else with which we might assist you, please let us know.KevinRootsWeb Support Team I certainly agree it is very "unfortunate" they do not have a time frame when TMG-L will again be available and that corrective actions are currently "on hold". Until this is fixed, TMG-L users may wish to post their issues here.
